Share the ways you currently implement Twitter in your teaching and learning: Students in my course New Information Technologies do an "Internet Censorship" project, focused on a specific country. I ask them to follow a journalist who tweets on that country as part of their research to understand the state of Internet freedom in the country they select. -- Lora Since shortly after Twitter was launched, I've experimented with various iterations of "The Twitter Essay," an assignment that has students considering the nature of the "essay" as a medium and how they might do that work within the space of 140 characters. -- Jesse (@Jessifer) In my fully online classes, I've started using Twitter to replace the discussion forum as the central location for student interaction. -- Jesse (@Jessifer) Show Tweets that have gotten people arrested and prompt discussion on whether it is fair that anyone be arrested for any Tweet in the US, who is likely to be arrested for their Tweets, what kinds of Tweets are likely to prompt arrest, etc. Students in my First Year Seminar course "The Irish Imagination: Yeats to Bono" developed a platform for digital annotation of Irish literature. No, Coalición de Creadores, el Estado no ha perdido 1.648 millones de euros e... - 0 views

    "Con las Elecciones Generales a la vuelta de la esquina, la Coalición de Creadores (compuesta por SGAE, FAP y otras entidades de gestión de derechos) ha aprovechado para hacer balance de la actual legislatura y no parecen estar nada contentos con el Partido Popular. Según dicha organización, la "piratería" ha generado numerosas pérdidas tanto a los creadores como al propio país en concepto de impuestos no ingresados. Entre los datos que ofrece la Coalición se menciona que el Estado ha perdido 1.648 millones de euros en impuestos no recaudados entre 2012 y 2014 debido a las descargas, que "perjuicio económico causado por la piratería" a los creadores asciende a 54.601 millones de euros y que en España hay 9.000 accesos a contenidos ilegales por minuto. ¿El problema con estas cifras? Además de la forma de contarlo (¿"accesos a contenidos ilegales"?), precisamente el origen de estos datos. Cifras Coalicion El estudio "encargado" con metodologías misteriosas La Coalición se remite al estudio que encargaron (sí, ellos mismos) a la consultora Gfk y sobre el que ya hablamos a comienzos de año. En la metodología se explica que se han realizado encuestas a 50.000 "panelistas con captación personalizada". ¿Han preguntado a 50.000 personas entonces? No exactamente... En el informe de 2012 incluían exactamente la misma frase en su metodología, "encuesta a internautas de panel GfK de 50.000 panelistas con captación personalizada", pero el responsable del informe aclaraba a Eldiario.es que en total se habían realizado 3.262 encuestas, de las cuales se habían validado 2.571. Una muestra que, si bien dicho diario asegura que puede ser una muestra representativa fiable, se completó con entrevistas en focus group presenciales.
