"FireFly" spaceships to begin exploring asteroids in 2015 - 2 views

  •
Asteroid-mining company Deep Space Industries has just announced plans to launch a fleet of "FireFly" spacecraft as soon as 2015. Their mission? Find asteroids, rich with valuable metals, that could aid in humanity's colonization of space.
  •
I think it's really cool that they're taking the next step, and figuring out how they could possibly sustain life in space.
  •
It will be interesting to see if Deep Space succeeds in mining asteroids. I think it's a great idea, but I would like to know how long they project it will take to mine materials and bring them back to Earth.

NASA 'go' for its next giant leap into space - CNN.com - 15 views

  •
NASA is a government funded program. Are you excited that we are investing in space exploration or do you think this money could be better spent on solving problems here on Earth?

I think trying to voyage to Mars is a good idea because not all of Earth's resources will last forever and there is only so many other options to keep life as normal as possible without changing dramatically.
  •
A voyage to Mars is a huge step in science and I think that it is a great step. We could find resources there that are not on earth. Things that can change our world.
  •
I thing a trip to Mars is a good idea. This could get us closer to discovering what's out int he universe, while the thought is exciting it is also a little scary. I agree with the point that Logan made, we aren't going to have our reasources forever. At some point in time we are going to have to find a solution for other means of reasources.
  •
i think its a good idea because we can find new things and maybe the things will make the earth better
  •
I think it is a good idea, we can discover new things in the universe.
  •
An exploration to Mars is an amazing idea. The resources we have on Earth, won't last forever. And finding other ways that will help us survive is a great thing. It's a pretty big step in helping humans, and Earth itself.
  •
I think that this is a great idea. I think that exploring the unknown in the universe is very exciting and intriguing.
  •
I think that this is good because if people keep treating the world like they do eventually we will run out of resources and need more. Mars could possibly have new and better resources.
  •
I think that this is an amazing idea. I think that exploring and discovering the unknown of any part of the universe is very exciting and mysterious. II find it intriguing that we don't know everything that's out there, and how we keep discovering new things

I understand why people would want to ban allowing police to record someone's private conversation. Although it has helped with a lot of cases involving drugs there should be a limit on how far police can go. They shouldn't be able to listen to innocent people's conversations. It wrong and they wouldn't be able to unhear anything.

It's not just Facebook. Thousands of companies are spying on you (opinion) - CNN - 4 views

  •
"But for every article about Facebook's creepy stalker behavior, thousands of other companies are breathing a collective sigh of relief that it's Facebook and not them in the spotlight. Because while Facebook is one of the biggest players in this space, there are thousands of other companies that spy on and manipulate us for profit."

Fun fact: on Facebook, there's a place in the settings where you can actually see what it believes your interests to be, including what it thinks your stance is on American politics.
  •
I spoke to a friend who said that she woke up to an email saying her facebook information had been accessed and seen by a large number of other sources, outside of facebook. She said the cause of this was one of her facebook friends downloaded an app and all the friends of this person had gotten the same email about their information. It is just wrong how so many different companies are taking their users for advantage.
  •
I found this new information within the article to be very disturbing, and yet, there are some aspects that I'm not surprised about. I have already comprehended the fact that Google can track all of your searches and that causes ads to be related to your own interests but for media to constantly monitor my actions just from my phone? That's disturbing once you think and look into it.
  •
I was watching a video actually on Facebook and this couple heard about facebook stalking people so they decided to talk about cat food for 3 days with facebook open and offline then they opened it one day to cat food adds on their facebook which is really creepy to me.

Todd Akin, GOP Senate candidate: 'Legitimate rape' rarely causes pregnancy - 2 views

  •
This is really having some political fallout for Akin's comments even within his own party... http://politicalwire.com/archives/2012/08/22/ryan_called_akin_to_get_him_to_drop_race.html

I can only hope that he does drop out of the race. I don't believe that anyone as ignorant as he seems to be is fit to be a Senator. I would have hoped that if someone were a pro-life advocate they could at least take the time to understand the reproductive system. Not to mention that "legitimate rape" is possibly one of the most offensive things you could say when discussing this issue. Is he trying to imply that there is non-legitimate rape or does he just not realize what he's saying?
  •
From reading the article I feel as tho they did not get the most current and correct medical information about this subject. I also think candidate Romney is trying to back peddle and correct what he said in a earlier interview and he is not actually legitimately concern with this controversy.
  •
i agree with Mallory I really would not want someone that ignorant being in power of anything
  •
I don't think anyone ignorant and has no respect what so ever should have any power.
  •
This is something I've heard about for the last few days and I really wish I could tell this man how ignorant and stupid he sounds. Does he really think that's true, because if he does then there's obviously something wrong and he needs to get help.
  •
I just wanted to point out that Todd Akin is a member of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. Which I think makes his statement even more ridiculous.

Police hunt thief who stole ancient heart of Irish saint Laurence O'Toole - 8 views

  •
Irish police on Monday were searching for heart-stealer, with a twisted love of history. Officials at Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin said they're distraught and perplexed over the theft of the church's most precious relic: the preserved heart of St. Laurence O'Toole, patron saint of Dublin.

What they should have done was put it in a vault to keep it from getting stole, unless it is with a priest from the church.

I hear space pirates are rampant this year.

I would steal that if I had the opportunity.

Clerk in Kentucky Chooses Jail Over Deal on Same-Sex Marriage - 17 views

  •
ASHLAND, Ky. - A Kentucky county clerk who has become a symbol of religious opposition to same-sex marriage was jailed Thursday after defying a federal court order to issue licenses to gay couples.

When the law was passed for gay marriage in the U.S. she should have gotten a new job or something. It is her job to give people marriage licenses. It is outrageous that she would refuse and its not fair to those couples.
  •
That law was passed for a reason. If she doesn't agree with it then she should get a different job.
  •
Regardless of your opinion on same sex marriage a law is a law and you must follow it. Especially if you are the one dealing with the law
  •
Some people have strong opinions over different things and that freedom to believe in what we want is our right, here in the United States. However, her belief clashes with her job so if her beliefs are really that important than she should have found a different job where they didn't conflict.
  •
I understand the people have opinions the go against same sex marriage and that totally okay. She has the right to express her opinion but when it interferes with her job she cant discriminate. Now that same sex marriage is legal, I'm sure there are many people upset about it but they cant let that effect how they preform in the work space. Especially if you could go to jail over it.
  •
She had no right to do that, they were not braking a law. Also everyone has there own opinions on same-sex marriage, so if she had a problem with it then she should have kept it to herself, it is her job if she doesn't like it then she should find a new job.
  •
I think everyone is initiated to there own opinion on the subject. It is her job though so if she doesn't like it then she could always find a new one. I like how she is being civil about it though.
  •
same here, even though I feel that I feel this is wrong he made a choice, it won't change much though.
  •
    good for her
  •
I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it is your job. Depending on the job you get, some consequences for refusing to do your job can vary. As a government worker she had to face the consequences. However, I think she could have easily just found another job that wouldn't interfere with her views.

Good discussion on this topic so far!

Obama commutes 61 prison sentences - CNNPolitics.com - 3 views

  •
"President Barack Obama commuted the prison sentences of 61 people who were serving time for drug offenses, the White House announced Wednesday, furthering his push to reform what he sees as overzealous sentencing laws."
  •
I like this because there are people who are committing more serious crimes like rape, etc. and people are wasting spaces in the jail because of their drug offenses that could of been minor and didn't involve violence or anything.
