    9ne (pronounced "nine") is an online code editor based on Emacs (Copyright 2006 Rob Rohan). 9ne is a recursive acronym and joke, and means "9ne is not Emacs". 9ne's design goal is to provide an all purpose text editor similar to Emacs but web based. The first step is to assist in code editing (specifically HTML, CSS, and Javascript), but to also add hooks for any type of editing (mail reader, configuration files, etc). It currently supports XML and Javascript syntax highlighting modes (Evoked with M+X XML MODE and M+X JAVASCRIPT MODE respectively)

    Safari normally use the Web Kit framework found inside Mac OS X to render web pages and execute javascript. This means that if you preserve an old version of Safari to run it on a newer version of Mac OS, it will use the newer Web Kit found in the system and you will get the same results as with the newer version. Thus, you would normally need a separate installation of Mac OS X for each version of Safari you want to test a website into.

  • Yes - we have already spoken (BONDI and PhoneGap people).
  • I'd imagine that most of the apps aren't leveraging the capabilities of WebKit which might be why they are felt a bit flat. There are some great JavaScript libraries out there that run web apps smoother using WebKit than some traditional iPhone apps.

    Just need to figure out if the user just needs to get PhoneGap from the AppStore, or they have to get each PhoneGap application from the store, one by one. Distribution methods will be quite different in each case.
