A study was performed that evaluated the effects of sending text messages and using the Internet right before bedtime on children. The researchers at the Sleep Disorders Center at JFK Medical Center in Edison, N.J found that the use of these technologies right before bed can have negative effects on kids' sleeping patterns. These then impact their daytime functioning and psychological health. This lack of sleep results in poor cognitive functioning and disorders such as ADHD. The amount of texting and online use before bed should be limited and monitored by parents.

At a young age kids are more prone to text and be more technologically savvy. However, their literacy is effected by the amount of texting they do. Children that text less write more. Therefore, children that text more, write less and are less involved in their writing abilities. I will use this information in describing the effects of texting at young ages.

Instead of marketing through television its in everyday life. When alcohol discounts are viewed adolescents are more likely to drink and drink a lot more.

It talks about how alcohol causes cognitive impairment, students to miss class, and also not do their work. The article also talks about the correlation between the activities a student is involved in and the amount of alcohol a student consumes.

This article is about the cognitive effects high-risk drinking has on college students. It explains how underage alcohol use is connected to brain damage and neurocognitive deficits, with implications for learning and intellectual development.

ERIC. EBSCO. Web. 18 Nov. 2010. The article deals with the relationship of severe child sexual abuse and mental health symptoms during the adult years. Respondants of the survey taken showed that in the thirties and fourties that if they were attacked by more than one abuser and did not discuss their abuse within one year of the attack they had a greater number of mental health symptoms. The clients who are at higher risk of mental health symptoms should be assessed by professionals.

This article is about tutoring those who are having literacy troubles in reading and writing. This shows statistics between fourth, seventh, tenth, and college students on their reading and writing skills. It shows that peer tutoring can improve everyone's overall grades and gpa's. The two tests between what students were tutored and who weren't show the difference. The effects were clearcut.

Kasari, Connie, et al. "Parental Perspectives on Inclusion: Effects of Autism and Down Syndrome." Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders 29.4 (1999), 297-305. Using the child's diagnosis, age, and current educational placement, a study was done to observe the effects of these factors on parent's perceptions of inclusion for their child with disabilities. Parents in the study filled out surveys asking questions on how they felt about their childs current educational situation and views on inclusive programs. The studies showed clear results. Parents of patients with Down syndrome showed a significant difference in support of inclusive programs over parents of children with autism. Age also played a role.

Though peer tutors have their own learning method, they take what the tutee is good at and combine it with their own way of learning. Thus having more of an effective learning style than in the classroom. This article also states that peer tutoring at all ages is effective and can only benefit the students. Tutors can help determine new learning methods for the tutees.

The program offers life skills assistance to student-athletes. In addition, the program offers a sports nutritionist who is an educator, counselor, and administrator for the athletes. This provides athletes with accurate information on healthy eating behaviors for optimal performance. Furthermore, the program offers a multidisciplinary team to prevent and treat eating disorders.

Web. 18 Nov. 2010. Developmental effects in relation to traumatic life like sexual abuse will not affect all people attacked. Twelve out of forty-five respondants that experienced abuse before the age of 22 said that their life was affected in a positive way. People exposed to abuse showed more adversity in adulthood rather than those who were not exposed. More studies are needed to underst8and the true complexity of the situation.

This book is about programs created to help students and their learning. The programs have been reinvented in order to help prepare students. The programs are also useful to help students become better with their literacy. The book also discusses 25 specific schools who are trying to improve there teaching skills. It focuses in on the teacher techniques and credibility. It is split into two sections, discussing the key characteristics of successful English and also field research like the types we will be using for this paper.

By putting out flyers, signs, table tents, and numerous other things, these experimenters searched to find the link between these short term items next to healthy food items. They found that after having these out that college students tended to go to the more healthy options when they actually realized what they were. They concluded that not only did this short term effect work but that the college students did not know what their healthy options were and therefore were happy to be notified.

Coming out of the experiment students claimed to know more about nutrition and that having a graduate student as their teacher helped them learn. They said this because of their image and likeness to them. The outcome of this experience was a greater understanding of nutrition and advance in this field.

The effects technology has on younger kids is described in this article. Research was conducted to determine if younger kids were impacted and exactly how they were impacted. The outcome was to find out how technology effected academic achievement in the designated age groups. I will use this information in putting together a side of how kids are impacted (positively or negatively) by technology.

This article discusses the results found in a study of people about how they feel about their self images. It shows that there is a difference between how the subjects reacted and they are measured with explicit reactions and implicit reactions. Both of these styles of reactions show similar results as previous studies showing that the level of beauty stressed in media caused children, especially girls to have a lower self esteem and makes them have more emphasis of their own personal appearance.

The text both agrees with and opposes the idea that adul tchildren of alcoholics are a distinct group. Two-hundred college students were placed into one of the four categories: Adult Children of Alcoholics, Adverse Childhood Event Group, Alcohol and Adverse Childhood Event Group and the No Adverse Event Group. These students completed tests that measured drug and alcohol use.
