sry kareena but i think you have to tag your name on this one and the DNA Evidence Basics one
  •
    you need one news video
  •
You need to tag it with Forensic DNA in quotations to keep it together, and then your name, and then a third tag with a word that desribes the type of article it is.
  •
For this post and the DNA Evidence Basics link you need to put Forensic DNA in quotation marks, and then your name, and then the type of media it is for the tags.

Forensic News Blog: Controversial DNA Testing Kits hitting high street this week. - 1 views

  •
DIY kits to find out the possibility of you getting cancer, diabetes, or Alzheimer's. The person who writes the blog is against these kits being sold because they make people wrongly believe they might get that disease.
  •
very interesting...i for one don't think i want to know my chances of getting these diseases. nor do i think they would be that accurate given the environmental influences of some diseases.

This is just about how in the future, we might have a record of everyone's DNA/ Then, if you find DNA at a crime scene, you can immediately find out who it belongs to.

Forensic DNA technology: A powerful tool for judicial reform | Science and Technology, ... - 0 views

  • Recent advances in forensic DNA testing are now paving the way for reforming the manner by which cases are resolved in courts of law through the way suspected offenders are apprehended during a criminal investigation. Firstly, the availability of new markers which are more variable across different populations, adds to the increased power of discrimination once more genetic markers are used. From the time when DNA testing only involved seven to nine genetic markers to evaluate if crime scene evidence matches a suspect’s profile, as well as to determine relationships, to the current battery of 21 autosomal markers and 23 male-specific markers, the capacity of DNA profiling to differentiate individuals has increased significantly. The use of automated and expert systems for large-scale analysis has also been found to reduce manual errors and to increase output per unit time. The use of several dyes in a single multiplex system provides more information from the same amount of genetic material compared to reactions targeting only one genetic marker but requiring the same amount of DNA that was common in the early 1990s.
  •
This is about how they have new technology for forensic DNA sciences, so they make less mistakes and can find the person quickly. For example, they now have automatic systems to test DNA.

NIH OSE - Research in the News: Creating A Cloned Sheep Named Dolly (Grades 9-12) - 0 views

  • What is a Clone
  • In biology, a clone is a cell or an organism that is genetically identical to another cell or organism.
  • How was Dolly Created? Dolly is different. She was generated from a specialized adult cell, not from an unspecialized embryonic cell.
  • ...7 more annotations...
  • Why is Dolly so special?
  • Why did researchers create Dolly?
  • created Dolly because they are trying to find ways to produce livestock that carry specific genetic traits.
  • find ways to produce animals that carry certain proteins in their milk.
  • if researchers can develop animals with desirable characteristics, they can then clone those animals to produce entire herds that carry the same traits.
  • Scotland tried 277 times to create cloned sheep, and they succeeded only once.
  • Dolly is special because she disproves the notion that cells from an adult animal are too specialized to generate a new organism.
    • Inga V.

This basically says that Dolly is special proves the theory wrong that the cells from an adult animal are too specialized to make a new baby.
  •
This is a science article and it has lots of information about animal cloning. It explains what a clone is in detail, has lots of diagrams to show what it means and lots of information about dolly.

Brazil hopes to save species by cloning them | MNN - 1 views

  • some Brazilian biologists are pushing a more controversial idea: They want to save endangered species by cloning them.
  • The project is still in its infancy,
  • and no cloned jaguars or tamarins will likely be born anytime soon.
  • ...6 more annotations...
  • the plan doesn't involve releasing clones into the wild, where they could undermine conservation by weakening their species' gene pool. Instead, clones would be used to supplement zoo populations and to assist with captive-breeding programs.
  • 90 percent of cloning attempts failing
  • expensive and highly inefficient,"
  • While cloning endangered species is a relatively new pursuit, Brazilian scientists have been copying beef cattle for more than a decade.
  • "We are still in the phase of developing the technology, so we still don't know if it will be possible to rescue a population in the wild, but we could potentially make it viable again."
  • Brazil hopes to save species by cloning them
  •
Brazilian biologists want to save different species by cloning animals. These people hope to save the species that way and put clones into zoo's and other places. They would not put them out into the wild because their they might weaken the species.

Why Clone? - 1 views

  • Cloning animal models of disease Much of what researchers learn about human disease comes from studying animal models such as mice. Often, animal models are genetically engineered to carry disease-causing mutations in their genes.
  • To clone or not to clone: that is the question. The prospect of cloning humans is highly controversial and raises a number of ethical, legal and social challenges that need to be considered.

Just fix your tagging put animal cloning together by putting " " around it and do that with the tagging of the science article too so its one word. This isn't really a science article it's just saying why you should clone and giving pros and cons.
  •
I don't think this a science article since it's not very informative on what cloning is and the process.
  •
Is this a scientific article? Or is this something different with just lots of information about animal cloning? This link has lots of information about animal cloning but it does not have anything that supports this information.

This is about the Olympics where they show that usually black people are faster. Most of them run, faster which has to do somehting with genetics and it shows that it comes naturally. This has a lot to do about "Nature Vs Nurture". 82 people ran under the ten seconds and only 1 person was white.

BBC News | TALKING POINT | Should animal cloning be stopped? - 0 views

  • As long as Animal cloning can offer medical benefits it should be investigated.
  • Cloning is stupid, sick, selfish and evil. There is no need for anyone to exploit animals for greed of humans.
  • I have absolutely no problem with animal cloning; it is a necessary step in the evolution of human welfare.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Cloning should not be outlawed as the technology seems to offer new opportunities in medicine.
  • Keep on cloning, practice makes perfect
  • There needs to be a purpose for cloning. Unless animals that are endangered are cloned then it's a waste of time.

Cloned dogs run wild in Central Park attacking other pets and people - NYPOST.com - 0 views

  • Cosmo and Retro were born 3 1/2 years ago.
  • Rintel had Astro’s DNA frozen twice and then paid $140,000 four years ago to a lab to insert the DNA into a donor egg that would be implanted into a surrogate.
  • Parkgoers have been fuming over the dogs’ bad behavior
  • ...7 more annotations...
  • An Upper West Side man loved his pet, Astro, so much, he made a hat out of the pooch’s fur — and cloned him into two more dogs.
  • Now he defiantly lets his copycat collies run around Central Park without a leash — and neighbors say dogs are terrorizing the Upper West Side.
  • “This is a tragedy waiting to happen,”
  • “They look like lions in the jungle. They roam free,”
  • “We call them ‘the clones,’ ” said a dog owner who claims the two pooches came out of nowhere and attacked his black Lab puppy in Central Park.
  • But Rintel defended his dogs as “good boys” and said the walker wasn’t paying attention to them.
  • They’re not threatening or dangerous dogs. They’re playful and they’re under check,” he said.
  •
Other people are complaining about Rintel, a guy who loved his dog so much that he had his dog cloned twice. His dogs are biting other people and dogs and people from around the neighborhood are complaining about the case.
  •
I don't think this source is the best for an op-ed and it's also not really taking a stand on if cloning is good or bad. I think you should find a better source.

Ethics of Genetic Engineering - 1 views

  • Benefit to All The strongest defense as well as offense of Genetic engineering is its benefit to everyone. The Organ Donor list can be demolished in just a few years. Genetically modified animals yield healthier foods, and healthier foods yield healthier americans, which solves the problem of the century. Besides the current problems we have, the future of Genetic Engineering has far more options. Children can be born with no defects and be immune to most fatal diseases. These reasons are presented and yet no one seems to believe in Genetic Engineering.
