RSS to closed groups from non-authenticated connection

When I try to use the RSS url for one of my non-public groups from within a personal non-public web site that aggregates content while I am "away", it receives nothing. Does this mean that those RSS urls only work from within an authenticated browser session, even with that long "coded" url? If so, is there any way around this?

Could you try to copy and paste the coded URL in your browser and see whether you can see the Rss feed in your browser? Please also tell us the date of the latest bookmark item in this group.

Tags should be entered as multiple category elements, that's what category is for.

Each bookmark should have it's own pubDate set to the original date it was bookmarked

The Description element should only have the comments and/or annotations

You should add the dc namespace, and specify the dc:creator on each link -- this way you can enable exporting from groups without loosing this information.

You could also set the GUID to the diigo annotated link (which is unique, I believe?)

If any Diigo users are also users of FeedDemon (RSS reader for Windows) you might be interested in adding Diigo search directly to FeedDemon. you can do this by:

1. Browsing to C:\Program Files\FeedDemon\Data\search
2. Copy an exisitng file, and rename it to "Diigo.fdsrch2"
3. Open the file in Notepad and replace the contents of the file with the following.

You will now have access to the Diigo full text search engine from within FeedDemon. I may see if I can combine other search features as well.

I have not tried yet. I understand that there may be an API, or a standard web based URL interface for saving a a bookmark soon, which will make this a bit easier. I don't think it can be done with the existing tools. Diigo folks? FeedDemon has an integration feature that uses a URL based method to add a bookmark to Diigo. Here is an example of hat FeedDemon uses for Del.icio.us looks like, can we do this for Diigo?

Thanks, but I think this URL is for search, what I am looking for is to actually post a new bookmark to Diigo Basically in FeedDemon you can have an article selected, FeedDemon will grab the title and url, and pass it to the bookmarking service.

I have created a SendTo definition for Diigo users to use in FeedDemon. It allows you to use FeedDemon's SendTo feature to bookmark an article in Diigo. The file can be downloaded from My SkyDrive account using the link below. You need to put the file into the SendTo folder for FeedDemon, which should be C:\Program Files\FeedDemon\Data\SendTo.

Hope it works for everyone.

Private highlight showing up on RSS feeds

When I subscribe to my bookmarks via RSS, ALL the annotations on the public bookmarks show up in my reader--including the annotations I have marked private. Serious problem for me.

Any chance of this getting fixed soon?

Importing from Plum.com (Shoebox)?

I've been using Plum.com as my main social bookmarking service. As I give Diigo a try, I'm looking for a way to import my Plum.com content into Diigo. However, I haven't found a way to import the contents of an RSS feed into Diigo (or to subscribe to feeds within Diigo), and Plum.com doesn't seem to export to a plain HTML bookmarks file.
Any thought on how I could do this?

Killer Feature Request: Import RSS Feeds as Bookmarks

Diigo is fantastic, but I wish Diigo could automatically "bookmark" (import rss feeds) my latest shared items from Google Reader, favorite YouTube videos, StumbleUpon items, etc. Then I wouldn't need FriendFeed and I would benefit from being able to tag and share those items just like I can with my regular Diigo bookmarks!

Down the road, it would be cool to have automatic semantic tagging of the bookmarked/imported content like Twine.com.

Just a note:

Thanks SO much for fixing the RSS issue of comments and sticky notes not coming through on Lists. Thought I would drop a line that in the feeds for bookmarks in groups, the highlights and sticky notes come through just great, but the comments do not. However, because the comment ITSELF does not come through BUT the little text phrase "posted by" does come through, it looks like a simple merge problem to me. Someone just forgot to pop in that merge field (for lack of better vocabulary, sorry)

LOVE Diigo!!!

One other thought - I am sure it just got lost somewhere - the ability to move an item from one list to another. No option for "Add to List" is available when you are already in a list. you have to travel to the bookmarked link and use the toolbar. makes organizing lists a little difficult.

Just a small suggestion:

With the POWERFUL tools on feeds and feed management that DIIGO has to offer, I suggest we flesh this out just a tad more...

