"Hundreds of aviators from around the world have descended upon Reno, Nevada, for the 2011 Women in Aviation, International Conference. Pilots, mechanics, engineers and aviation enthusiasts alike are all taking part in this year's conference devoted to the themes "Inspire, Enthuse, Innovate." Today we bring you the last of our daily updates from the conference, as Coast Guard aviators share their stories with those in the aviation field and learn from those with whom they share the skies."

"Aviation High School, part of Highline Public Schools but open to students across the region, has been in temporary locations since it opened in 2004. The new facility is being built in collaboration with The Museum of Flight. In addition, Aviation High School was the first college preparatory aviation-themed high school in the nation and is dedicated to becoming the premier school of choice for science, technology, engineering and math learning in the region."

Science and Engineering day camp for children between the ages of 7-13. Each week long session will focus on a different topic and this year we are offering six sessions in the following areas: Robotics, Engineering, Mathematics, Space Life Sciences, Aviation Week 1 (Flying and Air Traffic Control) and Aviation Week 2 (Safety Science and Aviation Maintenance).

John Burroughs High School in Burbank, Calif. David Vezina had given up a job piloting Learjets to teach kids about aviation. In addition to providing real airplanes to high schools and other interested groups, Build A Plane is working with the National Educational Association, the Wathen Foundation, the FAA, NASA and several key aviation and aerospace organizations to create an aviation-based curricula that teaches science, technology, engineering and math. And for groups that don't have the room or the faculty to construct real aircraft, Build A Plane will soon release a software package and lesson guide that will allow kids to build airplanes virtually.

Using aviation education to promote interest in science, technology, engineering, and math in rural Alaska. AvSTEM is currently in two villages in western Alaska. Grant Funk has lived in Hooper Bay for 10 years, and is actively involved with youth and aviation education in the Hooper Bay school. Over the past 3 years, the Hooper Bay AvSTEM program has been building a Thorp T-211 experimental airplane through Build A Plane. They hope to fly the Thorp in the next year. Grant also does distance education aviation courses with the Pilot Station, AK school.

Aviation Discovery for Women encourages young women, ages 15-18, to explore their interest in aviation and aerospace. Explore fields such as Flight, Maintenance Technology, Air Traffic Control, Engineering, Meteorology, and Space with industry professionals in a learning environment.

During most of time it would be used as a normal airplane, like taking off and landing on conventional runways, but the main difference is in the power source of this aircraft. It will be powered by a Sabre engine, specially designed for its purpose. It will be working like a normal jet engine in the lower attitude, breathing in oxygen and when in higher altitude of outer space it will act as a rocket engine. So, we may call it some sort of a "hybrid engine"."

"Amazing pictures from Switzerland show where "jetman" Yves Rossy gave this incredible flying display, using a tailor-made jet pack. The aviation enthusiast leapt from a helicopter and performed a series of aerial acrobatics above the Alps. He then joined two jet planes in a synchronized flight. To synchronise their flight paths the jets reduced their speed to 220 kilometres per hour (137 miles per hour), which put their engines at a point close to stalling. Rossy's previous aerial feats include flying the English Channel and looping the loop around a hot-air balloon."
