Interesting collection of links to digital media resources.

This is a fun site that may stimulate writers and thinkers in your class. While the words may not be very useful for an academic course, and while vocabulary would be very hard to learn this way, it is a site that makes words and meanings enjoyable. You could have students write their own definitions before reading the related passage. Each word has a space for writing a sentence using the word. Thanks to Martin Burrett, Diigo in Education.

This is a great site to teach adult and high school learners more about how to use the web and sift false info from true. Something like a WebQuest, but with varied levels of understanding implicit in the lesson plans and activities.

You can select any of the European languages and a level for listening. Have your tudents practice and make their own recordings.

Over 600 audio clips from the British Library Sound Archive collection. Would be useful for hearing how modern dialects actually sound; includes Minority/Ethnic accents.

A nice page sponsored by the International Reading Association and National Council of Teachers of English. Though oriented to native English speakers, many of the programs and activities, e.g., critical thinking, collaboration, games & tools, tips & how-to's, are appropriate for or can be adapted to EFL/ESL. Teacher Resources can be explored by grade level, from Kindergarten through 12th grade (i.e., sr. high school).

The criteria to get on this list is extremely similar to its companion list [see Best Places Where Students Can Write for an Authentic Audience]: * The work required to create the learning and/or teaching object would not be that great, and could be finished in a reasonable amount of time - a few days at a maximum and preferably much, much less. * The creating and posting process is simple - accessible both to my English Language Learner students and to me. * Posting the piece does not necessarily require any kind of ongoing commitment for communication - once it's up, it might be interesting to check-back after awhile to see if there have been any reactions (if the site is set-up for that kind of involvement), but it's really just a matter of sticking it up there in a place that gets a fair amount of "traffic" and knowing that it's likely others will read it. * There seems to be some kind of enforced standards for all the content that's posted on the site. In other words, when students explore it to see models of what others have written, it's unlikely they will encounter something that is inappropriate for classroom use.

This site creates several kinds of activities and games: interactive map, riddles, fill-in, crossword puzzles, dialogue with audio prompts, dictation, jumbled word or sentence, matching, word search, and quizzzes. You can store your creations for repeated use.

This is a site much like Babbel used to be--you can study using excises, or choose a conversation partner, or just explore aspects of the culture. I didn't have time to get into it futher, but it might be a nice way to get some basics and converse with a real person. It looks as if the chat is both text and audi/webcam. You can log in with Facebook and use that as a way to connect with others.

This regular podcast looks like it might have some useful items -- worth keeping up with. And good listening practice for NNES teachers.

Another social networking way to find others to learn a language with. Has a commercial apect, but looks like fun, and can be used without expert assistance. Has a way for teachers and classes to connect with each other.
