This site, The Blues Maker, as described by Nik Peachey, lets the user create his/her own blues tune, and as Nik points out, is an excellent way to improve listening skills, vocabulary, and pronunciation. The 10 steps are an excellent project to help students begin to learn more about this type of American (and now international) music.

You can also insert instructions and divide your test into multiple sections. What does dipity do? It is a timeline maker, but you can use it to make a personal timeline of materials you create at other sites, such as Facebook, Slideshare, etc. This might be a good tool for haing students create a visual electronic portfolio. I would think you could, for instance, add an embedded Google doc or presentation, inter alia. Let the group know if you have tried this with students.

Poetry Forge has online (Flash) tools for generating instant poetry, as well as a downloadable version of the tools to use on the desktop. It's really fun to add some words to a list and then have the poetry-maker pop up your new poem. Students can learn a lot about metaphorical language here.

The Learning with Computers group used several different cartoon makers and had their students create their own online film festival. Nice examples of how creative students can be with media on the Web.

A placed to find ways to intrigue your students with cross-cultural activities and stories.

This is an absolutely great set of ideas that your students could use to create special effects, like 8mm-style, using rubber and duct tape for a tripod, and overcoming lighting limitations. For the inventive, but low-budget film-maker.

This easy storyboard maker could be used for students to create their own cartoons, digital story, or storyboard a video production. Students can collaborate online within the application.

The teacher starts by creating a class so that students can enter the site and write privately. Students must be over 13 to participate. The teacher can also set up a collaboration option to create group books.

Yet another quiz maker, this one gamified. One good option is to get students to make quizzes for themselves or each other as practice. Looks to be for middle school students.