Google reader really hit it off in the reviews and the subscribers with the 'shared' feeds option - mostly because people could choose the best of their feeds and republish them. Basically, they mark each article in the feed reader that they want to share, and a feed is set up just of those articles. Made a huge advance on other feed readers that way.

There are many reasons for this - but here is what i think the most compelling is - SPEED. people who like feeds (this is growing exponentially by the way) are people who are too busy to go website to website. Google Reader's function of marking articles and sharing articles from many feeds republished into one feed allows people to subscribe to others shared feed, and take the speed even farther. we dont have to search through all the sites because we have feeds, then we dont have to search through all the feeds because we can subscribe to shared feeds that include the best articles of our interest feed into one feed... enter DIIGO. Diigo can not only share the articles of a particular interest by tag rss - DIIGO folk can actually just clip the important clips of the articles. Its the fastest speed yet - the key points of the key articles of the key feeds of the topic of interest.

DIIGO has their own spin on this with what you already offer - rss feeds on groups, lists, and tags. It applies to this same excited niche of people who like to republish articles in a feed, but actually goes so many steps farther because our users actually comment on those articles with highlights and stickies. The RSS feed that comes from any given tag (or now lists and community) is extremely customized and only covers clips of the article - the bottom line of the article - which is yet another speed factor.

Ok, so what am i getting at???

I really think with all the feed ability DIIGO has could ride this wave because it is the same niche but no well designed competing products. I desperately need a MY FEEDS section!!! Somewhere where I can manage the feeds from my lists, groups, tags, etc. Rename them as news wires, offer them as publications for all those people out there looking for the bottom line of any given topic delivered directly to them. Once we can easily turn our feeds into publications on niches that focus on the bottom line that all busy people desperately need to get to, I think DIIGO could grow leaps and bounds. There you have firmly launched and expansion far beyond just bookmarking, slides, and research - but right into web design, marketing, and so much more.

Just my thoughts. :)

Some things I would want in a "My Feeds" Section:

1. The ability to have a section where I publicize my feeds. For example, I can have a tag that is Nonprofit Tools. I can have a tag that was "Newsletters". Therefore, anything I tagged both "Nonprofit Tools" and "Newletters" can as of right now be it's own feed. For each bookmark, I go through the process of bookmarking the site or article, highlighting important content, and commenting (sticky) on that highlight. This means that for each article I would be able to sift out the really important bottom line and apply my own expertise to the bottom line. As of right now, this comes into my feed reader as a really informative source, looking a lot like a newsletter about the best of Nonprofit Tools online.

I would love to have a section on my profile that showed all the feeds that I really wanted to highlight as a publication - like the example above. As of right now, all that information is in a notebook I am keeping for when I launch a site on this topic. On my site, I will have a subscription page of feeds that are really just bookmarks with a lot of highlighting and comments - but they look like a Commentary Newsletter.

2. We need to be able to rename a particular feed and add a description to it. Rather than just suzannah's bookmarks on nonprofit tools + newsletters, which is what the title would be at this point, I would be able to reburn the feed as "Suzannah's Nonprofit Tools Newsletters". This would REALLY be able to allow website designers and bloggers a new and profoundly useful tool in Diigo for republishing on their sites.

As of right now, I have to reburn every feed into Feeddemon to change the title and description.

3. ***** (this is really important) Also, we desperately need the ability to adjust feeds so that when a bookmark is "read", it doesnt automatically disappear from the feed. In order for me to publish any feed right now, all my bookmarks have to be "unread". This negates a lot of usefulness in feeds! (think i should write a post about this separately, I guess)

4. Under My Feeds, which of course would be public in most cases, I would be able to give a description of a feed, what kind of links are in it and what kind of commentary, and other users would be able to pick the best subscriptions for them. The best entry for a feed would include feed title, feed tags, feed description, and most importantly, a button leading to the new list feature, which would (as i already can but is underutilized) turn that feed into a slide list so that the potential users/subscribers could see what was in the feed.

These are just some thoughts...

