Not quite. The Diigo plugin prevents viewing of comments on Digg. It also breaks the Firefox Download Statusbar Plug-In.

Diigo may be more advanced, but Del.icio.us doesn't screw the browser display up. Until they get the plug-in working properly, I'm back to the more compatible Del.icio.us plug-in.

I'm not using Digg. It looks like some conflict with Diigo's jQuery and Digg's jQuery. Is this trouble bug-reported here?

Also I'm not using Download statusbar plugin, because Firefox 3 already have nice statusbar info about download progress.

Diigo latest toolbar works with FF3.

We use jQuery in an unobtrusive way so that it doesn't conflict with other jQuery instances in the web pages. In fact, jQuery was inspired by the technique and now encloses all the code in an anonymous function.

The conflict with digg.com is caused by a blank css style sheet we insert. digg's javascript tries to access a rule without checking for presence first.

We resolved the conflict with digg.com. There will be an update soon.

We also looked into the conflict with Download Statusbar extension in early May. It is caused by a regression bug in Firefox 3. I discussed the issue with Devon Jensen (author of Download Statusbar) in email and he submitted a bug here https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432384
Obviously Firefox didn't get the bug fixed before releasing 3.0.

We are trying to fix all known conflicts.
Please wait for our next update.

I installed FireFox 3.0 and came here. When I tried to sign in, FireFox crashed. It continues to do so each time I try to sign in. I had to use Flock in order to leave this comment. :-(

So right now, I can't use Diigo with FireFox at all.

I'm using no extensions except Diigo. I would not have upgraded FireFox had i not been told here that it would work. I did not want to be without a working Diigo + browser.

What is the fix?

I can't reproduce that :( Sign out, sign in, without any troubles and crashes.

I have Firefox 3 running on Ubuntu/Hardy Heron.

Went today to http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/2192/brendel.html. Found that Firefox hung up if I clicked on any of the links on the page. Tried on other browsers (Opers, Seamonkey - no problem). I disabled my Firefox extensions (Diigo, FireFTP, Ubuntu extension). Problem disappeared. Re-enabled the extensions one at a time. The problem was the Diigo extension. Without it, the page links worked normally. With it, clicks on the link led to Firefox freezing completely.

PS Just noticed that the page contains a Java applet. Could be that the Diigo extension and the applet argue with one another.

If i disable the Diigo extension - THEN I can sign in without a problem.

I'm on an intel Mac, OS X, FireFox 3.0 with no extensions except Diigo.
- now disabled.

Hi Helaine and other Mac users,
The problem was caused by a Firefox bug in mac version. However, we found a way to work around it. You can update to the latest diigo toolbar (Version: 3.1.5.8) which solved the problem.

Diigo asks me to sign in more than once per session... It's anoying to have to stop and sign in so often.

Why is diigo limiting sign-in period? Why isn't it persistent like del.icio.us or Facebook (which remain even past the session)? If you don't think this is good for all users, then at least make it an option some users can use.

If diigo really wants to be a bookmarking system, then it should allow for persistent sign in: imagine if Firefox asked you to sign in to your bookmarks...

Totally agree with you. I came on here trying to see if there were any solutions to this in the work. Doing research papers is quite frustrating when you are trying to read something about 10 pages long and have to sign in about 3 or 4 times to keep highlighting. They need to fix this. please? :)

UPDATE: It has been more than 1 month and the issue remains with FireFox RC3.

Can you please let me know what the issue is or if you plan on doing something about this annoyance.

Oh, I am sorry to miss your post.

We never limit the sign-in period. We're looking into the diigolet issue. BTW, you can install the diigo toolbar http://www.diigo.com/tools which allows for persistent sign in.

Page is bookmarked in my group with group floating annotation.

I see floating icon and existing annotations. I can add comment on page but it is not saved - just disappears. It is same for floating sticky editor and sidebar too. Comment target is group, not public or private).

Only way that is working is adding comment directly on Diigo's group page.

Integration with the FF3 Star

Is there an option to integrate Diigo with the star used to bookmark sites in FF3? Its a funky new feature and it always looks so tempting to click it!
(to be honest i mostly highlight and use right click, but still, it'd be nice)

Alternatively, I've noticed that the Read It later extension added a small grey tick next to the star. Maybe diigo could have an option to add a small icon,

FF3 star also indicates whether the page is bookmarked in Firefox. It may bring some confusions to users. However, we'd love to hear more opinions on this issue.

BTW, Diigo toolbar will have a better read it later function soon.

diigolet doesn't sing in...

I'm having problems signing in with the diigolet. I'm using firefox 3, the latest diigolet available and openID. I did the usual clear cache stuff.

The funny thing is that the diigolet succeeds on diigo.com and fails to sing in on every other site/page. When it fails a dialog shows with the url http://toolbar3.diigo.com requesting for a user name and password - and I can't enter the openID there.

