2018 NRA annual meeting: Guns will be banned during Mike Pence speech. Parkland student... - 6 views

  •
"The National Rifle Association has championed the idea of "a good guy with a gun," but no firearms will be allowed when Vice President Pence speaks at its annual meeting - sparking criticism from Parkland, Fla., students, who say schools should be afforded the same protection."

This event does seem very hypocritical. This is pretty much saying government officials need to be safe, but schools do not.
  •
"As a result, firearms and firearm accessories, knives or weapons of any kind will be prohibited in the forum prior to and during his attendance," I find this event to be extremely hypocritical. It is basically a slap in the faces of all the Parkland victims. Why are they, and other citizens, not being treated with the safety precautions that politicians are. I find this very offensive for Pence to do this.
  •
Agreeing with rtanner112, it is hypocritical and very ironic. It seems like the "higher up" only care about themselves, and not the common people.
  •
I understand why they wouldn't want guns, just because it is a political event and it is for the protection of the vice president. However, it does seem hypocritical that they're pro-gun when they're in the right hands, yet won't let their members carry them at the meeting.
  •
I don't understand why schools be afforded the same protections the VP was allowed. Where is the difference between the two? He doesn't want to put his life at danger, so why are school students forced to?

Chicago mayor to Ted Cruz over city shootings: 'Keep our name out of your mouth' - CNNP... - 9 views

"Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot ripped Texas Sen. Ted Cruz over his opposition to gun legislation reform after he claimed such laws don't work, pointing to gun violence in Chicago. Lightfoot, a Democrat, claimed in a tweet that 60% of illegal firearms recovered in Chicago come from outside of Illinois, "mostly from states dominated by coward Republicans like you who refuse to enact commonsense gun legislation.""

Closer to 30 killed in school shooting - 1 views

  •
I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. We are talking about the preamble in government and what our nation should do to form a more perfect union, but yet some stranger for no parent reason goes and shoots little kids at a ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. What a perfect union we have.

People are disgusting. The United States leads the world in number of school shootings, ( http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0777958.html ). I think we need to focus on mental health more, starting when children are in school. People don't become murderers overnight, or even in a few days.
  •
From what I have heard it is possible that the shooter has suffered from mental illness though out his life. I think what we need to focus on is how these people are getting their hands on guns if they have mental illness or are criminals. In the last four years we have had 20 of the 26 mass shootings. Something has to change. It's not just being able to get guns though. It also has to do with how we as a country view guns. How many of the new movies this year have had some kind of gun violence? How many times in movies are we shown people solving problems by using guns?
  •
There will be a lot to talk about with this tragedy. Here is a link to a page with all the CNN school shooting links in one spot: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/us/connecticut-school-shooting/index.html?hpt=hp_inthenews
  •
I think this was a horrible thing cuz its almost christmas and those kids that saw this and are still alive are going to remember this the rest of there lives.
  •
This is very tragic to hear and many people are dealing with the losses of the children or relatives. Sometimes it make me wonder why we have an amendment the right to bear arms if things like this are happening. These were innocent kids with a bright future ahead. It was very devastating for everyone around the U.S to know things like this are happening in our society.
  •
This is an article that I found that talks more about how to prepare for future shooting while also talking about this shooting. http://news.msn.com/us/analysis-how-prepared-can-we-be-for-possible-future-shootings

Obama on gun control: His emotional evolution - CNNPolitics.com - 4 views

  •
Watch CNN's "Guns in America" townhall with President Obama at 8 p.m. ET Thursday But on one issue -- guns -- President Barack Obama lets the public mask slip, revealing the ire boiling within.

I feel that if Obama really had all these emotions and is wanting these "shooting sprees" in America to stop, there needs to be something done about it. I understand that we have the right to bare arms, and not everyone will follow the laws made to make things more safe, but implimenting things in schools like metal detectors, or by having it required that parents kept guns locked up would help more with this situation.
  •
I agree with you but its like if he feels or thinks about these shooting you would think that he would want it to and that he needs to do something about it instead of not doing anything.
  •
i agree. Obama had and has a lot of feeling about this subject. we need to do something about it

We need real gun control so stuff like this doesn't happen as often, he bought guns himself! They need to increase the age on getting a gun, many background checks even mental history before giving a "broken" child a gun. This is a real issue.
  •
US government should think about gun control seriously, we should not have this accident any more.
  •
At the end of this article they called Cruz a "broken child" and I do not like when people refer to him as that because I feel as if they use that as a way of trying to justify what he did which is wrong to me.

