new tags don't show up in tagcloud

First let me say that I am excited about Diigo. I have tried several other social bookmarking tools, but they just don't seem to work well for me. Diigo looks like it will be great. I am looking forward to the new version.

I have just started using Diigo and have not been able to get tags to show up in the tagcloud. The tags show up on the bookmarks, but not in the cloud.

Do new tags take a while to show up in the cloud? More than several hours?

I have tried on Mac OS X and Windows XP using the latest versions of Firefox, IE, and Flock browsers.

Any suggestions?

Hi,
Sorry for the inconvenience. We are upgrading tag database to speed up tag search. Don't worry, You data is kept well and you can do tag search in 24 hours.

How to set alpha - list view by default?

When I try to do this and refresh the page, the view reverts back to tag cloud - frequency.

Edit: Sorry, I just found the topic where this was asked. When is v3 planned for release?

I'd be real nice if the tag cloud did not clip long tags. I have several tags that use more than one word, but the cloud clips them down to one word.

To use a phrase as a single tag, either put quotation marks around the phrase, or use hyphen between words.

Yes Maggie, I do that. But the cloud still clips it if it's more that a certain number of characters.

thank you donalconion for this excellent suggestion.

Long tags are really helpful to connect clear cut concepts in different social communities.
They appear indispensable for open SocialCollaboration (and IntraCorporateCollaboration too).

By the way, what about not only allowing long tags, but making the tags sensible to uppercase and show them in CaseSensitive form. This way the readers can overlook them at least twice as fast.

Great suggestions fridemar. The tag cloud is a great tool, but it needs some more attention.

This is not a simple switch on / off - will involve & affect a lot of our backend stuff. Need careful evaluation by our team.

It is welcome to hear that the Tags are under more development now.! WOW!!

I agree too, with this post thread: it would be good at least if the longer tagnames coudn't be cut off.

I understand from a programmer view it is not so simple to resolve, similarly the toggling between the uppercase and lowercase, due to backend.

- In latter case it may be probable a satisfactorily enough solution only allowing to type both lowercase & uppercase characters in tag names (i don't quite undertand why this would not be allowed :), It is a bit weaker conditions than the toggling between lower/uppercase ones.

- Regarding to the long tag names appearance: Consider the tags appearing in drop down combo box added with a short and or filter feature at MyBookmark seeing the taglist under the link, instead of tag cloud which takes much more place from the screen. (it immediately would be edited, or picked up in another window the details as it is now;... it is only a tipp:)

I already put an earlier post regarding to the
Editing tags: which may be combined and solved elegantly and simply with this problem.

I'd like also drawing to your attention too here according to the tag improvement my another earlier post confirming my and probably else one's claim for:
There would be more charaters allowed in the tag names than 256.
How many characters are allowed in the tag list?

I'd appreciate your solution for improving the tag feature owing to it is a really sensitive part of the perspicuity.

We've finished implementing FF long tags support, but still have a little trouble with IE stylesheet. Will continue playing with it.

This feature will be rolled out with the next major website release. Stay tuned.

Thank you Diigo providers,

Long tags are very efficient tools to interface between different social online communities and to transport ideas, that are in the Web2.0 trend.

As example, some peers might want to search and link to long tags like:

CreatingAndSharingWealth
SocialCommonWealth

Currently they don't show in the Diigo tag-search, although the author made them public. Grrrh :-(
Instead of this, if you search ("All Bookmarks by tag") at Diigo's Mainpage for

"SocialCommonWealth"

and who would deny that millions of socially minded people would like to build and share SocialCommonWealth

we get the wrong answer:

No bookmarks tagged SocialCommonWealth

The author doesn't think, that the Diigo community is happy with such a state, which appears to him only as a bug feature of the diigo software and not a missing social engagement of the Diigo provider.

I disagree with this statement. We don't view Diigo as merely just a piece of software. We're actively building the underlying core platform (it takes a lot hard work!!!) that not only provides a powerful personal online research companion, but more importantly, a rich social platform that enables new modes of interactions and participations on the web. What you see here is barely scratching the surface of what we envision Diigo to eventually evolve to.

