More Evidence of Apple's Massive Marketshare Growth in Higher Education - Mac Rumors - 0 views

    The latest computing survey results from the University of Virginia's freshman class show evidence of continued Apple marketshare growth in the higher education market (via Daring Fireball). The chart above shows that Apple has made steady gains since 2003 in the percentage of incoming UVA freshman who own a Mac. The latest year (2008) shows that 37% of incoming students owned a Mac while the percentage owning a Windows computer had shrunk to 62% from a peak of 96% in 2001. The growth tracks closely with the trend towards laptop ownership amongst the Virginia freshman. In 2008, 99% of the incoming students owned a laptop.

Mac OS X market share growth stumbles - 0 views

    Apple Inc.'s operating system market share slipped last month as Microsoft Corp.'s Windows halted its slide for only the fourth time in the past 12 months, a research company reported. In July, Apple's Mac OS X powered 7.76% of the computers that accessed the 40,000 sites Net Applications monitors for its clients, the company said Friday. The Mac's share of the OS market was down 0.18 percentage points from June's 7.94% and was lower than May's 7.83%. Windows, meanwhile, posted a small gain in overall share, climbing 0.13 percentage points from June's 90.89% to end July with 91.02%

    Apple Inc.'s Mac OS X market share has passed the 8% mark for the first time, a research company reported today. In September, Apple's operating system ran on 8.2% of the computers that accessed the 40,000 sites monitored by Net Applications for clients, the company's data showed. The Mac's share of the operating system market was up over August's by nearly four-tenths of a percentage point, the biggest one-month gain since May. Apple tends to post significant increases in September, according to Net Applications. Last year, for example, Mac OS X climbed by 0.45 points that month
