Alberta is blessed with six distinct natural regions: Aspen Parkland, Boreal Forest, Canadian Shield, Grassland, Foothill and Rocky Mountain. Each region has its own unique landscape features and climate and each supports its own distinct species of animals and plants. Click on the map (left) to visit one of the six bio-regions.

So, This Is Alberta! is a unique website, featuring the designs and illustrations of Alberta's own Gary Delainey and Gerry Rasmussen. The website draws its inspiration from Delainey and Rasmussen's book, So This Is Canada! and follows the comic adventures of a raven and a Richardson's ground squirrel as they encounter the artifacts of Alberta's past and present.

Biodegradation and recycling are terms often used in waste management and environmental recommendations as it greatly helps reduce waste and keeps the environment clean. Biodegradation is the chemical breakdown of organic substances by using bacteria and microbes. Organic materials can be broken down either aerobically, with oxygen, or anaerobically, without oxygen.

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants, algae and many types of bacteria convert carbon dioxide into organic compounds, such as sugar by using the energy from sunlight. This sugar is glucose, which is their food. A common by-product of photosynthesis is oxygen, as both carbon dioxide and water are needed for this process to occur.
