The LAT-D is a modified version of the
original neglect alert device invented by Professor Ian Robertson (see Research
section). The device works in both responsive
and predictive ways. If the patient does not squeeze the bellows during
the specified time interval the buzzer will sound, drawing their attention to
the neglected side and necessitating movement. However, if the patient
squeezes the bellows before the buzzer sounds, the timer cycle is reset.
This means that as the patient's ability to attend to the neglected side
improves, they will be able to prevent the buzzer from sounding.
