Creative Web Tools For and By Kids is a project designed for students, ages 9 to 14, to use emerging technologies for engaging, thinking, learning, collaborating, creating, and innovating. The focus is on the use of free, open-source, or minimal cost tools, so the project can be replicated. An underlying goal is to demonstrate how advanced technological applications for enhancing learning can be implemented with only a computer and Internet access.

"We use many Web 2.0 tools to help students with the research process. Some tools are selected to make the research process more transparent and to allow us to give feedback during the process. Some are used to help students keep track of sources. I've listed them and the way we use them below. I've tried to give a brief description. It may seem like a lot of tools but we tend to believe that one size doesn't fit all and the overarching skills supersede the tool itself."

Last year, we created a long list of great Web 2.0 tools that we thought would be helpful for college students.But given how fast things develop on the web, we thought we would revisit this topic again this year and look at some of the most useful Web 2.0 tools that have the potential to help students do better in school, collaborate with their fellow students, and save them time.

"Tiki-Toki is an excellent web tool for creating beautiful timelines to use in your class. We have already featured this tool in several posts in the past but today we are revisiting it again as it has a very good feature added to it which allow you to view your timelines in 3D. With this new update, teachers will be able to create timelines that can be viewed in 3D format."

"I love it when I find a new app or extension that does something cool. Whether it's a new function, a more efficient workflow, or it will block spoilers for Star Wars, a good extension is a powerful tool. As I often write about, there's not enough time in education to waste, so I'm particularly fond of the tools that help save clicks and make our work more effective, both for students and teachers.
