i like the sounds and music on the games. this is for elementary and maybe middle school.

I played Wizards and Pigs all the way thru and thought the music got a little intrusive, just my opinion. It would be nice to be able to turn it off and on at will. W&P did provide a rich interactive environment, I'll give it that.

Tornado Simulator allows user to adjust width of tornado and pressure difference then run the simulation and determine the category of the twister.

This is an interactive site for elementary and middle school kiddos. The games are quite engaging and make learning math a lot of fun.

what's really 'cool' about this site is the use of word problems which are often difficult for someto grasp the understanding of completing such a problem.

Although not a free site, Zoodles has a great deal of interactive games for the various primary school age subjects. My 10-year-old enjoyed the free trial so we're considering purchasing a membership for 1 year. Subjects include reading, math, science, and writing.

This is a fantastic web-based game for ages 11+ to understand urban planning, neighborhood dynamics, and diversity. Players are one of 12 characters in Boston's Chinatown, navigating the city and trying to find a place to live, a livelihood, recreation, and cultural expression. The game helps learners develop a broader view of all the factors that form community and how different communities interact with each other and larger social forces. This an interactive crossword puzzle about outer space, specifically stars and planets.

This is a free simulation game for 12+ where learners are able to virtually "live" the lives of someone across the globe. They make choices and face circumstances faced by people in those parts of the world, choice available jobs, battle diseases, navigate unstable political terrain. The program is based on all current data from the United Nations, World Health Organization, and other international aid organizations and links with Google maps as well. This game would be useful for middle school or high school world cultures or politics courses, and also in different enrichment or afterschool activities. This is a game-based learning initiative by NASA. The site links to numerous related and supplementary resources. The game is downloadable (free) but unfortunately PC-only. This game is set up by the UN World Food Program and touts itself as the first humanitarian video game. Available on MAC and PC platforms and is available in several different languages, but unfortunately not Spanish. From the website "Set on a fictitious island called Sheylan riven by drought and war, Food Force invites children to complete six virtual missions that reflect real-life obstacles faced by WFP in its emergency responses both to the tsunami and other hunger crises around the world."

This is geared toward Middle to High School Students. You download the game where players have to pilot helicopters, airdrop food to camps, negotiate with rebels. This is a free game to help players realize all the obstacles in helping others in third world countries

This game has the player taking on different roles to learn about what kind of planet humans need to survive. There's a cute little ferret that talks you through the different training modules and missions. It's a great place to learn about our planet and what makes it habitable.
