2009 brings an easy option to unlock the iPhone 3G - but results vary | iPhone News Upd... - 0 views

  •
True to their word, the group known as Dev-Team unveiled their software unlock for the iPhone 3G, known as yellowsn0w, on New Year's Day. This software unlock will allow you to use your iPhone with a SIM card from another carrier other than AT&T (the exclusive iPhone carrier in the US). CrunchGear did a great step-by-step walk through with pictures, and it looks very easy to do, but there are some issues, which the Dev-Team has been updating on its blog.

Movable Type 4をiPhone&iPod touchに対応させる「iMT」 - The blog of H.Fujimoto - 0 views

iPhone not writing Location EXIF correctly? « geobloggers - 0 views

  • Ok, so everyone’s playing with the new iPhone 2.0 software, and taking photos, and embedding the location information into the EXIF. Well early adopters in San Francisco are anyway, and here’s an interesting thing about San Francisco is that it’s at the same latitude as a bit of the Yellow Sea, just off the coast of China. Example: San Francisco is 37.7 latitude, -122.4 longitude which puts it firmly in the Western Hemisphere. The same latitude but 122.4 longitude you end up just off the coast of China. The Spec for GPS location in EXIF says that you’re not supposed to have any sign information on the latitude or longitude, so it’ll always be positive (i.e. the North Eastern Hemispheres) in the "GPS Latitude" and "GPS Longitude" fields (although some apps do add that information) The North/South East/West bit is supposed to be in the "GPS Latitude Ref" and "GPS Longitude Ref" fields. But it seems at first glance, that the iPhone 2.0 software misses these fields out when writing EXIF data to the photo, so while everything else using Core-Location on the iPhone is super happy. Photos appear to be missing which Hemisphere they’re taken in. And those photos taken in San Francisco, well, they think they’re in China … for the moment. EXIF from iPhone GPS Latitude 37 deg 45' 36.00" GPS Longitude 122 deg 25' 48.00" GPS Position 37 deg 45' 36.00", 122 deg 25' 48.00" Missing EXIF Fields GPS Latitude Ref North GPS Longitude Ref East Can anyone else confirm that there’s no North/South, East/West information in the EXIF, or is it hidden somewhere else and I’m just missing it?

  • Details about AT&T’s plans to offer free Wi-Fi for iPhone users first appeared in May, but shortly after posting details of the plan, AT&T pulled them again. AT&T is the sole provider of data and voice plans for iPhone users in the United States.
  • According to the details of the page that appeared briefly on AT&T’s Web site, AT&T says it has more than 17,000 Wi-Fi hotspots nationwide. The company counts 12 airports, 31 hotels, 23 universities, 18 convention centers, five sports centers, 8,000 or more restaurants, 700 or more bookstores and more than 50 supermarkets. Editor's note: Added information about the page being pulled offline, again. But we saw it this time, we swear, folks. It was real.

Apple Needs China More Than it Does Verizon | iPhone News Updated - 0 views

  •
For Apple's iPhone to truly be a world-class smart phone, it needs to be everywhere in the world. But iPhone isn't officially distributed where it needs to be most: China, the world's largest cell phone market. Recent noise about possible future iPhone deals with U.S. carriers shouldn't drown out the silence about China.
