"to develop a basic level of scientific literacy. Whether addressing a mundane or momentous issue, a solid foundation in the sciences is critical for every individual's success and the advancement as a society.
Parents and caregivers can be instrumental in supporting children's engagement with science. A companion resource to Celebrating Science: A guide for expanding inquiry-based science education into the community, this suite of materials is meant to support elementary-aged students in bridging three areas of science: science at school, at home, and at work. In our previous classes, we showed quite a few games for teaching advanced
math concepts to young children in a relaxing and fun way that engages the
entire family. This time around, we will teach you how to create your own
games that fit your child?s unique interests and learning preferences. We
will give you the confidence to improvise and create math games on the fly.
The class is a cooperative, peer-to-peer gathering of adventurous grown-ups
who want to enjoy advanced math with babies, toddlers and young kids. Think
of it more like a get-together at your favorite coffee shop than a ?prim
and proper? class.
"The Open Course Library is a project to design and share 81 high enrollment, general education, and pre-college courses. These materials can be used for face-to-face, hybrid and online delivery. "
"Foster independent thinking and 21st century literacy skills with KQED Media Literacy resources. The ability to think critically about the powerful images, words, sounds, and messages that saturate contemporary culture increases students' chance of success in and outside of the classroom. "
"Created to ignite interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), The Verizon Innovative App Challenge opens student's eyes to exciting new possibilities for their futures, opening doors they may never have known were there. The Challenge is a collaborative competition that offers $10,000 grants and Samsung Galaxy Tabs for winning secondary schools and students."
"Sterling was aware that there was a significant gap in the formative space of play. Because of this, she was motivated to spend a year of research with over 100 children in order to develop GoldieBlox: a construction toy for girls."
"Join us in the Icing Research Tunnel at NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, when aeromechanical engineer and icing specialist Judith VanZante gives a tour and explains how engineers apply simple concepts in physical science to create windy, cold and wet conditions for aircraft. VanZante explains the hazards of ice on aircraft, how it is formed, and why research on ice plays a major role in aeronautics. "
"Is there chemistry in the kitchen? Is there physics at the park? Videos and interactives will help students discover the real-world science around them and make connections to what they are learning in school. There is something for everyone! "
"Articles and Editorials that help you step up to STEM. Practical advice on integrating common core standards, assessments, class room management, and growing STEM awareness in your school."
"The i2i Learning Laboratory supports interactive technologies and team-based activities that enable first-year engineers to build their knowledge through required gateway courses and explore authentic problems relevant to society. Innovative teaching and learning technologies are at the heart of this enterprise"