Among juggling a million things to do, we don't have time, nor it's appropriate for us to re-iterate our grand vision statement each time we reply to a forum post, where users provide an input and we respond in a way that gets to the point. We welcome and actively filter through user suggestions and inputs. And we don't take user inputs only at face value as lots of internal discussions follow.

Others are of course, welcome to participate in the discussion. In this type of social platforms, participants will and are freely to participate when they feel they have something to contribute. That's the beauty of web2.0, and the new social web that Diigo is helping to shape and create.

My tags aren't working!

If I click on any tag, no matter how many entries are tagged with that tag, I get the message that "You have no bookmarks under" that tag.

Seriously -

I consider this to be a HUGE problem. I can't believe anyone hasnt mentioned it ANYWHERE in a forum or on the site. If this major capability - sort by tag - is down, dont you think the users should know about it??

It seems to be fine with any tag that was not entered in today. I logged into an old profile, and could sort by tag there. Here is what I found:

1. If I added a new bookmark with a new tag, and then clicked on that tag, I would receive the "you have no bookmarks under {new tag].

2. If I added a new bookmark under an existing tag, the bookmark would not show up with the rest of the bookmarks entered in the past.

3. None of this seems to be a problem with groups (?!?)

4. I created a new profile to see if it was limited to my account. Nope, same problem no bookmarks showed up in any tag, even when the bookmark clearly is tagged.

So it seems to only be effecting the tags and bookmarks entered today. But because I reimported ALL of my bookmarks today, i cant search for bookmarks under ANY tag!!!

PLEASE HELP!!

This is not a usual problem. I have been a user for sometime now and not experienced this. At the moment, however, I am finding this as well. It shows my bookmarks for a tag using the toolbar, but not on the web page. The tag list on the left does however show that I have 37 bookmarks tagged "journals".

Also and I imagine related. I added a bookmark which shows on the toolbar bookmark list, but not on the bookmark page.

I can see the pages for tags now. I still don't see the site I just bookmarked on the bookmark page, but I do on the toolbar dropdown.

Refreshed the toobar booksmarks and my addition disappeared from there too. Oh, well this happens. I'll just add it again.

Oh loyola THANK you for showing me I am not crazy!!

I am in a hyper craziness because I had SUCH plans for Diigo in terms of the RSS factors and the new groups... I have a ton of clients and wanted to consolidate all my research together for them... and I am so screwed.

I just emailed them at info@diigo.com because I did some nosing around. I searched through public bookmarks and i found that for ALL users, when ever they did a bookmark today, that bookmark would not show up under their tag, and if they created the tag today, clicking on that tag would result in "You have no bookmarks under [new tag]" So this is happening to everyone - but unless people did a serious amount of bookmarking today (I have been working on organizing 200 today) they wouldnt see it. But it causes major problems. No RSS feeds will be updated at all for any individuals on Diigo! You cant search any new bookmarks! *whiiiiiiiine*

I hope someone writes in soon!!

Click on ANY tag. They all will show the same message!

Sorry, I should have participated in the discussion earlier - was too busy with other tasks lately to answer the forum questions until now.

Sorry for the temporary hiccup & inconvenience. This is related to our list server that temporarily went down yesterday (being worked on), but should be fine now. We recently upgraded our search (last time it went down was during the upgrade period.) You should all notice a performance improvement since our recent upgrade. We will continue making our performance tuning a high priority to improve your overall user experience.

about sorting topic tags

Diigo is great tool in many ways but has a problem. The problem is that I feel discomfort about default adjustment of sorting topic tags.

Maybe some people feel comfort about frequency based sorting. But I prefer alphabetical sorting because I can find specific tag more easily. And I suppose many other people feel like me.

Now, to find a tag, I have to click sorting change button. And it's discomfort for me and the people who feel like me. So, I want diigo developers to make certain option that can change this default adjustment.

yes, several users have pointed this out. We will switch the default to alphabetical setting in the next day or so. But will soon offer a user preference setting to remember your personal preference to solve this issue once and for all.

Just wonder if you are devising a widget for Typepad blogs similar to Diigo My Tag section on the right side of My Bookmarks page with option view as cloud or list? I am aware you have Linkrolls but displaying the just the tags on my blog is would an option.
