An East Hanover resident pleaded guilty today to stealing from an Elks Lodge and has agreed to cooperate with the state in its prosecution of former Morris County Tax Commissioner Anthony Crecco on the same theft charges. Re: "Belt tightening hits Tacoma Elks Club" (TNT, 6-10). My husband and I had dinner at the Elks Club during an open invitation to the public last year. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, and the food and service were very good. We were considering joining the club and asked for an application. One of the questions on the application was, "Do you believe in God?" We consider our personal beliefs to be a private matter. Truly, personal faith is no one else's business.

There's no denying the positives the Elks of Canada have achieved since its inception in 1912. The organization has dedicated itself to working for the good and welfare of the community with priorities for the needs of children, senior citizens and many others in mind. Special concern has always been placed on the need for nearly identification and rehabilitation of hearing-impaired children and their national charity, the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children, has contributed over $15 million throughout the country in public awareness and special projects to bring about the early identification of those children.

Davis, 25, has lived in Lincoln Park for years. He walks past the building - a massive gray dome encircled by a hefty colonnade - almost every day. But while the Elks National Memorial and Headquarters, located at the intersection of Diversey Avenue and Sheridan Road, is open to the public seven days a week during the summer, Davis shrugged it off. The Watertown Elks are distributing free dictionary reference books to all of the public school third-grade classes in Watertown, Jefferson, Johnson Creek and Lake Mills. The local Dictionary Project is being funded through a donation from the Watertown Elks Lodge. The idea for The Dictionary Project began in 1992 when Annie Plummer of Savannah, Ga., gave 50 dictionaries to children who attended a school close to her home. Each year she continued to give this gift, raising money to help give more and more books so that in her lifetime she raised enough money to buy 17,000 dictionaries for children in Savannah.

IDK if this is the best pr piece as it seems to imply that the lodge is fading away and becoming a bit desparate

In case you were wondering Sec 16.08 allows for a lodge to hold a social session where non-members may be admitted. Same thing as an open house if you ask me.

some hard core elks would say this is against the rules. I think it's a great idea myself.