Did you know that well over half of the requests seen by del.icio.us are for RSS feeds? That means that people cruising around our site in browsers are actually in the minority, when it comes down to raw traffic. Instead, our heaviest hitters include personalized home pages, desktop news aggregators, and even stranger things.

With that in mind, it makes sense to remember that small changes can have a big impact. Thus, given that our feeds have been doing a decent job this far, they haven't changed much from their austere beginnings.

Decent isn't great, though. So, as the team's semi-official (and published!) feed junkie, I've been working on some small improvements. I've been looking into how our feeds are used and how to better streamline and present our information in different contexts. These improvements include features like:

* including tag descriptions in feed titles and descriptions where available;
* offering the ability to save bookmarks straight from your feed reader;
* displaying an up-to-date count of saves, without making items appear new again in feed readers;
* building more useful feed content with links to people, tags, and more bookmark details;
* providing more metadata where it seems useful, or less where it appears redundant.

And, this is just the start. We're rolling these changes out gradually, on a per-user-agent basis, and we're planning for more. So, if you don't see any improvements in your favorite feed reader yet—or if the changes haven't quite hit their mark for you—be sure to contact us and let us know!

I really like that you are using diigo's annotation features to produce newsletter-like feeds.

Have you checked out our lists and webslides features? It seems to offer much of what you want for publishing, such as title and description. please let me know if that works for you.

I know I'm late to this discussion, but wanted to go on record as saying that I hope the new release includes PRIVATE RSS ADDRESSES (a la Google Calendar and many of the other online productivity apps.)

I don't think a user should have to make his/her bookmarks public in order to embed them into feed readers, Firefox, or widgets. Of course, being able to do so by tag, list, etc. would be most excellent, but even just a single straight feed of all saved bookmarks would be a big step in the right direction.

There are several ways to go about this.

You can keep your bookmarks private, but you can add them to a list or a group. You can then use the rss address of the list or the group to publish elsewhere.

You can do this even if the group is private . In the new release, a private list will also have a secret rss address.

Hope these solve your needs.

This is not the case.

If a bookmark is private, and then it is placed in a list, it will not show up in the RSS feed. If it is converted to public, than it WILL show up in the RSS feed.

The only difference is that if a comment is marked private on a public bookmark, the private comment will appear in the RSS feed of a public bookmark residing on a private list. But, as Tom says above, the bookmarks must be public to show up on the private list's RSS feed - even with the new release.

rss limited to 20 entries

I need an rss feed with ALL my links. But it seems to limit me to 20, which is useless to me. Is there anything that I can do to get an rss feed of all my links?
What I want to do is keep up with my bookmarks in google reader. I just want one place to see all the stuff I need to read. But google reader won't keep up with my bookmarks. Not sure why it couldn't do that too. So the answer seems simple, just create a feed of all my bookmarks, and point google reader at it. But all of the social bookmarking sites have problems with their rss feeds. Google has some kind of problem indexing delicious feeds. And the ones here at Diigo only give the last 20. I need an rss feed of them all, because I want to see them all in google reader. For the one off bookmarks this seems fine even though there seems to be a delay on pulling them into the reader. But I imported 200 into Diggo, and only the last 20 show up. and I can't do anything to pull out a feed that shows more than 20.

I was awaiting this feature but now that I have Ver 3 installed I find that my RSS feeds are still limited to 20 entries. Was this implemented? Do I need to configure something?

Feature Request RSS:: The importance of "read" and "unread"

Sorry for all the posts, I am just heavily working on Diigo today. I dont know if this is a feature request or perhaps a bug, so i thought i would just let you know.

This request is in regards to the fact that if a bookmark is "read", then it doesnt appear in the RSS feed. So if you want to publish an rss feed on a site, you have to keep all the bookmarks on that feed "unread", which eliminates your ability to use the read/unread feature for what i think it was intended for.

RSS Bug Report of Tags

I've noticed an error in translation of tags to RSS having to do with tags that are two words separated by a space with quotes around them. This has to do with the following: When you want to translate a space into a url, a "+" happens to be the way to signify space. However, Diigo just happens to have the fabulous function where a plus sign ALSO means that it is the narrowing down of a tag to the inclusion of other tags. Here is a good example.

