The State Educational Technology Directors Association are providing "The Guide to Technology Requirements," a website to assist school and district leaders to understand the detailed requirements for the online assessments being developed by all six assessment consortia.

The article is for elementary school. It is somewhat basic, but it might be a conversation starter for a staff meeting. Also, it has links to other resources. (Make sure you go to page 2.) "These are the new citizenship skills for our students. While we shouldn't stop teaching children how to say "please" and "thank you," and bullies will still exist in the face-to-face world, it is vital that we treat online safety and digital citizenship with the same amount of seriousness and attention."

"LANSING -- The Michigan Department of Education says the future of student testing is an exam produced by the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium. For some students across the state, however, that future has already arrived."

But some struggled as they learned to use the Smarter Balanced test's new tools, such as highlighting and on-screen calculators, said Travis Moorman, the director of teaching and learning for the Milford school system. These and other problems are discussed.
