what happened to the "Read Later" button?

Hmm, I just noticed in the new toolbar that I can't find the "Read Later" button that I used all the time in the previous version. I see the "Unread" folder to the right of the toolbar...but how do I put items in there??

I *really* liked the functionality of clicking once on the "Read Later" and having the page disappear!

To put a link in to Unread folder
1) Click bookmark button, check Unread before you add a bookmark
OR
2) Click the quick save icon(the book icon) beside the bookmark button.

yes, this puts items into the Unread folder...but it also bookmarks them!

I don't know if I want to bookmark a page until after I've read it.

In addition, the page is still visible on my tab bar.

I really liked the previous functionality, where *one click* would simultaneously put a page into an unread list, and close the tab in Firefox. Apparently that's not possible any longer.

Maintaining my Unread list had nothing at all to do with my bookmarking activity -- it was just a quick (and very handy!) way to clean out several tabs that I didn't want to deal with until later.

Any chance that we could have this functionality back as an option?

oh, I forgot to add in my previous reply:

adding an "unread" item to my bookmark list also means that I have to go back into that list later and delete the bookmark if I don't want it to remain on my list.

Previous behavior:
*one click* to both put a page into the Unread list and to close the tab.

Now I need at least six clicks to do the same thing and simultaneoudly keep my Bookmark list clean:

1) click the quick save icon
2) open a new tab for Diigo bookmarks
3) go to My Bookmarks page
4) (after finding the particular unread page I am trying to unbookmark, if there are several) select that bookmark
5) choose "delete" from the action pull-down menu
6) confirm delete

I just want to reiterate that I really want to keep my Unread pages *out* of my Bookmark list altogether. If I end up reading a page and liking it, *then* I'll bookmark it -- but not before.

It would be really great to have the old functionality back!

I really miss this feature. I've just installed the Read It later plugin for Firefox. I'd rather use diigo for everything but seeing as you've taken away a useful feature AND you never bothered to tell us about the change, maybe it's for the best.

thanks for the pointer to the Read It later plug-in. It will do what I want 9although I still miss Diigo's old feature of automatically closing the page when you marked it for "Read Later" -- that made clean-up at the end of a long research day very easy!

I noticed that this feature is still missing. Are you planning on bringing it back? For my part, my use of Diigo has really dropped since this feature was removed.

I never noticed it missing. Is/was the issue specific to Internet Explorer?

I sometimes find that my Diigo Toolbar for Firefox preference to show the Quick Access Filter button* is lost, but a simple click on the Options button allows me to re-set that preference.

* What's described as a button ('Quick Access Filter') seems to equate to two menus (not a button) within the toolbar. That's not a complaint — both the 'Recent' and 'Unread' menus are enormously useful.

idea: "like last bookmark" button

I've just been adding a number of bookmarks, all of which are very similar topics, so using very similar tags and options. But every time i add one i have to type in all the tags and select the list, and other options.
(well, actually i soon figured out to copy and past the list of tags)

So, I was wondering, how about a little button on the "add bookmark" popup that repeats all the options, tags, etc.. of the last bookmark?

That way, if i'm adding a load of similar bookmarks at the same time (a likely scenario i'd think) I coudl just:
Click "add bookmark", click "as last bookmark", (optionally make any changes), and click "submit".

Just a thought.

Sounds like a great idea. I absolutely agree that this would be a very useful feature.

idea: get tags/recommended tags from lists

Two connected ideas that'd be useful to me:

1) Recommended tag suggestions from lists. (or even groups)
I've added tags to my lists, but i'm not quite sure what use they have. But it seems to me that if i'm adding an item to a list, and that list has tags, then those might be suitable for items in that list.
I'd imagine that when you select a list from the dropdown it'd pop up another list of recommended tags, based on that list's tags. *

2) Automatically add list tags to bookmarks.
Maybe more extreme, but it'd be fine for me. If i add an item to a list then i'd be quite happy if ALL the tags from that list were automatically added to that bookmark.

I tend to find that a lot of my bookmarks fall into 3 or 4 distinct categories, and i'm adding the same 7 or 8 tags to each bookmark in a category. Even with autocomplete it seems a little inefficient. Being able to use lists to quickly add common groups of tags would be useful.

*maybe with a "add all list tags" option too.

