Missing Floating/Sticky Notes icon

I don't know from when it started exactly (about month ago?) Sticky Icons gone. I have only plain number floating somewhere on page.
I checked Sticky note place with Firebug. Icon is in CSS style (and Firebug can display it) - but it is not displayed on page. Maybe some kind of security?

Image file (background:transparent url('chrome://diigotb/skin/float_icon.png') no-repeat 50% 50%;) is not displayed as blockable/blocked item in Adblock.

Firefox RC1 (3 PC's with same behavior), current Diigo toolbar.

Question in English: I'm using FF, and I cannot directly add sticky note -- it's greyed out.

Anwer:

For the regular in-situ sticky note, you need to highlight a block of text first. Then add sticky note.

Or you could use "Floating note" that is not associated with any text on the page, and allows you to freely position it anywhere on the page.

No, you don't have to bookmark it first. For those you start highlight / add sticky note, it will be marked as "no-tag" until you specify the tagging.

Sticky note location in different browsers

When I place a sticky note on a page in Firefox, IE7 shows the sticky note in a different place. Opera doesn't show the sticky note at all, sometimes. At other times, Firefox and Opera display the sticky notes in the correct place, but IE7 shows them in the wrong place. In one instance, IE7 would show the yellow sticky note bubble, but one comment was missing from that thread.

For instance, at www.online-guitar-sale.com, in Firefox I posted a comment at the top-left of the picture of the guy with the guitar. In IE7, the comment buble was several lines above the picture. In Opera, the comment was also up in the main header. Opera did not display the comment at all when I logged in under a different username (even though the username was part of a group that should have seen the comment).

My question: I have already invited two friends to sigh up with DIiigo, and then how can I make friens with them? I really intend to enjoy the public sticky notes. Thanks!

Currently, If your friends signed up diigo with the email address you sent the invitation email, they become to your friends automatically.

We know this is not convenient. However, You can have much more freedom to add and invite friends in the next release.

Wuping,Blawgo and Diigoor did't became to my friends , although they signed up with the email I sent the invitation email. I don't know if I made a mistake or this is a bug ？

Save or print with highlights and stickies visible

Hi ,

Diigo is a wonderful tool. Is there a way to print or save annotated webpages so that the stickies and highlights are visible? It seems that this would be a pretty common need for people using diigo for reserach, and who want to look at their work offline or on paper.

On a related note, any plans to put stickies and highlights in the cache? It's a real shame to lose annotations just because a webpage changes.

Agree and thanks for your input. We'll be offering more enhancements. Meanwhile, few things you can do now:

1) Extract (we will also further enhance more features here...)
2) Use search to pull out what you need, and use expand to display and print them
2) Export as CSV format

Annotation in cache - sometimes that will require more work - but it's on our agenda to discuss more here.

Yes, I agree as above ...Diigo is a really wonderful tool...and it would be nice too somehow to save our works.

Doubled Sticky text in MyGroup Bookmarks!

Hi Maggie!

When i open a page in browser (Firefox) from MyGroup/Bookmarks View and add a sticky (in rich text format) the text will be shown 2x in the MyGroup/Bookmarks Expanded View.

When i do same thing (as above) invoking the page from MyBookmarks then add a sticky then i share this page with my group the problem is same. The sticky text will shown 2x in the MyGroup/Bookmarks Expanded View.

Another problem: When i add new highlights or stickies from MyBookmarks the newly added higlights or stickies will not be sychronized in MyGroup Bookmarks Expanded View. I mean i can't see those newly added hihlights or stickies. When i do the same thing from MyGroup Bookmarks the MyBookmark Expanded View will be well synchronized.

Maggie! You know my Goup is private, so i will send you an invitation to be a goup member to your email to be allowed to make any view, try or edit in my group.

I just started using diigo and highlighted and left stickies a total of 15 times on this page. I restart my comp and browser and they are gone. I made sure to highlight and sticky the permalink page. What am I doing wrong?

I could reproduce your problem. However, the problem seems to be that the highlightings + stickies and the floating stickies are just not displayed on the webpage even though they are still there in some way. When I go to "My Bookmarks" ("My Diigo"), I can see they have been saved. Just click on "Expand" and you will see them. At least, that is what it is like here on my computer.

True here too. I was just disappointed not to have it all in the page instead of as individual pieces to expand and collapse. I guess i should go try a different type of website and see if it works better for me. I just didn't know if this would happen all the time and i did it all wrong. Thanks for looking at it.

Tanya, your disappointment was justified because this is not the way it is supposed to be. Normally, you should see the highlights and stickies directly on the webpage where you put them.

Yesterday, I added some highlights and sticky notes to the webpage you gave above and a couple of other webpages. I was not able to not see the highlights and the sticky notes on the webpage. I did that using (Portable) Firefox 1.5, so I thougth this problem may be related to the Firefox version or it may be a conflict of extensions. So, I tried a brand-new "installation" of (Portable) Firefox 2.0 today and it worked, that is I could see all highlights and sticky notes directly on the webpage. Then, I went back to (Portable) Firefox 1.5 and it worked as well. The problem was gone. I suppose it was only a temporary problem.

Do you still have the problem?

Oh wow!! I hadn't gone back up to the top since I checked it before as I am only about halfway done with the 300 or so debate comments. :P But I just rechecked and you are right. They are back!! That is totally awesome and now I can see this is just a terrific tool for me. Thank you so much for keeping on top of my question.... since I didn't even think to check it again myself.

Hi loyola,

When you're forwading someone an annotated page, your highlights and sticky notes will become the content of the email. So your friends will see what you have annotated. Also the url is included in the mail too. Once they click the url, they will see the webpage with a diigolet on it. However, as a non-user, they can't see your highlight and sticky notes directly on the webpage. Once they registered, it will show up to them.

I checked up in help and this is why I had the idea that they would see what I saw. The help page (http://www.diigo.com/help/forward/2) says "Clicking on the link takes the recipients to an annotated page identical to what you see. (So your private sticky notes and highlights will be seen by the recipients)"

Maggie,

Checked on both IE7 and Firefox and it seems to be ok now. Our bandwidth is pathetic so perhaps I was just being too impatient. With regards to your comments about what I am sharing, this really is what Diigo is all about. It enables to me a) Write research notes to myself and not have to worry about a hard drive crash, and b) share this info and get feedback.

I think you might in the next while gain several devotees from our Uni.
