How To Train Your Robot « Dr. Techniko's Children's Stories - 0 views

  •
"Last Sunday, I taught six kids of ages 5 to 7 how to program. "In what programming language?" you may ask. Well…I didn't use a programming language, at least none that you know of. In fact, I didn't even use a computer. Instead, I devised a game called "How To Train Your Robot". Before I explain how the game works, let me tell my motivation."

"NASA's Spacecraft 3D is an augmented reality (AR) application that lets you learn about and interact with a variety of spacecraft that are used to explore our solar system, study Earth, and observe the universe. Using a printed AR Target and the camera on your mobile device, you can get up close with these robotic explorers, see how they move, and learn about the the engineering feats used to expand our knowledge and understanding of space. Spacecraft 3D will be updated over time to include more of the amazing spacecraft that act as our robotic eyes on the earth, the solar system and beyond!"

Robot Fly Mimics Insect Flight, Hovers With Ultrathin Wings (VIDEO) - 0 views

  •
" The device uses layers of ultrathin materials that can make its wings flap 120 times a second, which is on a par with a housefly's flapping rate. This "required tremendous innovation in design and fabrication techniques", he adds. The robot's wings are composed of thin polyester films reinforced with carbon fibre ribs and its 'muscles' are made from piezoelectric crystals, which shrink or stretch depending on the voltage applied to them."

"I also chose mechanical engineering because it is a very broad major. Graduating with a MechE degree opens a variety of career paths. Relevant post-grad job topics include cars, airplanes, heating and cooling systems, manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, robots, medical devices and much more. I like the idea that I was leaving my options open by being a MechE. Last, it seems to me that with the technology advancements and global problems of today, mechanical engineers will be at the forefront of these solutions. I am not positive what I want to do when I graduate, but I am interested in alternative energy, especially wind technology. I like to think I am going to solve the world's energy problems."

Robonaut: Home - 0 views

  •
"The first humanoid robot in space was sent to the space station with the intention of eventually taking over tasks too dangerous or mundane for astronauts, and the first such task identified for it was monitoring air velocity. Astronauts onboard the space station generally have to measure the air flow in front of vents inside the station to ensure that none of the ventilation ductwork gets clogged or blocked. The task involves holding a gauge in front of vents in five different locations on the station and taking several measurements of the air flow every 90 days or so."
