There is a book that I am using with my reading group regarding this orphan train...I never heard of it. Breaks my heart - I used a youtube to introduce it to the kids. We are in the process of reading it. Two of my three kids in group are very much enjoying learning about it.

"Okay, so also not to long ago I saw on Blog Hoppin' a teacher did a project for younger kids called turkey in disguise (sorry I don't remember the teacher, but she is so smart). So we decided since I saw it too late, to do Gingerbread men in disguise for our Christmas writing prompt. The students are currently working on stories about how they woke up and they found a gingerbread man running for his life and asking for help. In their story they must tell about how they disguised him, what they disguised him as, and how they helped him escape certain peril. They are having such a good time, they begged for extra writing time today. Anyway here are some of the gingerbread men in disguise, these are not all from my class. Our whole fourth grade is doing this project.
aren't they adorable, these are just a few. There were way too many to choose from. Hopefully when they are done with the writing piece I can post some of those.
I hope you all have an amazing last week before break, and as always thanks for reading!

Give students part of the constitution and have them identify which part (article/section) the pictures applies to in the constitution. Includes patent drawings (monopoly, etc :) (Albert Einstein's immigration papers)
I've done this in years past and it's powerful. In third grade, I got some tears when we damaged the dolls so I stopped doing it! I will do it again this year and tie it into my anti-bullying talks. I have some paper cut-out dolls that the students can trace - you are welcome to borrow.
This site looks cool - found it in a quick google search for a worksheet to help my kiddos who are still struggling with converting fractions from mixed to improper. Seems like there is a whole bunch of skills here and no sign in required!
Scott Davidson (Ryan Landis' student teacher sent me this link - looks like a lot of resources for short stories, lengthier reading. fluency, writing, puzzles, etc.
