A controversial bill to legalize same-sex marriage has been introduced to the Australian parliament. The private member's bill comes amid heated debate among government MPs about whether to change the law or put the matter to a plebiscite. The government's official position is that marriage should only be between a man and a woman. This article depicts the theme of globalization. Back in June, the United States Supreme Court ruled the prohibition of gay marriage unconstitutional. The U.S. influenced Australia to now introduce it to their parliament. Since the passing of this law was such a big step in United States history, it made international news, spreading all over the world. When Australians saw this, it influenced them to bring the law to their land. What will the Australian parliament rule? What factors may decide against gay marriage?

In this article, it explains the most recent information about the animosity between North and South Korea. As mentioned in the story, the ongoing conflict between the two countries has once again been brought to attention in the beginning of August when South Korean men were injured by North Korean landmines. More recently, South Korea had detected a rocket being launched toward their country. They then responded by firing some shells back toward the area from where the rocket had been launched. This particular event reminds me of the theme of region in geography. This is because the two cultures have always had a long history where they were fighting each other, as was the case in the Korean War. Region itself, is a geographical area based on how a culture functions. Therefore, it is not too much of a surprise that they are once again fighting because it is their natural tendency to fight. I am sure that this is just the beginning of this current conflict and that there will be more trouble for these countries in the future.

Why do your teachers ask you to text mark, annotate, etc. while you read? Check out this article. 

They want us to be able to analyze what we read - not to just place it in the context of the story, but to make connections, look for symbols, etc. Thar way, the text gains a deeper meaning instead of 'we're reading this just because it's a book we were told to read', it's we're reading this because it's an excellent example of symbolism and character development - which you might not pick up on unless you were analyzing the text. Suddenly, a book you were told to read has more meaning because now you know why you are reading it and why it is important to your education. Like how we have to look for the themes of geography in our books. If we were just reading the book, I would be done faster, but I would wonder why, exactly, was this book going to be important for my continuing education. This makes me pay attention to details and make connections to the textbook section you gave us. Education fascinates me because it is so important, yet people have so many different views on how everything should be done and whether or not the current system works.

One of the most amazing landscapes I've ever seen ...  How can geography impact the diffusion of culture?

I believe geography plays a big role in the diffusion of culture of the Brenner Pass. This Pass has a unique history in which it was connected by two major dictators, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. Due to the connection of these major dictators many cultures in this area are also connected. For example this Pass is located in Italy, but over 80% of its population claims Germany as its first language. In addition, because this Pass is located on the exterior of Italy it becomes a hotspot for cultural diffusion. The reason for this is because locals from Italy can travel to other nations and express their culture by using the Brenner Pass. Also, many foreigners from other nations, such as Austria or Germany, can travel into Italy, using the Brenner Pass, and express their culture as well. This expression of culture can be seen due to the names of the various stations, tunnels, and viaducts. The names of the stations, tunnels and, viaducts have German names which represent the diffusion of culture from Germany to Italy. By examining the Brenner Pass it is clear to see how its geography can impact its diffusion of culture.

I enjoyed watching your video which was well done and looked delicious! I also found the liver and onion dish as a taboo to be interesting because of how it is accepted in some regions and not others. It seems it is more widely accepted in areas that are influenced by folk culture rather than popular culture, which is funny because many things are eaten in a popular cultural society that are worse for you and contain more chemicals than the natural liver of a cow.

3 main ideas of the article: -Ultimately, Northern Ireland is a very small place, with a lot of madness, and in this sense it is also very similar to Israel. -Peace in Northern Ireland is there, but it's an unsettled peace. -Protestants, many descendants of Scottish and English settlers, see themselves in the Israelis' position - staking a righteous, ancient claim to territory in defiance of a force they view as bloodthirsty insurgents, the Irish Republican Army. This article talks about how there is still some unsettled people in all of Ireland, regarding religion. Also, during the unsettled peace, there are some incidents between Protestants and Roman Catholics, that connects to the Palestine-Israel conflict today. Will there be another religious war in Ireland?

It reminds me of the book I read, "Angela's Ashes" where the author mentions the stereotypes about Protestants that the Roman Catholics held even though these people weren't part of the conflict so long ago. The article is a reminder that history often repeats itself.

I liked how this article talked about two different conflicts and made a connection between the two. I also read Angela's Ashes, and it discussed the same religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants. Both of these issues signify the importance or meaning of territory to a religion, especially universal religions because of the hearth or birthplace. They have expanded and now try to return to the hearth which creates conflict as there are already people who have inhabited the area.

This article is about the Palestinian conflict we have been discussing in class, and how it seems to be turning from a racial to a religious war, changing from bad to worse. How much longer can this region go before full-out war begins? What other countries may be dragged into a possible war?

I think because of the histories of the two places and the fact that what is happening now is because of years of increasing tensions and dangerous conditions, this conflict will not be solved soon, and because of that, it will only get worse. Both groups want the territory, but one group was placed there (the Jewish people by the British) so they spread and began to dominate, claiming it as theirs.

I agree with Alex, the tension in this region is historic and recently rekindled with the insertion of Israel back into this area. The conflict there is essentially a time bomb on its final countdown and is not likely to be dismantled before it goes off. From my perspective there is no way to stop it unless one religion is removed which is even more impossible.

Different empires have ruled a major portion of the planet in different eras of world history. The Romans, Ottomans, English, Mongols, French, Russians, Germans and many others enslaved nations, dynasties and millions of people whenever they had the chance. At any point in time, there has been only one 'super' power in the world and today, it's America.

I find it interesting that this article can be related to multiple themes, depending on how you perceive it. This topic and the idea of germ arsenals could be incredibly deadly and has the potential, if used in the future, to obliterate entire groups of people leaving them vulnerable and their homelands verminous.
