WordAhead, a vocabulary video and vocabulary practice website that I reviewed in April, has launched a new service for teachers. WordAhead now gives teachers the ability to create custom playlists of vocabulary videos. The playlists can be shared via email, a posted link on a blog, or by posting a vocabulary video widget on a blog or website. The teacher section of WordAhead also offers advice for having students create their own vocabulary videos.
For those not familiar with WordAhead, WordAhead provides nearly 900 animated and narrated videos explaining difficult vocabulary words from the SAT and ACT.

Smart.fm is a free service designed to help you learn languages, mathematics, and history independently. At it's most basic, Smart.fm provides a flashcard-like service for learning languages, learning formulas, and learning facts. You can hear the flashcards read to you, read the flashcards, and play games based upon the flashcards you're studying. Smart.fm takes the flashcard concept a step farther by offering a personalized repetition schedule based upon what you've learned and what you haven't yet learned. The schedule adjusts each time you revisit your account. Watch the video below to learn more about how the Smart.fm system works.

Mashpedia is an interesting service that matches reference articles from Wikipedia to materials from other sources like YouTube, Flickr, Twitter, Digg, and the web in general. The purpose of drawing materials from multiple sources is to provide users with a comprehensive view of news stories and reference topics.
Mashpedia could be a great resource for a current events class. By offering video and image results, Mashpedia provides materials that can be accessed by almost all students regardless of reading level. By listing links from multiple sources students can quickly compare news stories to what real people are saying about a story.
Mashpedia is also useful as a starting place in a student's quest for multimedia resources about a reference topic such as Winter Olympics or World War II.