I have the diigo toolbar installed, and as i build up a nice list of diigo bookmarks it'd be really useful to be able to search it easily.. but everything in my FF is set to open in new tabs. (searches, URLs, etc..) so every time i'm reading a page and I want to search for something in the text box i go ahead... ONLY TO GET MY CURRENT TAB OVERWRITTEN...

which is REALLY frustrating.. especially if i was half way through typing something and wanted to look up a reference. I can't even CTRL enter or ALT enter or anything to open the results in a new tab...

Bug in Collecting Flash | FF3 Toolbar

Wierd glitches today. Has happened multiple times

1. Bookmark & collect flash on a site. (site being youtube and vimeo) Little message and checkmark (Collected!) shows up.

2. Go to My bookmarks

3. Notice that there are no annotations listed. Think hmmm. I guess I didnt collect the flash properly. hmm.

4. Go back to exact same page.

5. Collect flash for the second time. Again, little message and checkmark (collected!) shows up.

6. Go back to My Bookmarks to check.

7 Now there are 2 annotations. each are the same video.

It's like the video wont show up unless I do it twice. It's weird. And then i have to go back and delete a copy. I didnt think you could clip an annotation twice without deleting the first.

Using Diigo without a toolbar

I teach online courses and I created a Diigo group for resource sharing. Some participants have told me that they cannot get in because they are not allowed to download toolbars to their school computers where they do their work. IS there a way to join a Diigo group without downloading the toolbar?

The Diigo toolbar is really not needed for joining a Diigo group. The toolbar makes using Diigo a lot more convenient but it is not required for most features of Diigo. And alternatively you can install the Diigolet, which doesn't offer everything the toolbar does but still offers a lot of functionality. Installing the Diigolet will be allowed on any computer because it is not really an installation, the Diigolet is actually just a special kind of bookmark.

Back to your actual question: Neither the Diigo toolbar nor the Diigolet is required for joining a Diigo group. In order to join to a Diigo group without the toolbar, just go to the Diigo homepage http://www.diigo.com/ and click on "Sign in" in the upper right corner. Then enter your login data (user name + password) into the appropriate fields and click the button "Submit". Now you are logged in. Click on "Communities" and find the group you would like to join. Then just click the button "Join Group". That's it.

feature request: usability change for tag selection when bookmarking from the toolbar

When typing in a tag while bookmarking from the toolbar, I'd really like to see it automatically go to the first item in the auto-complete list. So, for example, if I type in the letters "so" and the tags "social" and "social bookmarking" appear in the auto-complete list, it would be really helpful if it automatically defaulted to the first item (in this case, "social"). Right now, what happens is that I type in enough letters to get a single match in the auto-complete list, I hit the enter key (assuming that the tag is selected), and the window is closed. To fix the bookmark, I have to go into my account and change the bookmark. We do a ton of bookmarking, and this small change would significantly improve our efficiency.

At a minimum, I'd like it to keep the window open until I tab down to the save button.

This bug has to do with any tag that is two words in quotes.

Here's an example.
1. I go to the White House page : whitehouse.gov
2. I use the FF toolbar to tag the page: "White House"
3. I visit My bookmarks at the Diigo site.
4 I see the most recent bookmark of whitehouse.gov and so far the tag "White House" is intact.
5 I go to the White House site again. I use the toolbar to edit the bookmark.
6. I enter a description.
7 I go back to My Bookmarks,
8. Without out me doing it, the tag "White House" has been changed to two separate tags, White and House.

Here's the problem. When the window pops up with my saved current information for the bookmark of the site I am on, it reinterprets any two word tag WITHOUT the quotes. Do I have retype in tags everytime I edit a site, or can you fix this?

got huge problems with my toolbar....cant see all my bookmarks. all with a "orange star" i can only see in "tags"...(all the private ones)

in one of my lists are 25 bookmarks, 5 open and 20 private....i can only see the first 5 ! this problem is since about a week.

For me "real estate" of the browser is very important, and as much as i want to use the toolbar i don't need it open all times. I think a "toggle" button in the FF navigation toolbar which will show and hide the Diigo toolbar will help alot in preventing unnecessary clutter to the browser. (same as in e.g. stumbleupon, facebook and other toolbars.

