Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that accelerates the rate at which your skin cells grow. An effective method to treat psoriasis is phototherapy or light therapy.

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that affects the skin. It occurs when the immune system mistakes the skin cells as a pathogen, and sends out faulty signals that speed up the growth cycle of skin cells. The condition is characterized by thick inflammed (red) skin with flaky whitish patches which closely resemble scales. Psoriasis is not a contagious disease and one of its most common triggers is high levels of stress either physical or mental. Some of the triggers of Psoriasis are bacterial or viral infections, extreme skin dryness, too much or too little sunlight, excessive alcohol and heavy medication like lithium and immuno-suppressants.

The importance of early diagnosis for pediatric psoriasis, other than ensuring that your child can live comfortably from day to day, is that psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory disorder that may be associated with certain comorbidities, based on the type and severity of your child's psoriasis.
