"The Florida Wing of the CAF currently operates one Navion L-17 aircraft. The Navion, named "Allie Gator", was the first aircraft restored by the Florida Wing. Our next restoration project is a Grumman TBM-3 "Avenger" torpedo-bomber. We are planning to fly the TBM on its inaugural flight on or before May 15, 2014. All it takes is time, money and the hard work of the members and invited guests of the Florida Wing of the CAF."
"The Antikythera Mechanism: http://bit.ly/fm4oFK is the oldest known scientific computer, built in Greece at around 100 BCE. Lost for 2000 years, it was recovered from a shipwreck in 1901. But not until a century later was its purpose understood: an astronomical clock that determines the positions of celestial bodies with extraordinary precision. ((In 2010, we built a fully-functional replica out of Lego. Wastepoered Toilet Mobile - An innovative hybrid project is turning heads across Japan, as the TOTO Bike Neo, known more causally as the poop-mobile, makes a high-profile pitch for environmental responsibility.
The three-wheeled bike is powered by biogas fuel made up of fertilized, purified livestock waste and gray-water, according to the International Business Times. Despite the eye-catching -- and decorative -- oversized-toilet seat, the bike does not actually run on excrement provided by the driver. "
"Burns was one of 18 schools in the world selected to participate in a program that relies on amateur radio volunteers to help connect schoolchildren with astronauts while in orbit.
The Daytona Beach Amateur Radio Association teamed up with the Oak Hill school to make the project a success. "
NASA Aspire To Inspire Project Launch
Click here http://women.nasa.gov/a2i/ to discover A2I: Our vision for
Aspire 2 Inspire is to reach out to young girls and present some of the
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) career opportunities
available through the real lives and jobs of women at NASA. We want to
"spark" the interest and empower young girls because they are valuable and
can make significant contributions to STEM.
"Engineering and fun aren't always two things that kids naturally associate with one another, but there are hundreds of ways to make engineering, physics and design fun and challenging for kids. Here are 100 great experiments that will let kids construct, play, learn and grow, all while they study the fundamentals of engineering."
"The primary purpose of the Cade Museum is to inspire creative thinking, future inventors and early entrepreneurs. The $25 million project will unfold in three phases: Phase I - The first phase will include the construction of a 21,000 square foot building with core exhibits on the neuroscience of creativity, "
"Some of the mathematics in Math Apprentice may seem advanced for its targeted age group, grades 4-7. That's ok. It's important for students to interact with math concepts beyond the standards. This is where the joy of math can often be found.
The goals of this project are to connect math with real world careers, introduce students to more advanced mathematical ideas, and provide additional opportunities to apply math concepts they have already learned. "
NASA's DEVELOP Program -- 2012 Spring and Summer Sessions
DEVELOP is a NASA Science Mission Directorate Applied Sciences-sponsored internship that fosters the training and development of students in the atmospheric and earth sciences. The DEVELOP Program extends the application of NASA earth science research and technology to meet societal needs. Students conduct projects that focus on the practical application of NASA's earth science research and demonstrate how results can benefit partner organizations and local communities.
"Rachel Simmons is passionate about teaching her students to be responsible leaders and citizens as well as accomplished artists. Her interests range from collaborative community art projects to climate change, marine pollution and ecotourism. Research and geography inform her work; she traveled to Antarctica in 2008 and 2009, and will visit Iceland this summer to study appropriate scale and the sustainable landscape. "
"GET STARTED WITH ARDUINO!
Arduino is an open source electronics platform consisting of a simple microcontroller board and a development environment for writing software.
It's a great way to get started with open-source electronics. Join in the projects!"
In 2011, 3 teenage girls swept up the awards at the Google Science Fair. Lauren Hodge, Shree Bose and Naomi Shah were later invited to speak at TEDxWomen about their extraordinary science projects that prove it only takes small lifestyle changes to help make us better, happier and healthier human beings.
"The Engineering is Elementary® (EiE) project fosters engineering and technological literacy among children. EiE has created a research-based, standards-driven, and classroom-tested curriculum that integrates engineering and technology concepts and skills with elementary science topics. EiE lessons not only promote K-12 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning, but also connect with literacy and social studies."
"The Google Science Fair is an online science competition seeking curious minds from the four corners of the globe. Anybody and everybody between 13 and 18 can enter. All you need is an idea. Geniuses are not always A-grade students. We welcome all mavericks, square-pegs and everybody who likes to ask questions. The entry deadline has now passed for the Google Science Fair 2012. We received fantastic projects from the four corners of the world, and have narrowed it down to 15 finalists and awarded our Science in Action prize. The 15 finalists will be flown to a finalist event in California, USA on 23rd July 2012, where the winners will be crowned! "
