  • Diigo To Launch Webslides for RSS Feeds and Bookmarks at TechCrunch40 Research toolbox, diigo is going to introduce Webslides for RSS Feeds and Bookmarks at TechCrunch40 next week in San Francisco. The new Webslides widget is an embeddable player that presents feeds or bookmarks as live web pages in an interactive slideshow format – complete with the full content, pages, links, comments, and ads. It can be sent to friends and colleagues and also placed on websites, blogs and in social networks. Each slide that is displayed actually registers as a page view for the content owner. Webslides also adds a new layer to the web by allowing any Diigo user to annotate each page on the fly with sticky notes to share thoughts or to highlight important sections. Viewers can also bookmark, tag, share, and clip content from the pages in WebSlides for future reference in their own Diigo online folders. To create WebSlides, users simply enter a feed or list of bookmarks and add background music or voice narration. "We're adding social components that connect people with knowledge and knowledge to people," Maggie Tsai, vice president of marketing at Diigo, told . RSS feeds and tags can be converted into a Diigo Web slide and the service will let you search for people with similar interests based on their Web site collections. Web slides and online discussion groups can be public, limited to a specific group or totally private based on user preference.

  • Denise Olson from Family Matters and Moultrie Creek commented about her Genealogy Research Resources at Diigo.  I finally visited, registered at Diigo, and joined Denise's group.  Once I joined, I was amazed at all of the resource links Denise has accumulated.  As of this morning, there are 624 bookmarks and usually multiple links within each bookmark.  It's too early in the morning, and I haven't had enough coffee, to focus enough and count all the links, but take my word for it - there are lots. 
  • All of the bookmarks are tagged by general subject so it's easy to find the your area of interest.  The best part of Diigo and the Genealogy Research Resources group is it's a collaborative environment - if you have some unique resource links you can add them to the group so everyone can make use of them.  I think this is an incredible site, and Denise has put great effort into creating and adding most of the current links.

  • The service has also added a recommendation engine. Since users are constantly saving and tagging web content, Diigo has a huge database of web pages that may feature similar content. So if you like pages about Windows freeware, Diigo probably knows that and when you click on the recommendations feed you should be able to find pages that you'll like.

  • DIIIIIIIIGO!!! With the power of Diigo I can surf the web pages and not only bookmark pages I find interesting and relevant but I can also highlight and add sticky notes of comments that I and other members of the Diigo Community can easily access and discuss. This adds more steroids to the standard web bookmarking technique. Instead of having a huge list of bookmarks which i cannot remember what they are anymore I can ad tags, make sub-categories and share with other members with my same interest. Plus, it has a beautiful name… DIIIIIIIIIIIGOOOO! If only a computer can echo so all my imaginary friends online can hear it.

  • What does this tool do: It is (still) most valuable as a tool to save and organize your bookmarks, so you will never lose or forget a saved-site again. But the latest upgrade adds much greater depth to previous versions.
  • To call Diigo just a bookmark organizer is like calling Ella just a singer. But the truth is that your first and most obvious value will come from Diigo’s ability to store and search out your lost bookmarks like no other free program available. You can also highlight and file short sentences within a URL without saving the entire site. Plus you can search text as well as tags and easily forward your best links on to your friends. If you want additional layers of social networking, note taking, and added research ability, this tool satisfies. But you should plan on a gradual ramp up to proficiency. In order to take full advantage of Diigo, it will take some effort to make it sing for you…but in the meantime, it can sure hum.

  • Diigois first and foremost a bookmarking service but one with more than one twists. Not only can you bookmark pages, sections but you can add private or public annotations (on top of the highlighted copied content) and add sticky notes too. You can export your bookmarks, import from your browser or deli.icio.us (I wish there were more options here) but Diigo has yet to offer an optml import option. You can also subscribe to other members feeds or specific tags. Recently they’ve added this blogging feature. I appreciate remote blogging. It saves times and you can update more frequently.

  • Another tool that helps me is Diigo (pronounced “dee-go”). It’s a social bookmarking site with abilities far beyond those of mortal bookmarkers
  • While viewing a web page — any web page — I can highlight content and also have it stored in my account. But I can also leave notes on that page. These notes can be for my eyes only, or I can make it to where anyone with Diigo who chooses to view anyone’s notes can view them. The purpose of these notes is for me to “mark” parts of a page like I would printed paper. Diigo says you can make notes on web pages for anyone who doesn’t have the toolbar installed. So, conceivably, you could point your visitors to other places and markup the content for further reading. Perhaps you’re commenting on an article that would make more sense to viewers if you could actually show them where on the page you’re talking about.

  • Adding a special tag to my discoveries (e.g., “articles”, “posts”, “to-write-about”…whatever) can make it easy for me to find them again, thus de-cluttering my browser’s bookmarks. So no more excuses about not knowing what to write about.
