New York Times Releases Investigation of Trump's Tax Returns; Trump Calls it 'Fake News... - 2 views

  •
Here is another article about what Trump avoiding taxes could mean: https://www.politico.com/news/2020/09/28/trump-taxes-five-takeaways-422789
  •
I think everyone should pay a certain amount on their taxes depending on how much they make. the trip makes $500 million a year according to his 2018 year income. It has shown he only paid 750 in federal income tax. not to mention he has gone on vacation many times which also costs from anywhere from 55 to 315 million. Even if he says its fake news things like those cant keep going on.

Trump Will Announce Supreme Court Nominee on Friday or Saturday | AllSides - 12 views

  •
This is BIG news. We will discuss the implications of this in class. Here is a good article that explains how likely it is the the Republicans will get their way on this issue: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/19/us/politics/mitch-mcconnell-trump-supreme-court.html

I think President Trump should wait for the next election to vote on a new Supreme Court Nominee, so the new president has a choice on who they would like.
  •
I do not think that Donald Trump should be able to appoint a judge right now. The election is not even 3 months away, and Obama wasn't able to appoint a judge when he was in office and the election was not as close as it is now. I think it would be really unfair if they allowed him to do so. It is very important right now who gets into office and picks a new judge so I think that htye should wait.
  •
I think there is a massive double standard here. This same argument was made with Obama when he was in office on an election year and he was blocked from a nomination and now Trump is being allowed to nominate a judge. The senate will push it through because it is republican dominated. It makes me sad to think that this is what our country has come to
  •
The double standard here is obvious because the Senate is Republican-controlled they are going to go back on what they said during the last election just to appease Trump. It is not right and brings into question their credibility, how can we trust them to support us and do what they say they will do if they can't even follow their own rules?
  •
I agree with the double standard thought. It is unfair to allow one president to nominate a judge while another has to wait. I believe that they should wait to bring in a new court justice.
  •
I do not think Trump should´ve been able to appoint a new judge, I believe it should have been the next presidents responsibility.
  •
I agree with Shana, I don't think trump should be able to pick someone, it should be up to the next president
  •
I think that after the election this year, that person elected should appoint a new judge.
  •
I think we should wait until the new president is elected to appoint a new judge so it's fair because that is what Obama had to do.
  •
The 2016 election was 9 months after the death of a judge and Republicans made Obama wait. We're days before and they're telling Trump to nominate now. I think that's wrong and that they should wait until after the election.
  •
I think we should wait to add a new person into the spot. Thats what RBG would have wanted and thats what had happened in the past.
  •
I agree with waiting to add a new person into the spot, there's a lot at risk here when finding a fit person for RBG, the person who Trump nominated goes against all things RBG was for, so I think it would've been best to wait.
  •
I think we should hold President Trump to the same regulations that Obama was held to when he was in this same position.

Flag burning: President Donald Trump calls for Supreme Court to reconsider flag burning... - 14 views

  •
I think it's honestly disappointing that Donald Trump is going against our first amendment right to burn the flag because I just think it's a piece of fabric and there are tons and tons of flags sold almost everywhere in the U.S.
  • ...8 more comments...
  •
Yes, he is the president, but the first amendment was made the first amendment in 1791 and is still the first amendment today. In today's day in age, change is all around us but, we choose no to change certain things because why fix what's not broken. if the first amendment hasn't changed since then, then there is no reason to fix it.
  •
I think it is completely disrespectful to the people that fought for this country and families who are handed that flag when their kid has died in battle and you people think it's okay just to burn it and think of it as just a piece of fabric. It is a resemblance of what people fought in for..this country, freedom.
  •
I think burning the flag is so disrespectful. So many people fought for our country and the flag is a way of honoring them. I agree with Trump, it is a disgrace that people think it is okay to burn the flag.
  •
I think burning the flag is disrespectful. Not just because it is the flag of our country but because so many people have fought and sadly dead for this country and we should respect that. There should be a consequence for burning the flag.
  •
I think burning the flag is very disrespectful. We have so many people who fight for our country under the flag. I think that burning it is disrespecting the dead soldiers and our own country. I think a punishment should be put in place for anyone who purposely burns a flag.
  •
I agree with Marissa; burning the flag is very disrespectful, and if this happens I will be very disappointed.
  •
Burning the flag is definitely not a good thing, as many people above have talked about, it is disrespectful. But I think making laws like "Loss of citizenship" or "Jailtime" is a bit much compared to many other crimes going around unpunished now.
  •
I agree no one should burn down the US flag because it's not right.
  •
loss of citizenship is extreme but I understand the concept, like if you hate this country enough to disrespect our most meaningful symbol and the many people that fought for the right to fly the flag why not just leave? they should definitely be punished in some way.
  •
Historically I can understand why people don't like flag burning, but it should in no way be criminalized. It may symbolize something but when you break it down its just a piece of cloth you can buy for a dollar.

