"Tiffin Elks Lodge 94 is celebrating 127 years in Tiffin. Exalted Ruler Joe Steinmetz, who joined the lodge seven years ago, is helping plan the event with other members. Why celebrate 127 years? "We want to commemorate 127 years of benevolence in Tiffin and celebrate another 100 years of active involvement in our community," Steinmetz said. Friday, dinner and live entertainment will take place for members and guests. Events Saturday are open to the public at 106 E. Perry St. Indoor and outdoor activities are to continue all day Saturday, with proceeds to benefit Disabled American Veterans. At 8 a.m., registration opens for a 5K run or 1K walk. An opening ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. and the race steps off at 10 a.m., following a route along Riverside Drive and downtown Tiffin. Registration for the 5K and 1K can be done up to the day of the race at $15 per person. The age groups are: 12 and under; 13-19; 20-34; 35-50; and over 50. Forms can be obtained at the Elks, Clover Club, Madison Street Tavern, Varsity Barber Shop, Champs Barber Shop, Pit Stop, Reino's and Ace Hardware. Checks should be made payable to Tiffin Elks Lodge 94. A grill and beverage bar opens at noon to serve all day. A mini-golf challenge and cornhole tournament are to begin at 1 p.m. in the parking lot. The cost is $20 per team for the cornhole tournament. To register, call (419) 447-2818 or email er@tiffinelks.com. Music also is planned. From 4-7 p.m., The House Band of Toledo is to play rock with a reggae and Cajun twist. Next, 8-11 p.m. is the "rooty music" of Dragon Wagon, with a mix of bluegrass, rock and folk. Steinmetz said the Elks National Foundation issues grants to qualifying lodges to meet community needs. Steinmetz said the Elks have partnered with organizations such as Winterfest and Tiffin-Seneca Heritage Festival and are looking for grant opportunities for both events this year. Wow! SC has added a lodge in Fort Mill a few weeks ago and now one in Pendleton. In recent years, there have been Conway & Little river. Perhaps one more. All this made more possible by the change in the numbers needed (from 100 to 50) to request dispensation to form a lodge! I wonder who had the timerity to propose such a resolution?? PENDLETON - A new Pendleton Elks Lodge will be instituted this weekend. About 75 members will be part of the ceremony set to start at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Greenville Elks Lodge, said Jim Vogel, a spokesman for the Pendleton Lodge. Ceremonies on Saturday include institution of the new lodge, initiation of new members and installation of officers, Vogel said. The Greenville lodge is at 7700 Pelham Road.

By Ben Bromley / News Republic You might think a title like "exalted ruler" would come with a golden scepter or a foppish hat, but Dorothy Alt has neither. What she has instead is a historic title: She's the first woman to lead the Baraboo Elks Lodge.

There is no doubt this lodge was improperly closed and the sponsor and DD exceeded their authority. If a Lodge officer did something like this he'd be expelled. Shouldn't the same happen to others..regardless of their stature in the organization? Hopefully, this lodge will weather the grievous injury inflicted upon it. Renters will not cancel, others will move to support the lodge and members will step up to help. Let's hope so anyway.

(Mike Jory/Times-Herald) The nearly 50-year-old Redwood Parkway Elks Lodge facility may be sold, though the organization's Vallejo chapter will not fold, a club official said. Local lodge members OK'd the facility's sale, and a one-tenant developer has expressed interest, said Fred Sessler, the real estate broker handling the matter.

Their organization, Hobart Elks Lodge 1152, formerly was called the Gary Elks Lodge. It was renamed Gary-Hobart Elks Lodge 1152 before the current name was adopted. On Saturday, the lodge celebrated its 100th anniversary.

"ONEIDA - The Oneida Elks Lodge 767 will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of establishing headquarters at 191 Main St. on May 30 from 3-6 p.m. at the lodge. There will be refreshments served and Back to the Country will perform on the porch. "We have one of the nicest lodge facilities in the whole Central New York district," said Don Skinner, Elks trustee. "This building is a very historic part of downtown Oneida. I'd hate to ever see it go.""

The Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge will host an open house in conjunction with a motorcycle show from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., Aug. 22 at the lodge, 158 Conejo School Road, Thousand Oaks. The lodge will be open for facility tours. Officers will be available to answer questions about the organization. The weekly Elks charity barbecue will be available at prices starting at $6. The dinners were featured in 805 magazine as one of the best in Ventura County.

Now why would the leadership of any lodge sell their building without requesting permission from GL? And this is a lodge that is 115 years old? SMH If true, that's just a perfect illustration how far this organization has fallen. We do not seem to be attracting people with business and administration abilities or if we do then they are not willing to take on leadership responsibilities.

This lodge was given the bowling equipment by a private operator who went out of business. It would be cool if they could find a way to make it work in their lodge. I wish our lodge had room for a bowling center. That's lots of fun.

The Elks are a fraternal organization founded in 1868, although the organization had previously existed under the name of Jolly Corks. The first lodge was formed in New York City. The local lodge is focused on Maplewood and Irvington as well as South Orange and hosts a pancake breakfast every second Sunday of the month. Other fundraising events include a golf outing in July and a pig roast in September.

nice idea and good exposure for the lodge. Of course, our paranoid AON insurance company would probably go ballistic. This AON company IMHO needs to be removed and replaced with another company. They are killing lodges rental revenue streams with their paranoia.

Couldn't agree with you more... Only problem AON is like every other insruance company, there in it to make MONEY!!!
