The first reviews of the iPhone 4 on Verizon are out.The consensus? Verizon has more signal bars in more places than AT&T, with a main caveat: data speed is not as fast. So for millions of those who have threatened to jump the AT&T ship for what they think might be a more reliable carrier and for those who want a non-AT&T iPhone, here is your chance. Verizon and Apple have started taking pre-orders for existing customers for the iPhone 4.

Less than a day after the Verizon iPhone 4 went on sale to the general public, both Apple and Verizon have pushed back the estimated shipping deadline for new orders to Feb. 18.

Consumer Reports tested the Verizon iPhone 4 using the same methodology as the original GSM version, and with the same results: signal strength drops if the iPhone 4 is gripped in a certain fashion, commonly known as the "death grip." As a result of its testing, Consumer Reports decided it couldn't recommend the Verizon iPhone 4, either.

It appears as if USA Today is now in the iPhone rumor business, alleging that Verizon will be carrying the iPhone as soon as 2010. Unfortunately, neither evidence nor common sense support its claim that Verizon will be selling a CDMA-based iPhone next year, or ever.

Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg took advantage of a recent chat with the Wall Street Journal to talk a bit about Apple. Seidenberg said that Apple never wanted to make a version of the iPhone for Verizon's CDMA network, since it wouldn't be able to be as widely distributed as the GSM-based models it eventually produced. Uh, yeah, Ivan, thanks for joining the rest of us over here in the nation of Duh.

It looks like the rumours surrounding Verizon and iPhone are never going to stop, and whilst many of you Big Red subscribers would surely love to see the iPhone on your network, it doesn't really look like it is any nearer to actually happening.

When Apple hold their media event next week it is expected that they will reveal their iSlate device, however rumors also suggest that we may find out more about the highly anticipated Verizon iPhone 4G.

Talks between Apple and Verizon have been in the press for several days now, but recent reporting suggests the two may be discussing a pared-down version of the Apple iPhone and an Amazon Kindle-like "media pad," for release as earlier as this summer. But does Apple need the hassle of CDMA?

I've owned my Droid X since it came out, and I simply love it. I can't imagine having a different phone. I feel it surpasses the iPhone in a few ways. For one, it has a bigger and sharper screen. If you're planning to play games, watch movies or shows, this is the phone for you. It might not seem like it's "that much" bigger, but it is and it makes a difference. The screen is sharp enough that I watch Netflix and HBO shows on my phone all the time (did I mention the WiFi is strong enough on the phone for this to be possible?). Also, a lot of people think they simply must have their music on their iPods. Once I got this phone, I sold my old iTouch. Are iPods better at handling music then the Droid X? Yes. But is it a significant upgrade? No, not at all. The music quality is the exact same, so the only difference is the interface. It's very easy to get the music from your computer onto the phone as well, simply a drag and drop process. Having owned the phone for almost a year and half, I have to say that the battery has declined over time. When I got the phone, the battery life was about 8-10 hours using it somewhat throughout the day. Now that is about 5-7 hours of heavier use. Even so, I still love this phone and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone!

The more Verizon and AT&T trade unseasonal greetings over their respective 3G networks, the more collateral damage seems to be inflicted on the iPhone.

Verizon's iPhone hasn't even hit stores yet, but the telecom and its rival AT&T have already started a fight via TV advertising.
