New Horizons Bank: Another bankruptcy in Georgia On Friday, April 15, 2011, New Horizons Bank, East Ellijay, GA was closed by the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) was named Receiver. All deposit accounts, excluding certain brokered deposits, have been transferred to Citizens South Bank, Gastonia, NC and will be available immediately. Safety Ranking BankVega safety ranking was below 10 for 7 reported quarters.

The trend in bank bankruptcies continues unabated. According to FDIC there have been 157 bankruptcies in 2010, which is actually higher than the number of bank failures in 2009 (140). This clearly shows that banks are still struggling to cope with the economic crisis that began in 2008.
