Article talked about the many advantage that music has over a person's personality and behaviors. Some of the examples were "Studying music encourages self-discipline and diligence, traits that carry over into intellectual pursuits and that lead to effective study and work habits". Also other examples how music encouraged a community and brought groups together. It then went on the explain the health benefits of music therapy which will be great to use in my paper when I am explaining the benefits music therapy could have on other countries where actual medicine is not easily accessible.

Music is a way to let children experience learning in a different way. This was a study that compared athletes and non-athletes at highly selective colleges. First, it compares conclusions people have come to about student-athletes. On one hand, some believe that athletics help to develop the person in a wide variety of ways. On the other hand, some believe it takes up too much time and takes away from their academics. This study basically shows that it varies from person to person, depending on the particular school they attend.

This was a study done to determine the effect an increase in minimum admission standards would have on student-athletes. This was done for a few reasons, but primarily to increase the graduation rates of athletes. It also shows that because of the increase in admission standards, more athletes began transferring from division two schools. The proposition required a higher GPA and standardized test scores from high school athletes in order to play college athletics. The graduation rates, beginning at 52%, increased annually for many years.

A study was conducted using the graduation rates of college student athletes in order to determine their legitimacy. Researchers concluded that graduation rates alone cannot account for the lower rates among athletes. They say that there are numerous factors that affect this, including admissions standards and wealth of the institution. The study also discusses the relationship between admissions and educational attainment. The study concludes with hopefully providing a model that promotes both academic and athletic excellence.

Described is a study where a class of 8th graders received PDAs. The study was to see how the incorporation of technology affected to students academic performance. The mix of books and technology was to see which way of teaching is more efficient. Since kids grew up with technology it was an easy transition for them to use the PDAs.

Research was done on kids habits of instant messaging and the effects it had on their normal or traditional way of reading and writing. Kids that instant messaged wrote less than kids that did not instant message. A good point was made about how instant messaging is just like writing normal words but leaving out vowels and just using letters that make sounds similar to the words they are tying to write. Technology has given the use for more opportunities involving text messaging and instant messaging.

The causes and effects of texting for young kids is debated in this article. At a young age kids are more prone to text and be more technologically savvy. However, their literacy is effected by the amount of texting they do. Children that text less write more. Therefore, children that text more, write less and are less involved in their writing abilities. I will use this information in describing the effects of texting at young ages.

The article mentions that because kids are so involved in texting and instant messaging, teachers are coming up with new ways of explaining topics so kids understand it better. Texting and instant messaging have great impacts on our learning.

The outcome was to find out how technology effected academic achievement in the designated age groups. I will use this information in putting together a side of how kids are impacted (positively or negatively) by technology.

The world is becoming more digitally based and the integration of technology is just getting started. The use of technology can greatly change the way we read and write and those effects are positive and negative.
