This interactive Flash applet helps students explore concepts of ratio and proportion. It displays two containers, each with its own tap that can be set to deliver different-colored liquids in units of 1 to 10. A main tap can be set to deliver multiples of the amounts on the left- and right-hand taps. Proportion can be modelled using the drain container, which receives whatever is in the left- and right-hand containers.

These are all the aircraft in the air right now. In the left hand column, there is a box called "planes." The number in the box is the number of aircraft airborne. This view is what the traffic management people see for planning purposes at the various airports.

And in the lower right side of their homepage, they also have a great menu that allows you to search by type of engineering (for example, mining, aerospace, computer, etc) and also by category -- under category, you can find museums, amusement parks and other locations that highlight engineering ideas.

"GPS has been the biggest game changer. Before GPS with few navaids available you really had to know the country to navigate to a village in low visibility.
