By Nate Traylor IAAPA Each year, the movers and shakers from the attractions industry converge in Orlando to buy and sell the latest inventions that move and shake thrill seekers. Outrageous roller coasters have long been the stars of the show. Slowly but surely, that's changing. Waterpark attractions are drawing more and more attention with each year as engineers dream up ever more wild slides and imaginative water-based rides. This year's IAAPA Attractions Expo was no exception. Here are three of the show's most buzzworthy waterpark projects. Slidewheel Here's a concept that finally answers the question we've all secretly asked ourselves at one time or another: What if a ferris wheel and a waterslide mated? The Slidewheel comes from the German firm Wiegland.maelzer. Its compact design takes up less space than a conventional waterslide - ideal for waterparks with a small footprint or for properties that simply want to cram in another ride. According to reports, if one were to untangle the knot of tubes, it would be just as long as a traditional slide. And at three revolutions per minute, riders won't feel they're be

digital digs: the positive confluence of academia and the web - 5 views

  • Clearly one of the challenges academia faces is to figure out a productive use of networks in terms of research practices. Usually I write more about the teaching aspects of the university and clearly there are many ways universities will employ networks. But I want to think specifically about the use of the web for research with a few goals in mind: to enhance collaboration between academics to publish and share research to share knowledge with a broader audience (students, governments, industries, non-profits, the general public, and so on) One might say that these have been answered, but the real challenge is that as the web continues to evolve and now converge with other networks, the practices we have established need to change as well. That is, from the inception of the web, one could find the appearance of academic journals: genuine, rigorously reviewed, academic scholarship available freely online. There were (and are) listservs that might facilitate collaboration. Similarly individual faculty and faculty organizations built websites where they offered information, policy statements, and so on (NCTE or MLA for example in English Studies). But how are we moving forward?
  • Conventional academic discourse lies with journals and conferences. For all the advantages of these modes, neither offers an ongoing, dynamic interchange. Listservs offer that, but, in my experience anyway, they don't really create a productive, collaborative space. Sometimes there are debates on listservs; sometimes there is sharing of information (e.g. does anyone know a good article about x"?). But there isn't a sustained building of knowledge there. I suppose there could be, but there isn't, probably b/c we all go off to write our individually authored articles and conference presentations. In any case, the listserv is too large a community for collaborative work. Yes, tens of thousands contribute to Wikipedia, but they don't all work on the same article, right? So I don't know what the magic number is, but let's say I was looking for a dozen scholars in who were interested in the same things I'm interested in: mobile networks virtual worlds audio/video production public, collaborative learning It's unlikely that we would all work on the same research project at once, but there would be a handful of project undertaken by individuals or small groups. There would be a public face to the group and a private project management site, like Basecamp. The public face would offer a steady stream of information as we shared what we were doing, what was going on in our teaching, what we were reading and writing. We'd be assembling streams of information from our blogs, twitters, flickr, YouTube, and so on--wherever we were post information. The result is a collection of information that is hopefully useful groundwork for more formal investigation and also a mechanism for fruitful collaboration between our classes.
  • Meanwhile, in a more private space we might be orchestrating collaborative classroom projects and sharing research, drafts, and other media: constructing our scholarly work. When it's complete, we publish it in traditional venues and republish it on our public site as well.

How B2B retailers are using B2C strategies for growth? | Complete Connection - 0 views

  •
While all this is true, today B2B and B2C marketing strategies are slowly converging, thanks to the increased popularity of social media in influencing buyers' purchase decision, and better access to comprehensive consumer data. Like B2C marketing, B2B marketing is slowly moving into the digital realm that is dissolving all the boundaries between the two.
  •
B2B sales involves more people and longer timelines, and are often based on logic and need. B2C sales, on the other hand, are based on emotions of the consumers. Moreover, B2B sales are more customized while B2C sales are more about a product or service's benefits and features.

Parabolic Mirrors Manufacturer, Off Axis Parabolic Mirror - 1 views

  •
Hyperion Optics is a parabolic mirror manufacturer and offer custom parabolic mirrors for use from the UV(200 to 400nm) to the IR (1to 40µm) wavebands. Parabolic mirrors are typically designed as a segment of a larger parabola, manufactured from a metal substrate such as aluminum and coated in either enhanced aluminum, silver or gold as a standard. These mirrors focus light similar to a concave mirror with the significant exception being that the off-axis parabolic design redirects the incident light through 90%. Custom mirrors may be manufactured in a range of substrates and alternative coatings as required by our customer's specifications including UV and IR coatings and materials and alternative reflection angles. Every component is individually tested by our highly skilled technicians in our state of art metrology lab to ensure all parts meet our high-quality standards. For more information on our custom parabolic mirror capabilities, or to enquire after a custom quotation, please contact our technical sales team. Parabolic reflectors can be parallel to the optical axis of parallel light completely converged to the focus; the spherical aberration is zero. Parabolic mirrors are typically made as off-axis parabolic reflectors whose reflective surfaces are equivalent to a portion of the parent parabolic mirror. These sections retain the ability of the parent paraboloid to focus on a collimated parallel beam or collimated wide-point light source. Such an off-axis design separates the focus point from the beam path. Click here for more information about mirror designs. Hyperion Optics is a professional premium supplier. We provide Anamorphic Lenses, Collimating Lenses, hyp design, off axis parabola, off axis parabolic mirror and so on. Want to know more? Please contact us.
