I got this Diigo note on March 12 dated Feb 22 from "locative" stating "Hi, I've got access to your gmail interface, jojojo...". Naturally, I've now got to uninstall diigo to close what looks like a security hole.

locative is a member ofdiigo and contributor to this forum.

Anyone else have this happen?

Hi Brian,

I can't access to your URL. So, I can't guess your trouble. Please tell us more information. I believe it is not relate to this group member, just 'spoofing' or like that.

Thanks for your post. First, please rest assured that there is no security issue here whatsoever at all-

The comment you saw was just a general public sticky note comment to a URL ( here is http://mail.google.com/mail/) and nothing more. Neither diigo team members nor diigo users can access your gmail information.

Jose wrote a "joking" message & it's not quite appropriate; thus this kind of misunderstanding. He's a great user, so I'm sure it was not "intentional".... We're sorry about any concern that this may have caused.

This is what we consider "junk/spam" message, and we certainly encourage users' active reporting of inappropriate public comments, so we can all do our part to keep the diigo community free of junk / spam. .

By the way, we have removed that public comment.

Signing up Students

I would love to use diigo with my students, but I need to be able to monitor their activity online. One way that I do that is to have them add their name to a class gmail email address using the + sign (gmailuser+studentname@gmail.com). When I do that for student signup, I get the message that that email is already in use. I have NOT used the original gmail address for my account. Is there any way around this error?

I'm still looking for some thoughts on this......anyone? :)

We'd like to do a special group support for teachers signing up students. However, we won't be able to get to it in a few more weeks after we roll out our next release (our most pressing priority now.)

Meanwhile, not sure why gmail+ system not working - will ask our engineer to see if this is a quick fix. If not, it'd have to wait a little bit.

Please drop me a note at info at diigo dot com to understand your need better.

Our engineer made a quick fix - please try gmail+ feature again and advise.

This is a good workaround / tip for other teachers.

I thought you might be interested in what I'm hoping to do with a Diigo group at the Thompson Library at the University of Michigan-Flint. I'm planning to create links to tags in my group (UM-Flint Thompson Library), and encourage students to set up accounts, bookmark sites, save them to the group, annotate bookmarks, etc. This way, students can help build my library's collection of websites, but I'll be able to exercise editorial control. My group tags haven't been working well (my individual tags work fine), so I'm hoping there's a fix in the works or that v.3 will take care of the problem.

Librarians and educators seem to be increasingly interested in social bookmarking, and although del.icio.us is more well known, I think Diigo has the potential to blow them out of the water, especially in educational settings.

wonder what you mean by monitoring them? other ways for you to consider are to add them as your friends or to a group

I need to know what students are doing while online and to keep them safe from people outside the school environment while online.

Yes - there's a topic about this at http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum/topic/1563. Basically, any tags I added to my group's bookmarks after about 10/18/2007 don't work, whether they are new bookmarks or old bookmarks that I tried adding tags to. For example, on my last group bookmark (added today), I used these tags: columnists, economics, and political_science. If I click economics, I get a "no bookmarks" message. If I click columnists or political_science, I get bookmarks, but only ones I bookmarked on or before 10/18. Not even the bookmark with the clicked tag shows up. My group is at http://groups.diigo.com/groups/thompsonlibrary if you want to see for yourself, but it also seems to be a problem in this group, as well as some others. The tags in my user bookmarks work fine.

UPDATE: The tags work now. Is the problem fixed permanently? I'd like to proceed with urging students to join my group.
