Our source who played with the 3G iPhone told us explicitly there is no front-facing videoconferencing camera. Even still, when we were ferreting around the new 3G iPhone firmware today, we were keeping an eye out for altered or additional camera drivers, something to indicate a front-facing camera. Nothing. The text explanation for Exchange and iChat are so bad as to make the whole thing unbelievable. (Apple's doing video chat for Windows? Huh?) But that's not all! Say, wouldn't that exchange logo be in the Apple banner that's up at the Moscone right now? All the other iPhone icons are. No Apple design would be laid out the way this guy's got his page laid out here. Bottom line: looks pretty, but so very fake.

No, Apple hasn’t changed their tune and decided to push the feature to the top of their priority list. The program, a rich-text editing tool, lets iPhone owners select text by highlighting with a double-tap and drag motion. iPhoneの3G対応がメディアで話題になっているが、「全米で600万台のベストセラー」だって？　パラダイス鎖国では、この程度でベストセラーなのかもしれないが、ノキア1100は2億台、モトローラのRAZRでも5000万台売れてるんだよ。上の図のように、スマートフォンのシェアでもBlackberryの半分にもならない。 事実は逆で、iPhoneは携帯端末としては売れ行き不振だから、AT&Tに補助金をもらって見かけ上の価格を200ドル下げただけのことだ。その代わり、通信料金は2年で240ドル増える。2年以上使ったら、事実上の値上げだ。日本ではソフトバンクが売るようだが、こっちはそういう詐欺的な価格表示はやめたから、4万円ぐらいだろう。

もともとiPhoneがAT&Tから出たのは、3Gへの対応が遅れて急成長するベライゾンに抜かれるのが時間の問題だったAT&Tが、ジョブズの「設計にも価格にもいっさい口を出すな」という要求を呑んで屈辱的な契約（プロトタイプを見ることさえ許されなかった）を結んだためだが、ここにきて立場が逆転した。iPhoneの在庫が積み上がり、eBayなどで投げ売りされるようになって、さすがのジョブズもAT&Tの補助金に頼らざるをえなくなったのだ。

これでアップルの価格支配力も、iPhoneのポータビリティもなくなる。SIMロックなしのオープンアクセスが当たり前の欧州では、売れないだろう。アメリカではすでにベライゾンがトップになり、700MHz帯ではオープンに移行し、グーグルと提携してAndroidを採用し、2010年にはLTEに移行する計画だ。今ごろ3Gなんて騒いでいるのは1周遅れである。
