WordPress for iPhoneが、AppStoreにお目見えしました。レビューが低い事に気付くかと思われますが、これは「日本語で投稿しようとするとアプリが落ちてしまう」為で、日本人ユーザーは修正待ちという形で、Lastfmに続きまたもやお預けを食らうことになってしまいました。 [ AppStore ] 対応しているブログは、WordPress.comがホストしているレンタルブログとWordPress2.5.1以上を使用しているブログで、投稿画面ではタイトル、カテゴリ、タグ、投稿ステータス、画像の貼り付けなどが一通り行えます。モブログ投稿用として使う or 出先から下書き投稿、帰宅後整形して公開という使い方なら、なかなかいいツールになりそうです。

3Gがカバーする地域以外ではほとんどスピードが変わらない。私がいつもいるブルックリン地区も残念ながらそうだ。EDGEより早いスピードを期待しているのなら考え直した方がいい。都市部に住むひとにとってはスピード増は顕著だろう。3Gモデルには、初代モデルのEDGE/Wi-Fiの通常速度よりはっきりと分るような大幅なスピードアップが必要だ。3GはAT&Tの求めで取り入れた目くらましだと思う。3Gだとバッテリーをすごく食うし、圏外に出ても自動的に切れるわけではない。

それからApp Storeだ。これぞ2.0ファームウェアが素晴らしい点であり、同時にまたある意味お粗末な点でもある。牢屋破りした第一世代のiPhoneは天国だった。アップルの足かせを外すのにハッカーが協力し合い、プログラマーたちはアップル認定ではないが素晴らしいソフトを書いた。バカげたアプリも、スゴいものもあった。リナックスのボックスを手にしたみたいなものだ。でもそれはみんな過去の話だ。いまやApp Storeは有名ソフトハウスが作ったスゴい有料アプリのコレクションになった。App Storeにずらっと目を通すと、バカバカしいものからすばらしいものまであることに気付く。大部分のゲームはiPhoneの驚くべきグラフィックス能力を示している。しかし他のものはまるでプログラミングを覚えたての子供が書いたみたいに見える。3Gがアプリの主流というわけではない。なぜなら第一世代のiPhoneやTouchも2.0ファームウェアで動くからだ。App Storeは絶対手に入れたいものであり、同時に誰でも手に入れられるものだ。

最後はバッテリーの話。3Gでのバッテリーライフが思ったよりもったと書いているサイトが複数あるのを知っている。私の場合、あまりウェブブラウジングをしないのでたっぷり18時間もった。私の使い方が一般的でないことは分っている。未読のメールが現在12246通もあり、半時間毎に10〜20通のメールがくる。でもそれほど異常じゃないだろう。毎時自動フェッチするように設定しているが、スピードという点では改善がみられるものの、バッテリーはすぐに問題になるだろう。これは時間が経つほど（良くはなく）悪くなるものだ。他のマシン（Sidekick）でも同じような問題が生じたことを思い出す。結局は消耗していいときで8時間、ひどいときは4時間にまで減ってしまうのだ。

There are lots of people reporting on the spotty iPhone 3G reception issues and according to Barron's it looks like the BlackBerry Bold may be experiencing those same 3G reception issues. The Bold is available only in a couple countries at the moment and isn't yet available here in the U.S. so there is the possibility that the Bold's software will be updated prior to the release.