I had the very same idea. Infact an addon that creates a close button for all toobars at the end of each toolbar. Or as you say a small panel of icons in the navigation toolbar that toggle. Real estate is very important. You paid for a monitor of a certain size and are losing maybe £5 per toolbar.

Flock Beta Toolbar Crash

So I'm starting a separate topic on this as the Firefox issue seems to be fixed, but Flock 2 crashes with 3.1.6.1. The same thing has been happening since 3.1.5. I can't really give much more than that. The whole app crashes before you get anywhere.

I just tried both Flock 1.2.4 and Flock 2.0b2 on Windows. Everything looks fine.
I guess you are using Flock 2 beta on Mac OS X.

Yep. I may try to do a fresh build (disable all plugins and start over to see if I can isolate) if i have sometime later.

Along with this new upgrade, the first batch of new toolbar features is released (Diigo FF toolbar version 3.1.6.0):

Quick Access Filter - you can now use it to quickly show / access 4 different filter types:
"Recent", "Unread", "Tag(s)", or "List"

Please note: Tag filter is still not working properly yet, as tag search re-indexing is still under way.

Diigo toolbar IE7 bug

I'm experiencing following symptoms with Diigo Toolbar for IE7.

#1. whenever I open a new tab, IE7 loses focus for about a second. You can see this by watching IE's titlebar.
#2. opening new tab is slow. (because of #1)
#3. Whenever I open a link in new tab, IE7 loses focus.

I disabled all add-ons except Diigo Toolbar, still the same symptom.
If Diigo Toolbar is enabled but not displayed, the symptoms dissapear.

My guess is that IE7 loses focus because Diigo Toolbar is getting focus.

I am running into the same issues.

I recently had to reinstall Diigo on IE7 and now the toolbar (1.) disappears everytime a new window pops up, and (2.) when I sign-in again, I can't seem to bookmark the page that I'm on.

Need to trouble-shoot this issue ASAP as I have an upcoming conference to attend and plan to use Diigo for part of my demo.

And one other clarification, it doesn't seem to be a cookie issue because "persistent cookie" is enabled within my security settings.

Toolbar is wacky

A short while ago, I was here asking about the toolbar not giving the right number for messages. Someone told me to reinstall the toolbar and that did solve the problem.

Now, the toolbar suddenly won't show Bookmark, Highlight, Comment, Send, and Read Later--they are there but grayed out...

I reinstalled the toolbar but that does not fix the problem. The weird thing is, if I'm on Diigo's site, they are available but nowhere else.

This is a serious problem!

Not a biggie but might indicate some underlying problems with Diigo's software, eh?

The problem is due to a small javascript bug. You can clear your cache and then mark them as unread again. It works now.

Hi,
Am new to diigo and it looks great except...
how do I easily get to a list of my tags?

With the del.icio.us toolbar i can easily see bundles of tags on the toolbar and then click on a title to see all my tags.

In diigo, the closest i have found it opening the sidebar and typing in a tag i want... but i dont want to have to type each time, isnt there a way to see a list of tags without going through the website?

Simple: a lot of us do not like clogging up FFox bookmarks. Especially those like me who use a USB portable version of Ffox.

One more request: is it possible to have a 'lite' version of Diigo home page? Delicious pages are less cluttered. This would definitely be a nice selling point for Delicious users as a nice transition to Diigo.

i wanted this feature, but now that FF3 has the "most visited" list on the left side it isn't so mecessary. the main reason I wanted it is because over 50% of my diigo toolbar is wasted blank space.. be nice to use it for SOMETHING.

Being able to have "live bookmarks/tag subscriptions" directly on the toolbar would be great. (similar to how the filter worked on the old toolbar, but more convenient and direct. Also, being able to have the search options appear on the toolbar might be useful too.

for those that don't realise, you can use favicons as bookmarks in FF3, so my first 15 bookmarks are all just favicons with no text, and so only take up about 8cm of space.

Also, you can make live bookmarks of diigo tags.. so I have the rest of my most used sites in diigo with one tag, and a live bookmark of that tag on the firefox bookmarks toolbar.

Thanks for reporting. Does your proxy use Http Authentication?
Because we use the standard XMLHttpRequest for server communication, this might be caused by a FF3 bug (or behavior change). We need to reproduce the problem in our testing environment and see what's wrong.