Trump lied about science | Science - 5 views

  •
I think that this was irresponsible of him as a president, he wasn't keeping the US from panic he was creating a much bigger problem. If the people knew from the start that the virus was deadly the curve would not have reached such a high
  • ...6 more comments...
  •
I agree and as a president, I think more people would have taken the proper precautions to begin with, and things would not be so out of hand.
  •
I agree, we wouldn't have panicked if we had all the facts. If we know from the start how bad it was we could have put safety measures in much sooner.
  •
He acted like it wasn't a big deal, and waited to long to make a big deal about it, causing everything to grow so big that millions of people got covin.
  •
I think that if he took it seriously at the start, the number of cases in America would be completely different. Instead of worrying about trying to prevent a "panic", he should've focused more on the health of the citizens.
  •
I think that he could've handled the whole thing differently and told people to stay calm and help figure out a solution together rather than hide it.
  •
I think that he should have been honest about it because now we are all screwed because we didn't have a lot of previous knowledge to take precautions as he did. It's hard to put any trust in him after that. what else could he be lying about?
  •
I believe that pushing past how big of an issue the virus was led to putting many persons lives in danger. There were many other options he had but instead he chose to keep the information away from the media/public. Also it makes it harder for some people to put their trust in him because of his lie, could he be hiding other important information?
  •
I feel like everyone's lying at this point, I don't know who or what to trust, our president himself contradicts himself over and over as it says here, so there's no say to who is really telling the truth ever.

Germany coronavirus: Fans turn out for Tim Bendzko concert -- but don't worry it's for ... - 17 views

Would you volunteer to be part of a study like this? Why or why not?
  • ...18 more comments...
  •
If I didn't have sports to play and could watch an artist I enjoy for free I would participate in a study like this. The reason being I'm healthy and all of my friends who have gotten the virus said it felt like a cold. (I know this isn't the case for all people of course)
  •
Yes, because i'm healthy and have a small chance of dying from the corona virus.
  •
I think I would try and avoid an experiment like this. Don't get me wrong, it sounds interesting and enjoyable but even if I could listen to a band I enjoy, there is always going to be a looming fear of me getting the virus. I wouldn't be able to focus on the music.
  •
I don't think I would consider being apart of experiments like this, mainly because I don't want to get it and maybe spread it to others who didn't even attend it, like my family or friends. It would just make me nervous, to be honest.
  •
I wouldn't try. because I don't wanna get Corona. or I don't wanna spread to people.
  •
I would volunteer because it's a free concert and it would help bring back more live events that would be safer and help us get back to normality plus I'm a healthy kid so I'm low risk.
  •
I would volunteer because its a free concert and I am very healthy and if I were to get it I would most likely recover from it and be fine.
  •
I would definitely volunteer to be apart of this study. I think we need to try and gain some normalcy back into our lives. Another reason I'd try this is because I'm very healthy and haven't been exposed to anything. With this study underway, we as people could see if this could be an effective way to get back to our lives
  •
I wouldn't volunteer because yes its a free concert, and yes I'm healthy so I'm at low risk but, I have lots a family members who are at high risk. Even if I'm fine and get it, those who are around me and are at high risk might not be in the long run. I rather stay safe for others.
  •
Ok so, this is like a 50/50 no I don't want corona but if I can help humanity to figure out more about this virus then i would do it hands down no questions asked.
  •
I would volunteer to do this study because I think it would be a cool opportunity to see where you can get COVID and where it is mostly at. I would absolutely volunteer just for the experience and to see what is around me and to see if we could actually use something other than masks.
  •
I think I would definitely participate in this study because I think society needs to try to get back to normalcy and try to figure out how to go back to times before covid.
  •
I would volunteer because I'm all for trying to get things back to normal. I think that corona has changed our lives enough, and I don't think we should have to live in fear of going in public without a mask.
  •
I would not volunteer because its dangerous enough trusting some masks material to protect you from spreading or receiving the virus. As nice as a free concert would sound, it would be too risky to make it as a test. If they used something other than humans (or easier to maintain animals) for testing, it could make tests less worrisome when post-results are gathered.
  •
I would do it because I know that I can't die from the virus, so I think it would be cool to find out how quickly it actually spreads and how many people are really effected by it
  •
I would volunteer because i think it would be fun to go to a concert also it would help get more information on covid and how to deal with it.
  •
I would not participate in this experiment because I would not put myself in a situation where I'm most susceptible to the potentially deadly virus.
  •
I would participate in this experiment because I could have fun while giving people more information about COVID 19.
  •
I would not put myself in this situation to do this while still a deadly sickness. I would not put myself in this if the risk is to die
  •
I would never do a study like this because I am at higher risk to get COVID and so are the people I live with, I wouldn't want to put them at risk for a concert I'm probably not going to remember in a few months.

Remembering the legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg - CBS News - 4 views

RBG death sets the stage for even more 2020 political drama. If you read other stories about the battle to fill her vacancy, pay attention and post to Diigo; we will certainly be discussing this in class.
  • ...2 more comments...
  •
RBG is someone to definitely look up to, I admire her perseverance to reach her goals for society. She deserves to be remembered as she wanted to be. Hopefully, as a society, we can all preach together what she fought so passionately for.
  •
RBG was a key aspect of women earning some very basic rights in this country and should be looked at as nothing less than a catalyst of equality. This vacancy does pose some concerns as to who will be appointed and whether or not Trump even holds the right to place someone on the court at this moment in time
  •
RGB was someone who fought for equal rights for women and the LGBT community and it seems scary for the future since she was one of the only ones stopping their rights being revoked. :( Her legacy and goals should be remembered and we should keep fighting for what she was working so hard for.
  •
RBG fought tooth and nail for equal rights for women and LGBT+. Her legacy is tremendous and she is for sure a very respected political figure. I think a lot of people are now scared about what is going to happen with her death and what it means as to who will fill her position. I know there are some people who are are saying that someone needs to be appointed right away, but her final wish was that her spot not be filled until after the election.