Is there some solution for this?

Cannot get the latest toolbar to work in the new public release of Firefox 3.0. When i sign in, the program crashes. The Digolet is working fine, so that's what I'm using, but I miss the functionality of the toolbar, particularly the sidebar. Has anyone descovered how to make it work in FF3?

Hi there,

I am using Firefox 2.0.0.14 and downloaded the toolbar add-on directly from the diigo site. After I installed it I get two major problems.
1) One is, whenever I open a knew window, I get a message saying the some scripts on this page don't run and that I should stop them or try to re-run the script. I always choose "stop". This message keeps coming 10 and more times then and it takes around five minutes until the window finally opens. What's wrong??
2) Also, the diego toolbar isn't visible. The only thing I have in the browser is a symbol "diigo-sign in". Clicking it has no effect whatsoever and I am already signed in. When I rightclick on the toolbar and choose "adjust" (my firefos is in German so I dunno if that is exactly the English command), I can see the complete diigo toolbar. Yet when I close the adjust window it disappears again.

Anybody knows what is happening here?

We'd like to look into the issue. Maybe diigo toolbar conflicts with some other extensions. Could you create a new Firefox profile, try diigo toolbar in it and tell us the result?

Hi there,

It seems your hunch was right. I deactivated other add-ons in firefox. Through trial and error I figured out it is the megaupload toolbar add-on that is causing the trouble.

Hi Diigo team,

one thing I don't understand, is why you haven't implemented to option of hiding / "deleting" the "Diigo" menu, that is "installed" into the navigation toolbar of Mozilla Firefox / Flock after installting the "diigo toolbar" ? Because I think this was criticized several times! At least from my side. ;)

So, PLEASE do make an option available in the toolbar options to hide this one!
Because I try to use as much space for fast access bookmark icons (I can send you a screenshot) or at least do not waste the space with navigation bar items, I don't need!
I hid all except "File" and currently "Bookmarks" (will hide this maybe soon too) and now only "Diigo" and "Delicios" resides there! I don't know how to bring the del.icio.us toolbar developers to reason ;), but I think you shouldn't handle this issue as bad as del.icio.us itself does. ;)

I'm totally happy and content with the possibilities available via the diigo icon, so I think, one should be able to hide the other stuff if needed, as I can also do it with the icons.

firefox very slow after diigo install? known issue..??

I'm new to Diigo world and have GREAT results so far.

Since I've installed Diigo plugin in Firefox (latest today -- 2.0.0.14) I've noticed a period "drag" to performance of firefox and related browsing tasks.

Example:
Control+t (new tab) takes forever
Control+n (new browser window) often delayed

Is there a recommended was to configure DIIGO options to have smallest impact on Firefox broswer experience?

Any insight would be appreciated. I'll likely have to un-install if this continues. Thanks -GA

I don't know from when it started exactly (about month ago?) Sticky Icons gone. I have only plain number floating somewhere on page.
I checked Sticky note place with Firebug. Icon is in CSS style (and Firebug can display it) - but it is not displayed on page. Maybe some kind of security?

Image file (background:transparent url('chrome://diigotb/skin/float_icon.png') no-repeat 50% 50%;) is not displayed as blockable/blocked item in Adblock.

Firefox RC1 (3 PC's with same behavior), current Diigo toolbar.

Since the last toolbar auto update, virtually nothing is working.

Neither the sidebar nor the 'recommended tags' in a new bookmark dialog populate, bookmarked pages are not indicated in the toolbar, and new bookmarks are not sent.

Everything is working as expected in FF 2.0.0.12 on the same computer, so it doesn't seem to be a connectivity issue on my ed.

With a new profile:

New bookmarks are now createable, which was of course the main problem, and the 'recommended tags' populates, . Bookmarked pages are indicated in the toolbar again too. Sticky notes have made a return.

The sidebar is still a little dodgy: It works for some pages, but for some it just sits spinning at 'loading'. If I click the annotations link and back to readers, it's then populated. This seems to only be on pages with a lot of bookmarks: The Diigo home page for instance, and the firefox default start page.

I also just noticed that the 'search' feature now works again (in my broken profile, there are no entries in the menu.

Wow, your forum software just ate my really long and detailed reply :)

I'll try write it all out again, sorry it's kind of long. All these issues are 100% reproducible for me.

1) I click bookmark on this page. The dialog opens, and under the 'Tags:' field is the spinner and the text "Loading recommended tags...". This never completes, and the spinner never stops animating.

If I fill in the dialog myself, and click 'Save', the dialog closes but no bookmark is created on the site.

2) I click bookmark on a page that I already have bookmarked. The dialog does not populate with the existing information, it looks just like 1). Edits made here also do not save to the site. None of these pages are indicated by the bookmark icon turning red either.

