Apple appears to have finally patched a bootrom vulnerability in the iPhone 3GS which has been used for jailbreaking via the 24Kpwn exploit.

The CandyShell by Speck has a thin hard plastic coating on the outside and a soft rubbery silicone on the inside and on the button protectors. This is very good because it protects iPhones from getting scratched in your pocket. The back side of the iPhone is the most vulnerable to scratches, but the CandyShell protects it completely. The shiny hard outer coating makes it easy to get your iPhone in and out of your pocket.

Taking good care of your iPhone 3G is important, especially since it has that horrible plastic back that's vulnerable to cracks. As you know, cracks on the white iPhone 3G appear to be the most visible, but that doesn't mean they don't exist in black models. I'm still not sold on the iPhone 3G so I don't have one, but if I did I'd take extra good care of it because I wouldn't want to pay another $200 or $300 to replace it.
