El canal Segarra-Garrigues és una de les més importants infraestructures de Catalunya actualment en construcció. L'article analitza el retorn a la societat d'aquesta infraestructura. Alhora aborda algun dels aspectes controvertits del projecte, en particular l'afectació de la superfície de regadiu per àrees catalogades com a zona d'especial protecció per a les aus (ZEPA), les quals poden generar serioses dificultats a la viabilitat del conjunt del projecte o provocar que es deixi sense regar el 36 % de la superfície prevista.