U.S. requires group to remove 3-D gun instructions from its website - CNN.com - 0 views

At issue was whether Wilson had violated International Traffic in Arms Regulations by posting files on his website allowing users to download and print firearms with 3-D printing technology.

i think they should remove it cause this would make it a lot easier for minors to get guns and use them for unnecessary reasons
  •

Trump Vows to Remove Millions Living in Country Illegally - 9 views

  •
PHOENIX - Seeking to end confusion over his aggressive but recently muddled language on immigration, Donald Trump vowed Wednesday to remove millions of people living in the country illegally if he becomes president, warning that failure to do so would jeopardize the "well-being of the American people."
  • ...4 more comments...
  •
I feel like Trump is like a cyber bully in the fact that when he isn't face to face with Nieto he will say whatever he wants. But when confronted he is mild mannered, unlike when he is on TV giving speeches.
  •
What if foreigners need a place to stay, he can't just kick them out and accept no immigration, and avoid the question, "What about those who haven't committed crimes?" Well maybe if some foreigners have committed crimes, but not all of the crimes were that bad, and what if the immigrants are desperate, or need something, or again, a place.
  •
Trump wants to remove millions of illegals, but like the passage says what would he do with the ones the haven't committed a crime? The ones that have done crime should be removed, but the ones that haven't should continue living here.
  •
Trump said in his own words that when he becomes president he wants to exile the millions of illegal immigrants from the US and that if this succeeds he would change the world completely. Any illegal immigrants that are arrested will be deported as well.
  •
Trump said "We agreed on the importance of ending the illegal flow of drugs, cash, guns and people across our border and to put the cartels out of business," not all Hispanics bring drugs, cash, and guns across the border. Some come to America to get away from their country because we have more freedom. Kicking all of them out just doesn't seem fair. Also making Mexico pay for the wall isn't fair either. If America wants the wall then they should pay for it. When you go shopping and you want a shirt you don't make your friend or the cashier pay for it.
  •
"We agreed on the importance of ending the illegal flow of drugs, cash, guns and people across our border and to put the cartels out of business," (Trump). He acts and speaks as if every single foreigner brings trouble when they come, and he's wrong. Yes, there are those that cause trouble with guns, drugs, and money- but not every single one of them. He wants to deport all of foreigners who have "overstayed" their visa, even if they have caused no trouble or harm whatsoever.

School asks deaf preschooler to change his sign language name - 3 views

  •
Sometimes it seems when rules are too rigidly enforced, silly situations like this make me wonder, - maybe re-word the rule rather than asking a person to change their name...
  • ...8 more comments...
  •
asking a little kid 2 change his name is ridiculous. the boy has a right 2 his own name just like any person does
  •
I think asking a young child to change his name just because they think it looks like a gun when its simply his hand sign to represent his name is ridiculous. It is an actual sign to represent his name and is no way a threat to the other children or staff. Kids that little don't even think of things as weapons like that.
  •
that is crazy that they would ask him to change his name just because of a school rule
  •
that is stupid that a school ask a family just to change the kids name just because of a rule, even though the sign is approved by the S.E.E. And the school also does not have the right to ask the parents to change the kids name when it is the parents right to name their own kid.
  •
I personally think the the school is being ridiculous. He's just a kid, he's not gonna know what a gun is.
  •
That's his name, his identity. They have no right to tell him to change it. He's a child and I see no problem with him and his name sign when it's registered and causing no legitimate harm.
  •
This rule seem very unfair. He has already been saying his name this way for three years. He has no other way to communicate, he can only use his hands. Which i think is ridiculous, they don't make hearing (i don't know how else you would describe them) people change how they say their name. It also doesn't seem to represent a gun in any way, in my thoughts, so it should be fine.
  •
I also find it to be unfair because it's his name, so he shouldn't have to learn or make a new name.
  •
I agree with th Grand Island resident Fredda Bartenback, what little kid would think some harmless sign would be a gun?
  •
He uses the sign language sign for hunter, as in a person who goes out and hunts. He turned it into his name sign by crossing his fingers instead of leaving them flat. While I agree that the school over reacted and he shouldn't have to change it, I think the idea of him "Having to change his name," is a little bit of of a loaded statement. His name will still be Hunter if he changes his name sign it will just be expressed differently. Also according to my mom, who works very closely with many deaf people every day, he may choose to change it later in life once he gets older because this name sign was chosen by his parents and he might not like it.

What exactly is an assault rifle anyways? - 2 views

This article really highlights the need for better definitions of firearms. I think the vague definition and vague proposals for gun control laws are inhibiting any reform. Gun owners protest because the proposals are broad, and the people who want reform don't understand firearms enough to write a clear law.
  •
I don't understand why people who use their guns correctly get punished for other people's stupidity.

  •
i think it wont make a difference if america band guns or not, people will always find a way and when you take the guns away you'll be left vulnerable to robberies.
  •
i thin k the nar needs to stop making everyone an enemy so they can focus on how to get firearms still legal
  •
And I thought the NRA was crazy when their phone calls started with "I'm so-and-so, and I'm a gun-totin' Texan." Their list is both foolish and callous. Adding the American Trauma Society to their list? The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence? It almost seems like the NRA wants an increase in violent crimes, if you look at their list. Possibly an increase in violent crimes against women, as it looks like they've included every women's association in the US.
