Bush says sacrificed free-market principles to save economy - 0 views

  •
Generally, from people at that level, one has to read a whole text and wait until the very end in order to be able to detect some kind of contradiction. No such pain here, it's in the same sentence. Something else is clearly collapsing.

The Unfinished Project: Exploration, Learning and Networks | the human network - 0 views

  • Many businesses are creating their own, ad-hoc systems to share knowledge resources among their staff, as they understand how important this is for professional development.

Many, probably, not all and that's a problem. There does not seem to be any department dedicated to this task: making knowledge accessible to all in a company. Only a few (not many) understand this and make it a priority.

  • The 2008 edition of the WKCI compares 145 regions across 19 knowledge economy benchmarks (full data for all indicators across each of the 19 benchmarks is contained in the accompanying Excel spreadsheets). This represents an increase of twenty regions compared to the last edition in 2005: nine from Europe, eight from North America, and three from Asia Pacific. These new regions were selected on the basis of a survey of a wide range of regions appearing to be become more internationally competitive. This year’s report also contains a special chapter on economic development in the three leading Chinese regions.

Opinion: What Productivity Studies Really Show - 0 views

  • It's the information and email overload studies that trip my BS detector the most. While I agree that an overstuffed inbox and constant email monitoring can kill your day, this $700 billion a year cost to the American economy makes me raise one eyebrow high in doubt. Did researchers factor in how much time email actually saves people who use it?

I remember reading same figure and thinking "how did they manage to evaluate the cost?" and then, like the writer here, started to distance myself from what was obviously sensationalized news.

Wikinomics » Blog Archive » The Problem with Knowledge Work Part I: It's not ... - 0 views

  •
supplement to highlighted part: "E-mail often gets blamed for all of this "extra work," but the reality is, these tasks and activities won't go away simply by switching to other technologies like wikis, IM, or intranets. Moreover, these tasks often result in new value for the enterprise and need to be recognized as "important work" not "extra work."

Lorcan Dempsey's weblog: Web 2.0 again - 0 views

  •
I do not totally agree to this. Pagerank takes into account the contribution of participants by gathering links they chose to refer to but, and this is where I difer, as implicit and intentional as this may sound it is also passive.

Dimebrain: Books vs. blogs: the value of technical books and ideas to improve them - 0 views

  • A story treats the material like a complete whole, and it has context. While a blog offers schizophrenic, just-in-time information to help me tell my own story somewhere else, a book is, or should be, a story about me, using the technology, encountering challenges, overcoming them, and emerging the hero.
