This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Peter is a school principal with a radical solution, no school bell, no school levels, staff selection and curriculum is even decided by students. Result? No bullying, collaboration, innovation in school dynamics. Peter Hutton hated his own school experience, where he felt that education was being done "to him". As Principal of Templestowe College he developed an educational model that allows students to individualize their education and share control in the running of the school.

Mozilla Open Badges are not proprietary - they use free software and an open technical standard. That means that any organization can create, issue and verify digital badges, and any user can earn, manage and display these badges all across the web.

Digital badges are an assessment and credentialing mechanism that is housed and managed online. Badges are designed to make visible and validate learning in both formal and informal settings, and hold the potential to help transform where and how learning is valued.

Shanell Petty: The Alabama Workforce Training Center (AWTC), is a training site for manufacturing and construction industries, located in Birmingham and Central Alabama regions. Workers from these companies interested in advancing their skills, utilize training provided by AWTC. The goal of AWTC is to provide specific skill training to workers. Further, AWTC assist manufacturing and construction industries maintain sufficient trained workforce. Not only does AWTC provide specialized training for construction trades and manufacturing technology, they also provide softskills training for non-management and management level employees.

Yuewei Shi: The mission of yearup program is to close the opportunity divide by providing urban young adults with skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional career and higher education.

Lena Fielder: The Workforce Development Program Guide addresses fives critical issues that plague the workforce development in international societies. In keeping with their mission, USAID has created a seven-step framework to improve the workforce development process. The seven-step framework provides explicit details on how to construct a workforce development program, the tools to implement the program and how to measure the outcomes to ensure they are meeting the supply and demands of the workforce and economic development for a global society.
