ARTISTS' BOOKS - 2 views

  •
So this is a fantastic website. Reed has created this hub for their artists' books collection. They've digitized many books, so you can look at books page by page. If you do enough clicking and searching to get to the individual pages, you can zoom in really far on the pages. All in all, a great artists' books resource.
  •
How to get to the place where you zoom in: Click on the book you want to see. On this page you can watch a slide show of someone going through the book. They even start with taking the book out of its case/box. However, if you want to see individual pages zoomed in, you can click the "view in context" button next to the title of the book that is located below the slide show. Not all of the books have this option, but many do.

What a surprise; I thought she had only done one or two books. I particularly like the Merz Sonata. Maybe I should see if there are any more copies left, by chance.

This database is an illustrated, descriptive index to the Artists' Book Collection, located in the Kohler Art Library, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Presently, the Artists' Book Collection contains over 800 titles. The database indexes approximately 760 of those titles, over 500 of which have one to four images to visually represent the structure and/or content of the book. With the goal to create a "visual finding aid" to the entire Artists' Book Collection, the database will be expanded and updated on a periodic basis.

A celebratory discussion from the American Antiquarian Society to mark the completion of the series, from "The Colonial Book in the Atlantic World" to "Print Culture in Postwar America", published in collaboration with the University of North Carolina Press and with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Center for the Book at the Library of Congress.Through these publications and the AAS Program in the History of the Book, the Society is acknowledged as a leader in the emerging international field of book history. The United States series- from Codex to the Kindle- is a lively consideration of authorship, reading, and publishing in the development of American life and culture. For 36 weeks, a sketchbook was sent in random order between four artists: two in Brooklyn, two in Belfast. Every Wednesday, one participant would receive the book. The following Monday it was sent out, giving each artists five days to complete a spread in response to the one that preceded it. You can view the each week's spread online.

1000 journals - Journals - 1 views

There's definitely a line between journaling and artist's books, but I think the two are often interrelated.
  •
Emma, this is an amazing site, with much relevance to artists books. In fact there is a strong diaristic element to some artists books, as we will see later in April. Your post reminds me that I wanted to tell you all about the fabulous exhibition of diaries I saw last week at the Morgan Library in New York. I'll put that info in a post to the group.
