Is Racism Still Alive in America? - 0 views

  •
This article talks about how even though an African-American, Barack Obama, was recently elected president, we are still dealing with problems regarding racism today in the U.S. It talks about how right before Obama's election, the country was struggling with the economy and there were also problems involving unemployment and health costs. This connects to popular culture in the 1920's because they were dealing with many similar problems during this time period. African Americans and people of other ethnicities were frowned upon in society, and there was always lots of trouble finding jobs, not to mention finding one with good pay and reasonable work hours/conditions. These are still things that people have recently been struggling with today in America. The article mentions that there are also people that are against the laws enforced by the federal government, just like some of the people we have been discussing that were alive in the 1920's. A last similarity is that there has been an increase in anti-immigration groups throughout the country, which is similar because many people were against immigrants entering the U.S. in the 1920's. Of all the similar problems mentioned, which do you think is the most important to work through and change? Why?
