There are lots of people reporting on the spotty iPhone 3G reception issues and according to Barron's it looks like the BlackBerry Bold may be experiencing those same 3G reception issues. The Bold is available only in a couple countries at the moment and isn't yet available here in the U.S. so there is the possibility that the Bold's software will be updated prior to the release.

Research In Motion (NSDQ: RIMM)'s co-CEO implied the BlackBerry Bold continues to be delayed because it's still being tested to ensure that it doesn't have the same 3G connectivity problems that plagued the iPhone 3G earlier this summer.

Phones manufacturers had made many kinds of phone, but among those phones, there are few of them which are smarter than the others. It looks like AT&T was initially planning to launch the BlackBerry Bold before November, but, as evidenced by launch parties running all the way to the end of the month, they've obviously pushed things back a bit. An internal letter advising employees about rescheduling training said "at this time we don't have clarity on the status of all features".

Apple's (AAPL) iPhone 3G and the G1 with Google (GOOG) unveiled on Tuesday have a lot in common. Both are smart phones designed for users who want easier access to the Web than is offered by the current generation of RIM (RIMM) BlackBerries. They share a lot of features - high res (320 x 480 pixel) color displays, motion sensors, support for GPS and Bluetooth 2.0, and venues for third-party apps. And they share some of the same flaws - both are locked to their respective networks, both lack video recording capability and full cut-and-paste text editing, to name just a few.

A California University has created an iPhone application specifically for its students, so it could be only a matter of time before this spreads to college's everywhere.