3) I open the sidebar on a page that has bookmarks and annotations. On the tab 'Readers' is the spinner and the text 'loading...'. This never completes, and no results ever show up. Under 'Annotations' there are no results. I can click the 'Add Comment' button there, and a comment is created, but navigating away from the page in any fashion results in the comment disappearing. The exact same happens for sticky notes: I can create them, only as long as the page is not refreshed.

4) In the sidebar, the 'My Bookmarks' tab, there are no results shown at all. Just the heading 'My Bookmarks' and nothing under it.

5) The 'Search' toolbar field does not work. The menu under the 'web' button beside it is empty but for a splitter, 'customize' and 'clear search history'. The right click menu contains only 'customize'. Entering a search term and pressing enter or clicking the button has no effect, no search is performed.

6) The 'Message' indicator is steadily incrementing. It's up to 80 currently, from 74 yesterday. There are no messages for me on the website, I set it to 'friends only' when the spam started rolling in, and I don't actually have any friends on the site (yet!)

All of these work correctly in the new profile.

This one is Windows XP. The only other machines I have are FreeBSD, but none of those have FF 3 beta on (nor the diigo toolbar installed - this seems to only happen on an upgrade, not a fresh install, so it's a little hard for me to reproduce from scratch with no access to the previous version to try an upgrade from.

Upgrading the toolbar.

It's broken exactly the same way for two users on this computer, both updated from the same previous version. It works fine for any number of new profiles I create under either user.

I don't have FF 3 beta on the FreeBSD machines, and they don't have Diigo installed on the FF 2 instances. I'd be willing to build the beta, but since this seems to be related to updates of the toolbar, I'm not sure that would help.

My response just got eaten by the forum. Oh well, here goes again ...

To test whether it's only Diigo toolbar UPGRADES that are causing this issue I just uninstalled the Diigo toolbar, restarted Firefox 3.05b, reinstalled the toolbar, and then restarted Firefox 3.05b again. This did not resolve the problem.

I then downloaded Firefox 2 and the toolbar started working again.

I don't know what the actual problem is, all I know is that Diigo better get to work beta-testing Firefox 3 with their toolbar to make sure that either the toolbar gets fixed or FF3 gets fixed (if the problem is something to do with FF itself.)

As for me I guess I'm stuck using FF 2 for the time being.

1) clear your FF private data

2) go to C:\Documents and Settings\(your

please go to windows explore, tools === > Option === > view == > hidden /
show == > show all docs. Then, please check the corresponding name

The default location of the Firefox profile for Mac is ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/xxxxxxxx.default/.

Go to FF 3 ==> Tools ===> Options ==>Privacy tab ==> Check accept third party cookies .

While I greatly appreciate that you tracked this down to a cause, I'm not quite entirely happy.

There are serious privacy concerns with 3rd party cookies, and it is not without good reason that the preference returned to FF 3 (and is not only present now in nearly all other mainstream browsers, but the default in some.)

Whatever technical problem you are solving with this was clearly not necessary before the update that caused this problem, I would really appreciate if you could at least put taking another look at the solution for alternate solutions on the developer todo lists.

The cookiesafe firefox extension can probably mitigate some of the privacy risk, krazykiwi. It's like a noscript extension for cookies. You can decide which sites you allow cookies for.

The cookiesafe extension is not ported to FF 3 yet, and this problem specifically affects FF 3.

Why? Because the choice to accept or not 3rd party cookies and their associated risks was not available in FF 2, and that is in fact one of the reasons there was a proliferation of cookie handler extensions.

None of which affects my point, that this wasn't necessary until the 3.1.5.1.

Besides the fact I'm perfectly capable of managing cookies for myself, I wonder how this will affect other users. There are bountiful security advice sites out there telling people to set this option in their browsers, spy/adware cleaners that offer to set it for you, or recommend the same. Personal privacy is a big issue for some people, and less sophisticated users will simply never figure this out.

I had the same problem with FF 3.0b5 on a linux system (ubuntu hardy heron).

Accepting third party cookies solved this, but searching for a more secure solution I did the following:

Instead of enabling third party cookies for all, just click the button "exceptions" above that setting, add "diigo.com" and click 'allow'.

This works flawlessly and now you're only accepting diigo cookies, not all third party cookies, which is safer & more secure than the previous suggestion (in sofar you trust diigo).

Don't forget to disable third party cookies.

We are not sure this is caused by Diigo toolar. Can you reproduce it? Could you try diigo toolbar in a new profile and tell us what you observe?