Yes, our proxy use Basic http authentication

I've solved this problem adding Proxy-Authorization header to every request using "Modify Headers" extension

Check out the new sidebar (the most left button. After you open up the sidebar, look for the "My bookmarks" tab. You can easily pull out tag(s) list filter there. Please check the HELP file for more info.

Yes. You're right. It's currently missing in the new version. We will give it some more thought.

The new toolbar / site code base are completely re-written. We have done the "foundation" - will consider adding the necessary enhancements.

Just a suggestion, and I don't think it'll work for private bookmarks, but you could try subscribing to the tag you want using firefox's live bookmarks feature.

Put that Live Bookmark on your bookmarks toolbar and you can click it to see a list of all bookmarks with that tag, and use it to open them all.

Of course, you'd probably only want to o this with 1 or 2 tags, but it might do what you want.

Also, you might notice that diigo has added an entry in the file menu (or it did in my Firefox anyway--don't know about other browsers). On it are several folders: recently bookmarked; unread bookmarks; my lists; and my groups. If you hover your mouse over these they will show a list of the bookmarks inside, and at the bottom will be the option to open all in tabs. They aren't sorted by tags or anything like that, but I thought you still might find it useful.

This is a key feature. Please restore it. Was the most useful part of Diigo toolbar for me. I filtered all the time to quickly access tags. Also, open all in tabs.

The only problem with the sidebar is that it doesn't remember the filter. The old toolbar menu used to let you have a default filter.

Speaking of tabs, almost nothing in the two drop-down menus can be opened with middle-click now. (That's wheel-click for me, but i guess it is virtually the same.) I counted two such items in each menu, and think there were more before.

Diigo toolbar freezes IE

I signed up to diigo yesterday and downloaded the toolbar. IE would freeze up for all users on my computer. I uninstalled the toolbar this morning and IE works fine now.

Did you use some other IE add ons which may be in conflict with diigo toolbar? You can go to IE ===>Tools ===>Manage Add-ons ==> Enable or disable add-ons ==> Do one/two screenshot to capture all add-ons there and send it joel 【at】 diigo dot com.

BTW, did you use the windows administrator account to install diigo toolbar?

I also just signed up for diigo, and I find that IE freezes when I use the IE right-click option "open page in new tab" and also when I try to access a page via a URL in another application. Both of these features worked before I installed the diigo toolbar.

My OS is Windows XP Pro and I am using IE7.0.5730.11. I always run on an administrator account.

I have a bunch of IE add-ons and will email screen shots to the email address given in reply #2.

I have had this problem for quite sometime.... any idea when it will be fixed? The toolbar has alot more function than the diigolet. also... if you put a release date on the toolbar download button that would help me know if a newer version has come out. Thanks

"Unread" Bookmarks: Improved handling please!

Hello,

I really enjoy using the "unread" feature of Diigo - bookmarking something to check out later is one of my primary uses of bookmarks. However, I think this feature could be more cleanly handled. I have two suggestions that I feel would make this feature even more useful:

1) Toolbar improvement: Add a "Next Unread" button to the toolbar, preferably as a primary button or else as a link in the Diigo menu. Bonus points: If there are no more unread bookmarks, this could change to "Next Recommended". :) (or to put it a different way: right now the toolbar is very focused on bookmarking pages, it would be good to see a little focus on finding and reading bookmarks.)

2) Option to not share unread bookmarks: If this option is selected, then bookmarks won't show up in my public or friend bookmarks until they have been marked as read. Often I bookmark something just to check it out, and after reading it decide to delete the bookmark. This way, it never 'makes it to the surface' until I think it is good enough.

Even without this, Diigo is still a fantastic application in all regards. Thanks!!

Same for me. Even though Diigo supports a read/unread flag, I'm using the "ReadItLater" AddOn for Firefox because the handling in Diigo is too hidden. I'd like to have a "ReadItLater" button integrated in the Diigo toolbar, and also a tab for the unread bookmarks in the Diigo sidebar.

Otherwise, yes, Diigo is great.

I was just told that unread bookmarks are actually available via the Diigo menu. But I still find it confusing that they are missing in the sidebar and the Diigo toolbar button. Also, the "next unread" button in the toolbar would be handy.

You can access unread bookmark in Diigo top menu button ( the one between Bookmarks and Tools ). However, we will add an unread button on the toolbar according to the suggestion you and Chris made.
