Only Furl topics get imported as tags instead of keywords

Hi,

I wanted to transfer all my Furl bookmarks to Diigo but there was one major problem:
At Furl, there are topics, which are kind of like folders and there are keywords, which are the actual equivalent to tags. When I imported my Furl bookmarks into Diigo, only the topics were imported as tags and no keywords at all.

Is there any way how I can import my Furl bookmarks into Diigo with the keywords becoming the tags?

I found another post here dealing with that same problem and a tip by Daniel Gauthier. He suggests a workaround solution by using Blinklist as an intermediary service to which Furl bookmarks can be imported with all tags and from which the bookmarks can then be imported into Diigo.
I tried this and it failed (Importing failed - Please make sure that bookmarks file is correct and contains your bookmarks.) It definitely is the correct XML file, so I don't know what the problem is.

Any other solutions to get my Furl bookmarks into Diigo with all the tags?

Hi,

First of all, congratulations on your new release, it's great to see how much positive feedback you're getting, and it's well deserved. The sidebar as well is a really grat and really useful idea.

One question though; what happened the simultaneous bookmarking to Yahoo MyWeb, Furl, and Spurl? I did use them, and it was a really nice feature to have.

Hi Brendan,
Some sites don't provide APIs or their APIs are not stable, so the toolbar must simulate user log-ining and bookmark submitting process in previous version. However, it is very buggy or unstable and we need to build toolbar very often because those sites do constant changes :((. Then we changed it to server side and support only those providing APIs.

Save Elsewhere only lists 3 sites

Save Elsewhere now only has 3 choices - del.icio.us, simpy and ma.gnolia. I used to be able to save to
Furl as well, now it's not one of the choices.
Is it coming back?

We didn't find the Furl APIs, so it's hard to save to Furl.

Hi Joel,

It's a shock to find an "upgrade" that takes away features with no warning. Is it possible to go back to the previous version?

Before Diigo, I used other "scripts/bookmarklets" that allowed me to save to del.icio.us and Furl, among others, simultaneously. These were written by individuals, so it wouldn't seem to be that hard.

FYI - Without the ability to save to del.icio.us and Furl, I would not have tried Diigo - too much of a downside - too much extra work to save to different places so I could go back if I didn't like Diigo.

Since I've been using Diigo, I like it and now have to decide if I like it enough to lose Furl.

Not all Furl bookmarks imported

I am trying to import from Furl (by providing my Furl username and password), but diigo only imports 30 something bookmarks out of the 150 or so that I have in Furl.

Any ideas?

Furl didn't provide API, so the imports feature may not stable enough. To work around it:
1. Export furl bookmarks manually and import them in to your FF/IE bookmarks.
2. Use Diigo toolbar to import bookmarks in FF/IE into your diigo account

I found the problem - Furl does not export bookmarks which are marked as private. For anyone else that wants to export from Furl to Diigo (or any other app), make sure your Furl bookmarks are marked as public and also make sure the Furl topics that those bookmarks belong to are also marked as public.

The only other discrepency between the Furl bookmark count and the imported bookmark count was due to duplicated bookmarks (identical URLs).

I've been trying to import a large furl archive into diigo, but even though the import page says that my furl tags will be imported as well, they never appear in diigo (there's just no_tag). Does anyone know what might be the matter here?

I know that when i bookmark with Diigo to other accounts everything goes fine except for Furl.
They don't recognize the tags that we give with Diigo.
Can it be a vice-versa situation? Like tit for tat?

Hm, my guess is they aren't proactively doing anything like that, because they don't seem to be doing much at all over at Furl. They don't reply to support requests, and there are other lapses I've noticed. They seem uninterested, and I think they may be dying on the vine. So I'm guessing no. Hm. Wonder what's up over there.

Oh, i remember writing in to Furl a few years and they did eventually answer.
They're not the only ones that seem to be or are really stagnant.
Spurl seems to be going nowhere. No more support, no more plenty of things except for the bookmarking feature.

Diigo is by far the most responsive and innovative at the present time!

That's right, I've tried simultaneously bookmarking to furl with diigo, and it didn't work. I'd really like to move my furl archive to diigo, but it contains 3000+ elaborately tagged items that we use for work purposes -we simply haven't got the time go over each item again to assign tags anew. Diigo looks much cleaner and offers wonderful possibilities for collaboration that we're dying to try out, if we can just keep those furl tags...

I've tried exporting the furl archive to other bookmarking services supported by diigo, thinking I might then import the items into diigo from there and keep the tags, but the furl tags simply refuse to come along to ANY other service. Agh. If anyone knows a way around this, please let me know!

Seeing that you tried opening an account with del.icio.us or another, did you try all the options available in Furl, like to the ZIP archive one?

I've been trying to combine the various furl options with various diigo-supported bookmarking services for about a day now, and nothing has worked so far. The furl tags simply don't come along, whatever option or bookmarking service I use. Hell, they don't come along even when I import a furl-generated netscape bookmarks file into Netscape itself. I can see the keywords in the source of the file, they're there, but nothing seems to import them. I wonder if anyone else has had any success exporting furl tags to services like del.icio.us or connotea?

(I'm not sure how I could export the ZIP archive to any other service. It's just a bunch of html files -not a format that can be imported, is it?)

I just went over to Blinklist and they have a specific Furl import feature via their XML file.

That actually worked, after replacing all the many many spaces in the Furl keywords with underscores -they became a mess otherwise. We're up and running at last. I have no words. If you ever need to know anything related to Japanese manga and/or the use thereof in education and on the web, drop a note and we'll give you anything you want ;)

Hi,

I have configured "Simultaneous Bookmarking" for del.icio.us, Yahoo MyWeb and furl.net.
Del.icio.us, Yahoo MyWeb seems work well, but nothing happens to my furl.net account, I don't see any new items in my furl.net archives.

I'm sure I have logged in to furl.net, is there anything else need to be done?

Hi, been trying all day to import from Furl, but I always get an error from Diigo that says "Oops, server busy. Try again later."

Is everyone else getting the same message? Is the server actually busy, or is something else happening?

I hope someone can help.

Furl changed some code and caused the problem. We changed our import method accordingly. It works now. Please try it again.

Sorry, it only worked on our testing server last time. We deployed it on www.diigo.com just now. Please try it and tell me whether it's ok.

It seems like it went a step further this time, but in the end, my bookmark count only went up by about 150 (from ~1639 to ~1793), even though I have 10,434 bookmarks in furl that could've been imported.