Synchronize locally saved bookmarks between browsers

The toolbar allows saving of bookmarks locally in addition to Diigo and other services. It would be great now, if those locally saved bookmarks got synced in all browsers, that have the toolbar installed, eg. Firefox on desktop and Firefox on laptop. This way, i could have all bookmarks locally available on all browsers that have the toolbar running.

you can do the syncing of local bookmarks with the foxmarks-extension for firefox. it's great.
with diigo and foxmarks I have now always my boomarks at hand. foxmarks even allows you to put your local bookmarks on a site and make them online available if you want to. but I never used that as diigo is the best with handling bookmarks online.

marcel, thanks for the answer. I know the extension you mentioned, but i see no reason to use two extensions to accomplish what one should be able to do. I don't want to sync all my bookmarks across browser, but only the ones i'm sharing or saving onlne in Diigo. So i have no need for Foxmarks but wish that Diigo worked that way...

1. The full "Bookmark" action should have an icon, not only text. I prefer moving it to the bookmarks toolbar, so I don't have to keep the entire Diigo toolbar displayed. There it is much easier to detect as an icon, but I believe this is so also on the original toolbar.

2. Optionalize the menubar dropdwon menu. It is very intrusive.

3. The context menu arrangement is also intrusive. I use FF's Customize Menus so it doesn't bother me much, but it is better as a sub-menu. BTW, they don't show on the top even when checked, for me.

The additions to the site look cool. thanks.

I don't mind the Diigo menu in the menu bar.. but i find it a little odd. Most of it's functions are duplicated elsewhere (toolbar, rightclick) so its not really needed. (though I guess it means i could get rid of the toolbar if i wanted)

However Unread and Recently bookmarked would be much more useful as buttons on th toolbar (similar to the messages button. )
A smart "mark read" button would be cool to help you catch up on unread stuff too.

the rightclick options are at the top for me, and I like them. (though again, making them optional would be polite).
Also, i still can't get the search categories to appear directly on the toolbar.

Other than that, i think its a great improvement. good job

I would like to have access to the Unread bookmarks from the toolbar itself. Is that somehow possible? I don't want to use the menubar (I autohide it).

- the top diigo menu is there mainly for people who wants to hide the whole diigo toolbar -- will be optional
- context menu: there is an option to set diigo items on the top or not. Is this still not working for you, let's us know.

Ok. There seems to be a conflict between the new version Diigo Firefox extension and the Snaplinks extension (which is very useful for opening multiple links in tabs). Ever since I installed the new Diigo (on Firefox 2.0.0.1.3 on Windows XP), when I open links with Snaplinks (by passing over multiple links with the right button held) an annoying right-click Firefox menu pops up and won't go away until I make it go away. This kills the convenience of using Snaplinks. It's definitely a conflict with Diigo. When I disable the Diigo extension, the problem disappears. Do you think you can resolve this? Thanks again!

I don't use Diigo for my personal bookmarks, but I do use it for group bookmarks. The new sidebar is great, but unfortunately I can only see my personal bookmarks. Could an option be added to show the group bookmarks as well?

That would make the sidebar actually useful for me, and would be fantastic!

PS. I tried to search the forum if this had been suggested before, but I received 700+ results with "Group Topics on bookmarks sidebar groups" and I don't see a way to put "bookmarks AND sidebar AND groups" in there??

Hi,

Though Diigo is still working on an Firefox 3 supported toolbar, here's a quick trick to the impatient that allows you to use Diigo toolbar with Firefox 3 beta.

Open new tab and type: about:config
Click on the "I will be careful, I promise" button (deselect the checkbox in here if this message is annoying)
Right click here anywhere and choose New -> Boolean
Type the name as: "extensions.checkUpdateSecurity" (without quotes of course)
In next dialog, choose false.
Now, install the toolbar and voila you'll have it!!

I just downloaded this and it is not working with FF 3.0b3 -- the toolbar installs and has a single button that says "Diigo - Sign In" --- clicking the button does nothing-- I am obviously signed in to Diigo :)

Firefox 3 final will be hopefully released in the first half of 2008. In the mean time, we'll keep our toolbar working with the latest beta release but we do not guarantee that it works with previous ff3 beta releases.

I'm not getting a prompt to login to Twitter with FFb4 and the latest toolbar (3.1.3). I believe there's some bug still in FF3 regarding message windows. On Mac fwiw.

Mac version is a no go, using their default mac native theme, new profile, only thing installed was diigo toolbar. I have a submit button, click, but no prompt for twitter credentials if I wasn't clear.

We have done some testing. Twitter prompts to login correctly in FF3b4/FF2 on Windows, FF2 on Mac OS X but not FF3b4/FF3b5 on Mac. I think this is a firefox bug.

Could you please tell us about the message window bug you mentioned more specifically?

To tell you the truth, I can't remember where I read about it, just had a vague recollection that there were still some UI issues with the mac. Coulda been a dream however. :-D