As you know, If I tag this Diigo Group as:

"Diigo Communities"

then the link to the "Diig Communities" tags would be:

http://www.diigo.com/user/suzannah/"diigo+communities"

and would be translated in a web browser to be

http://www.diigo.com/user/suzannah/%22diigo+communities%22

great coding on your part. we just need to do the same for rss. Here's the important part: The RSS for a tag "Diigo Communities" SHOULD be:

http://www.diigo.com/rss/user/Suzannah/"diigo+communities"

and, like above, thus be translated in a web browser to be:

http://www.diigo.com/rss/user/Suzannah/%22diigo+communities%22

However, the RSS url next to a tab doesnt have the necessary format of

http://www.diigo.com/rss/user/Suzannah/"diigo+communities"

as stated above. Instead, the format is

http://www.diigo.com/rss/user/Suzannah/diigo+communities

This means that when you click the RSS url for a tag that has a space in it, Diigo is looking for bookmarks tagged BOTH the first word and the second word, instead of both together. For example, the RSS url for "Diigo Communities" is currently the exact same url of a feed that has both the tag "Diigo" AND the tag "Communities". So when I post a feed for "Diigo Communities" , Diigo is looking for bookmarks that have the single word tag "Diigo" as well as the single word tag "Communities".

In summary, the url for the RSS feed of a tag that is made up of two words and a space needs to have the quotes around it much like the url of the same tag has the quotes.

Does this make sense?

RSS format

the current RSS contains the following content, for example:

Can you move "tags" and "Posted by" parts to the bottom of the content instead of putting them ahead of the description part, it's very unusable when subscribing with some briefing-based RSS readers like Anothr.com, or Twitterfeeds.com to feed into Twitter, etc. The limitation of the abstraction length could leave no space for description.

Format: sometimes it could work for user A, but not user B. If we change it for user B, then user A may not be thrilled. We will take a look again of other services RSS format to evaluate.

Any input from other users?

1. for Diigo, the most important theme is the "highlighted" part, then it should be the first presented content
2. for many content, people wont' set tags, the "tag" part will be mostly left blank, it's quite space wasting
3. the "posted by xxx" is almost unnecessary because of the subscriber definitely understand the context of whose RSS, anyway, it's can be coded as

The 3. item didn't display properly in this forum because I posted some XML there.
for any RSS format, both tag, author information are coded as an XML element instead of putting all stuff into "Description" part. Try to take a look at the RSS 2.0 spec.

It's not User A, or User B problem, it's a defacto.

RSS Feeds not working properly

The RSS feature only seems to work on my main bookmark page. When I either create a list or just a filter on a tag the RSS feed is empty. Has anyone had this problem? Any solution to the problem?

hello,
is it possible to reset the state of a bookmark in the rss stream if someone reply to a sticky note ?
I share my rss with some friends with google reader, and we share bookmarks this way. But if someone reply, we only know that with the daily mail.
The forum is nice, but I'd like to use the most powerful feature of diigo, sticky note :)

We will have a new "Alert" feature in the next version that allows you to set the alert setting to let you to easily monitor activities on a page instantly. So stay tuned..

we read exclusively rss feeds, we never go to diigo groups page.
we'like to chat on the page we share, and we'd like to be inform thru rss when a new comment is added to the page so we can check the answer and reply to it.

I'm eager to see the rew alert feature :)

Hi,

I recently moved my news stream from spurl.net to a dedicated Diigo-Group (http://groups.diigo.com/groups/webnews). I used to syndicate my blog and news streams via Yahoo! pipes, wich worked without bigger problems.

Unfortunately, it seems that the Diigo RSS-stream of my group does not include the publication date (pubDate) tag, so it's not possible to get the syndicated stream into a chronological order. Here's my syndication pipe: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=7DkNcH_N2xGnslySrscPhQ

Is there any solution for this problem, or do I have missed something?
