WebSlides - Transforms Bookmarks Once Again - 0 views

  • WebSlides - Transforms Bookmarks Once Again
  • This innovation is a browser based player that displays live Web pages with integrated annotation, sticky notes and highlights in an interactive slideshow. With this cool tool users can record and narrate tracks as well as add background music to make compelling shows - and somewhat more. WebSlides is being presented at the Office 2.0 Conference as I write this, so we wanted you to have a look at this simple, innovative and useful tool as well.
  • Web 2.0 has to a large extent been about new ways of organizing and manipulating data. This is particularly true of bookmarks and other links. Innovative developments like Second Brain, Particls and others have pushed the envelope in creating useful and fascinating ways for organizing all types of links and data. Well, testing this little tool makes me wonder why someone did not think of this before (I - know just comment and tell us about your service too). WebSlides is like StumbleUpon in motion actually. It does not yet have the "resident" features of SU, but WebSlide creations saved or submitted to other services will exhibit a similar feel. So just when we thought StumbleUpon and a host of others had done everything with pages - along comes WebSlides. Here is a short list of things users might do with this service. Create guided tours of websites Display a list of houses or other products to clients Bundle education resources or research data Make shows of favorite places when visiting or traveling Create briefings or tutorials and tours on virtually any subject Present a whole series of news stories on a topic to digg or del.icio.us and others for scrutiny Interactively submit "collections" of stories and data
  • ...5 more annotations...
  • WebSlides is not yet available for testing so we could not get in depth information on the slide creation UI and other features. However, the demo presentations are fairly awesome in presenting selections with music. I can think of at least 10 other uses for this tool - one of which might be used to rate news stories in collections (with voting). If the developers continue to improve on the exceptional "in show" page functionality - then WebSlides will be quite something. This service is deceptively simple in appearance, but making web pages functional within a relatively interactive slide show is not a simple feature. I like WebSlides and look forward to testing the service and also seeing how it is enhanced in the coming months. Combined with Diigo's other services, this fascinating tool could go viral quickly in my estimation. Check it out and perhaps comment on your ideas for its uses.

  • This is brilliant. Next time you’re going to a meeting where you want to show a selection of websites. Don’t worry about collapsing them all, just create a slideshow out of them.

Social Bookmarking 2.0 - Diigo Sets The Standard for Others to Follow-- bub.blicio.us - 0 views

  • Diigo has released v 3.0 of its browser plugin and has set a new standard in social bookmarking in the process. It not only allows you to bookmark and save notes in an easy to retrieve place, it adds a new dimension to the Web itself by revealing, at the page level, the community of people who have also interacted with the content. It also feeds into a bigger community of content that builds a social network around relevant information. It combines research and community.
  • Starting simple: You can bookmark and annotate relevant things that you need to reference later. Using the Webslides function, you also can share these links as a slideshow, which actually appear as “live” web pages. The slideshow is embeddable on Web pages and in blogs. Revealing a new layer of the web: The new sidebar gives you quick access to your bookmarks as well your annotations on each Web page. It also shows you other diigo users who have annotated that page to give you additional perspective. The sidebar is searchable to find your notes quicker and easier. Connect and Engage: According to the company, you are what you annotate. Bookmarks, tags, and annotations are one of the best representations of your interests and expertise. At Diigo, you maintain a bookmarks page which is your hub to relevant content. You can also connect to like-minded people and also browse their activities as they relate to you.
  • In Diigo Groups, users can connect and collaborate on findings through group highlights, sticky notes, and bookmarks.

But it’s more than that. It also helps people connect around common interests and builds communities around topics and sites.

Other new community features allow you to send messages and bookmarks to each other.

There are also communities around sites that you can join that bring together people who have bookmarked pages from that site. In the video, they demonstrate a community around the New York Times. You can see and interact with the people who have contributed content and interact with them based on their notes and interests related to that particular site.

Diigo also connects people and related content. The service learns about you and your interests based on how you tag, save, share, etc. You can have recommended bookmarks provided to you, or even have Diigo present others who share the same interests as you.

The solitary act of reading now becomes social, fun, and productive.

