This article discusses the connection between intelligence and artistic ability. It is essentially an overview of psychological studies investigating the same topic. The study involved various IQ tests and analysis of artistic ability. The studies were conducted at several schools of varying age groups. Bottorf examines the results and how they prove and disprove that the two areas are related.

This article was a study was about childhood cancer survivors in Sweden. It gives statistics about what type of education the survivors acquired and then how many of them were employed. The article then discusses how much each of the survivors is making working in their profession and how their schooling was a direct affect on that number.

Byrne, Angela, John MacDonald, and Sue Buckley. "Reading, language and memory skills: A comparative longitudinal study of children with Down syndrome and their mainstream peers." British Journal of Educational Psychology 72.4 (2002), 513-529. This article shares that in the past, people with Down Syndrome have never had the chance to learn to read. Now, many kids with this disablilty are able to get in education, which led to a study. This is a study done on the development of people with Down Syndrome over a period of time. The article shares information on longituninal study that tested the development of reading, language, and memory skills. The article concludes that reading has no effect on the enhancement of language and memory development in children with Down Syndrome.

They concluded that media exposure of alcohol increases the likelihood adolescents will drink.

This website has many studied and information involving the computer use of the elderly and thier opinions of computers in comparisoin with other age classes. It has a study that says that the outlooks of computers from the perspective of the elderly aren't very different at all from the perspective of a young adult. It shines a new light on the age old thought that senior citizens do not like computers, they may just not know how to use them.

A study to be released today by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum [cites] improvements in a range of literacy skills among students who took part in a program in which the Guggenheim sends artists into schools. The study, now in its second year, interviewed hundreds of New York City third graders, some of whom had participated in the Guggenheim program, called Learning Through Art, and others who did not.\n\n

It discusses how although a student usually isn't drinking while doing their school work, the hangovers that occur after drinking cause alot of the problems. It also touches about the effects alcohol has on a college student's health, for example drinking causes weight gain. The final topic the article discusses is how alcohol creates a major distraction and causes students to focus less on school.

Autistic people have memory and learning impairments, but recently researchers have studied how implicit learning in ASD is affected as well. ASD stands for Autism Spectrum Disorder, which includes social, motor, and communicative impairments. Implicit learning is the developing of a skill or information without consciousness to what was learned. Neurocognitive (thought) studies, and implicit cognition (unconcious influences such as knowledge) studies have received less attention. Studies have shown that children with Asberger's syndrome have better cognitive abilities that children with normal autism. Autistic children are more likely to forget the skills they have learned over the long term, but can use the results of implicit learning over a long period of time. ASD children compared to controlled show similar learning patterns in specific and general skill learning.

BMC Public Health 10.(2010): 314-325. Academic Search Complete. EBSCO. Web. 15 Nov. 2010. Although this article's data is taken from China, the data is also relevant here. A study was taken from both men and women and their body mass index. After the study the scientists reviewed that most of the adolescents scored very high in having problems or disorders. I can only conclude that here in the United States that we would have an even bigger problem than China.

Even though many studies have shown the long-term effects of childhood abuse on mental health in adulthood, not many have actually proven this to be true. Low-income black and Hispanic low-income women with children living in major cities in the U.S. were studied and no concrete signs of physical assault were shown in relation to their low self-esteem.

This article is about first year college students going to writing programs to better on their first papers. Studies have shown that tutor strategies are more effective during first year of college. These studies also show that tutor's transfer their teaching skills to their peers. This study was done with an education yet personal role throughout all tutors in the case study.

"Adolescent Exposure to Alcohol Advertising in Magazines: An Evaluation of Advertising Placement in Relation to Underage Youth Readership." Journal of Adolescent Health 45.6 (2009): 626-33. In this study, it was proposed that the alcoholic drinks that are most often consumed by minors, are often put in magazines as advertisements that underage men and women are most likely to read. The study took place between 2002-06 and the results were not friendly. It was obvious after the study concluded, alcoholic drinks popular to minors were frequently put in the magazines with higher youth readership. Alcohol companies are focusing their ads to seek out the younger crowd through the popular magazines they choose to read. Although just an abstract, it will make a good reference on studies that have gained valuable research.

Web. 22 Nov. 2010. College students are at risk for overweight/obesity. It was hypothesized that better nutrition and physical activity would be related to healthy environmental perceptions and personal beliefs.Sixty-five percent of American adults are overweight. The greatest increases in overweight and obesity occur in persons between 18-29 years of age.Eating habits are also a problem in both the general population as well as among college students. Only 28% of persons over the age of two are meeting daily recommendations for fruit intake and even fewer 3% are meeting daily recommendations for vegetable intake. College students often exceed the recommended daily limit for saturated fat intake. A study by Racette found that more than half the students in their sample reported eating high-fat fried or fast foods at least three times per week.

The idea of media literacy prompts an increasingly divisive debate between educators who wish to protect children from the commercialization of global markets and those who challenge critical media studies as misguided, outdated, and ineffective. We have provided a historical overview of changing conceptions of media literacy as preparation and protection in market society, arguing that contemporary concerns about children's fast food marketing and sedentary lifestyles call for new approaches to the education of citizen-consumers in a risk society. Our case study demonstrates that a media education programme can provide scaffolding for children's critical thinking about their sedentary lifestyles and media consumption. Web. 19 Nov. 2010. This article is about whether or not there is a connection between textisms and the quality of writing. There has been an overwhelming increase in the use of text messaging, and in some cases young adults use messages more than talking. Two studies were performed trying to determine if there is a relationship, because not much research has been completed. On top of that most of the research has yielded different results. These two studies did not see a connection between the use of textisms and formal writing, but it did between the use of textisms and informal writing.

This article discribes the transition from high school to college. More specifically it discusses the transition for the women. There was a study that followed women in theirlast months of high school into their first few months of college. This study recorded the effects and emotions of the women as they readjusted to the college life.\n

Gurari, Inbal, John J. Hetts, and Michael J Strube. "Beauty in the "I" of the Beholder: Effects of Idealized Media Portrayals on Implicit Self-Image." This article discusses the results found in a study of people about how they feel about their self images. It shows that there is a difference between how the subjects reacted and they are measured with explicit reactions and implicit reactions. Both of these styles of reactions show similar results as previous studies showing that the level of beauty stressed in media caused children, especially girls to have a lower self esteem and makes them have more emphasis of their own personal appearance.

Article talked about the many advantage that music has over a person's personality and behaviors. Some of the examples were "Studying music encourages self-discipline and diligence, traits that carry over into intellectual pursuits and that lead to effective study and work habits". Also other examples how music encouraged a community and brought groups together. It then went on the explain the health benefits of music therapy which will be great to use in my paper when I am explaining the benefits music therapy could have on other countries where actual medicine is not easily accessible.