Linden's Pensieve: Diigo: Paper-and-pen Mark-up Meets Web 2.0 - 0 views

  • Make way, Del.icio.us! Diigo is here, and it's changing the way people use and, in true Web 2.0 fashion, interact with the Internet.
  • If you like del.icio.us, you will love Diigo.I will not be the first to say it, but Diigo is like del.icio.us on steriods. Diigo bookmarks your favorite sites, uses tags to classify your bookmarks, allows you to make bookmarks private or public. It can even automatically post your latest saves to your blog.
  • Diigo also makes it more-than-easy to email a web site to a friend. I like Google Reader for the same reason, but Diigo out-shines even Google Reader. Highlight the text on a page that you want your friend to see and that text will be included when you email the page to them. Eliminates the "Huh? Why did she send me this link?" problem.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • But Diigo provides innovative ways to interact with web sites.Diigo lets you highlight text on a page and annotate it with sticky notes. As a PhD student in the 21st century, this innovation frees me from downloading and re-reading sites I use for my research on the internet. I use less paper and I save time.
  • I generally shy away from using any service that requires me to download a tool bar, but the Diigo tool bar earned its keep quickly. The tool bar not only provides quick access to your Diigo dashboard, bookmarks, lists, groups, and contacts, but also makes for easy bookmarking, highlighting, commenting, and sending.
  • It's been called a supercharged social networking tool, a cut above del.icio.us, and "Diigo" has even been used as a verb. Even though I know I haven't discovered all the features, it's changed the way I interact with web pages.

Diigo in the Classroom « Learning Literacy - 0 views

  • Before class on Tuesday, I have never heard of the program Diigo.  When Professor Wolf mentioned that, it was a way to annotate online documents right on the web page.  He also explained how it is interactive, that you can read other annotations posted by others and others can read yours.  At first, I didn’t see myself ever using this after this class.  I find it easier to read documents once they are printed out rather than right off the screen.  I cannot concentrate when the documents are on the screen and I feel better writing notes in the margins with a pen and highlighting.   After using Diigo on the readings for Thursday, I realized that I might be able to use this tool in a classroom with students.  I would not use it for anything lower than the fourth grade, but it would be a great tool to integrate into lessons.  For instance, a teacher could set up a group in Diigo and have the students all join an account. Then for different lessons, such as a science lesson on the layers of the earth, the teacher could use an article or web page that reinforces the lesson.  The students would then go in and read the article and comment using Diigo.    I think students would benefit from this activity for several different reasons.  I think the fact that it is on the computer they would find it fun and different from reading out of a textbook and answer questions.  I also think that since it is interactive, the students can comment on one another’s thoughts taking the pressure off that comes with face-to-face conversation.  In addition, if this is done in the classroom using three or more computers, it is away for the children to interact but keep the noise level down while other students do independent work at their desks.

EgoBurp » Web Annotation VI - Diigo - Social Web Annotation - 0 views

  • Diigo is an incremental evolution in human-information interaction. It combines web annotation, which I’ve written about several times, with the social construction of knowledge. It embraces tagging and social bookmarking, as many now are, and extends it to the next step, social annotation. Diigo’s online service approach addresses several problems of web browsing. First, how do I preserve this information I’ve found on the web? You bookmark it. But what if the page moves or is removed? With Diigo, when you bookmark, a copy of the page is saved on Diigo’s servers. Now that I’ve found and saved the page, how do I interact with it? Our model is how we interact with paper documents; We highlight and we make notes. Diigo enables you to both highlight and add notes. That stuff is great, but it gets better. Diigo allows you to make your annotations public. A user of the service see’s the public annotations of other Diigo users. In the future, Diigo will allow the creation of groups. With Google’s PageRank and with social tagging, we find information by the wisdom of the crowd, by word-of-mouth. With Diigo it is now easier than ever to share our collective thoughts on that information-our interpretations, extensions, criticisms and associations. Bringing us full circle, Diigo allows you to tag your bookmarks, and see the tags of other Diigo users. More help finding the information, the comments, and then adding your own. It’s a positive feedback loop.

EgoBurp Diigo - 0 views

  • Diigo rocks, web annotation is here Filed under: General Web annotation — Josh @ 6:46 am After a few monts of use now, Diigo has replaced any other methods of bookmarking. I don’t use Firefox bookmarks anymore. I only us del.icio.us if I want a non-browser interface to my book marks. In my last post about Diigo I said I liked it but I’d post my complaints next post. Since then they’ve fixed everything I was going to complain about. The interface for editing your bookmarks used to be clumsy and hard to find, but they’ve totally remedied that. I was going to complain that the dispay of your tags was sad and ask if we could get a display of our tags as a tag cloud. Before I got the chance to suggest it, I logged in and found I had that option. I’m really liking Diigo and finding it useful. I am printing fewer hard copies of articles. I used to print copies to highlight and annotate them. I’m doing more and more of my highlighting and annotation on Diigo. My primary constructive criticism is that it would be nice to have some non-browser interfaces to the data. For example, the option that del.icio.us gives you to embed a tag cloud of your del.icio.us tags in any web page. That kind of functionality would make Diigo indespensible to me.
